  1. an RSL is a back-up not a primary system... you should always pull the second handle... aside from a canopy colapse, What other situations are you thinking of that have not made a decision befor being that low? If I have a problem with the canopy over my head, I will decide if I am going to land it or chop it by 1000 ft (most likely before then)... if I don't have anything out yet it's 1800 ft. If I've decided to land something, and it gets worse after 1000 ft I'll deal with it then, but if there is the possibility of the situation getting worse (torn canopy for exapmle) its most likely gone anyway. 2. I've got around 1600 jumps...jump numbers a approximate and do not include other demos w/ 2-10 jumps on each Manta 288 (.7) 20 jumps Saber 190 (1.0) 100 jumps Saber 170 (1.2) 200 jumps Spectre 150 (1.5) 20 jumps Stiletto 150 (1.5) 800 jumps Crossfire 129 (1.8) 200 Jumps I currently fly the following... Crossfire 119 @ 1.9 w/camera gear 1.8 w/o Velocity 103 @ 2.2 w/camera gear 2.1 w/o Velocity 96 @ 2.25 w/o Camera gear http://www.aerialfusion.com
  3. I'm not looking at my canopy right now, but I think generally if not always, when you have an upper and lower control line configuration (not all canopies do), the separation point is at the deployment setting point... the loop that you put you toggle through is the loop that connects upper and lower... given that I think you would end up cutting the upper to free the line. Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  4. ---What would cause a toggle to become stuck? Packing error... happened to me on about my 15th jump... toggle had been flipped through the line set above the connector linkon the previous jump (student gear jumped by first jump student and not picked up properly)... was not noticed by the packer when the break was set... when I released the breaks, one released, the other came out of the keeper but tightened around the line group... controled the turn with the other toggle and stood up the landing in the peas, although the flair was stange with one toggle and one riser...No big deal on student canopy... 5. I think we are generally on the same side of the issue... In no way am I saying that they ought to be allowed, just that the rules don't say one way or the other... my guess is, based on Sangrio's comments, that the judges won't consider them for the prize contention. Perhaps knowing that from the outset some folks may have chosen their submissions differently. Ultimately the issue rests with the judges and how they feel about it. Note: I have not submitted any frame grabs. Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  6. I have stopped receiving notifications when my posts have been responded to... I have received them in the past, and I regularly check the box to receive them... What's up with dat? http://www.aerialfusion.com
  7. I'm not too worried about the frame grabbers... most of the frame grab pics are obvious, and based on comments in this thread by one of the judges, it seems they will be looking at that while judging. While it may not be against the rules, it seems those entries will be at a disadvantage. Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  8. ---3rd place points tie (5 points) but technical merit going to Eric Boyd, Josh Hill, and (god I am sorry I don't remember his name) Wasn't my team... we did not place (1 point back )... The team was EZ, David Armstrong, and "(god I am sorry I don't remember his name)" (but he did a great job for 116 jumps). Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  9. Is it a 27 or 21 cell (or something else for that matter)? http://www.aerialfusion.com
  10. ---in my mind that’s digital processing and shouldn't be allowed. What about digital still cameras? And at some point, unless you do your own developing, most pictures are processed (color correction mostly) by a computer, and you almost always have to make some corrections when you scan a photo... Having said that, I agree grabs don't seem to meet the intent of the contest... anyone that shoots reasonable video can find that one frame that is good... catching that "moment in time" on film (traditional or digital) is more of a challenge... Maybe we give the people that submitted grabs the opportunity to resubmit non-grabs? Josh btw, thanks for the shots this weekend, should have them up on the webpage later this week. http://www.aerialfusion.com

---Does she have boobs just the way we like them (one on the left and one on the right)? --- I think I have them on video, now if I could just find that tape... http://www.aerialfusion.com
  18. for the record, I am just glad to see it in print... would have been nice on the cover, but hey, photo finish ain't too shabby. I have not inquired as to why it did not make a cover, like I said just glad to see it in the mag. Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  19. I never said anything about Racers specifically, although they do come to mind when one talks about velcro, put tuck tabs on one and I might consider jumping one again, and I never said a G3 flap may not come out, just that I had never seen one... New velcro works fine, but even moderately worn velcro has a good chance of not sticking while verticle if it is not diligently seated, and the velcro on riser covers are subjected to a lot of force when they open... Yes, worn tuck tabs will come out, worn velcro will not stick... velcro wears out faster than tuck tabs (in my experiance) and constantly replacing it is not what I want to spend time and money on... If you go to one of the full time professional coaches, one of the first things they will talk to you about is freefly friendly gear... most if not all are very warey of any velcro flap closures. I'm glad you have not had any issue with your Racer, but talk to someone who has had a flap open and lines come out and get tangled on something... we both know one, and he won't jump a velcro flaps anymore.... Bottom line is, if you are going to jump out of an airplane, you need to be as sure as you can be that everything is going to stay closed until you open it... I personnaly have more confidence in my Mirage(s) (and even my Javelin for that matter) than I do in anything with velcro. Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  20. I've jumped Mirage and Javelin... my personal preference is the Mirage. All the flaps stay where you put them until the container is opened. The Javelin I had stayed closed too, but I have seen some where the riser covers came open during freefall, don't think I've ever seen a G3 do that. I can't speak to the Vector, I ave not had any experiance with them. Skip anything held closed (or not) with velcro! Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  21. I have been told by several riggers (after I went for a swim in the DZ pond) that I could safely continue jumping the rig for the rest of the weekend, and should open it up at the end of jumping to let it dry out unpacked... made 4 or 5 more runs at the pond that weekend (staying dry on each) then opened the reserve to dry. btw... a wet main makes a cool cloud of mist when it opens!!! Peace Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  22. The home system... Mac G4 Dual 450; 1.5G Ram; 70G Storage The Road system... Mac iBook 500; 640mb Ram; 20G Storage (plus a 60G Firewire drive) Premier 6.01 on both... will most likely migrate to Final Cut Pro 3 due to OS X (Premier does not work with that OS)... I also use Photoshop, After Effects, and DVD Studio Pro to output to DVD. For simple passthrough editing I use a Panasonic AVE-3 mixer and Videonics Titlemaker 3000 Peace Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
  23. Mine has a remote release... of course you have to modify it because it is too short... would rather do that than have to crack open a $$$$ camera. http://www.aerialfusion.com
  24. not 100% sure on the resolution, but my understanding is that you should stay as close to the source footage's resolution so there is less rendering the computer needs to do to change it... if you are using a miniDV camera that is 720x480... this is good for VHS output as well... frame rate for VHS should be 29.97 fps for US viewing. http://www.aerialfusion.com
  25. Just curious... who else out there is jumping a digital still? If so, what kind and what has your experience been with it? I jump an Olympus E-20 and have been very pleased with the results, the only exception being the number of shots you can take during a jump. Peace Josh http://www.aerialfusion.com
