Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. My current take on our friendly debate (US gun owner vs UK jumpers) can be aided by a better definition of this, IMO: 1) Are you allowed to defend yourself (and property)? 2) If so, under what constraints? Cheers
-
What's even worse is the UK courts are the ones that decide how much of a victim they are. Which, in my simple terms, works out to be, "Are you hurt? How much? That's not too bad. Go on home then". It's the criminal that gets the consideration over there. I don't know this with certainty, but I would imagine the criminal gets to go into some sort of court mandated treatment program, that does two things: 1) Keeps these programs going, 2) Keep the people in those programs employed. I read an interesting article in, I believe, the Wall Street Journal recently on the UK criminal court system. Criminals basically commit 10 crimes before they're caught. Then, they repeat this cycle another 10 times before they're sentenced to jail time. The stories that come out of the UK regarding citizens rights to defend themselves and property are staggering. Granted, there are something like 60 million people living in a country the size of one of our large states. They may be of the mind that for the overall population the risks of these incidents are worth what ever costs are perceived to letting the citizenry defend themselves. We are all engines of karma

You've got to be kidding me? They didn't give it back? I know several decent County cops. PM me some more info, and I'll talk to them about it. We are all engines of karma

I took my kids to see it. There's cursing (bitch, dickhead), the one scene AggieDave said (that went on for a full minute?), and other times where I wasn't comfortable. If I had to do over again, I'm not sure I would. BTW - my kids are 10, 8, and 5. It was my wife's idea to take them, since her company was providing a free screening. We are all engines of karma

I looked into getting a pistol permit here (target, not carry). They make it almost impossible. First off, you have to find 4 licensed gun holders who are willing to sign for you, and none of them can be police or retired police. Completely arbitrary. Then, you have to take a 6 month safety course. Then you have to wait 6 months for them to approve the license. Also, if you have egress from your house then you're supposed to use it when threatened. Mind boggling. The county executive is a raging liberal asshole, and there is no term limit to his slot. My town is the only Republican town in Westchester. Andy Spano has just closed all other homeless shelters in Westchester and consolidated them in my town. Know what lives in homeless shelters? Level III sex offenders (...i.e., those who are going to repeat). Be New York State law, all sex offenders must be posted on a state web site. But Spano says the homeless right to privacy vetos that requirement. Check out this website: http://www.mppdny.com/press/sex_offenders.htm We are all engines of karma

Just a note to all on this thread. jakee lives in the UK where they're not allowed to own guns or defend themselves. Their culture is very different from our own, and we should be thankful for it. We are all engines of karma

I live in Westchester county, New York (a little north of NYC). You'd go to jail here if you did that. There was an incident here recently where a Navy guy was at home visiting his mom. His mom had just won a large amount of money through a local pool at her pub. A well known thief/junkie broke into her house to steal it. The Navy guy shot him dead _IN_ the house. The NYC DA wanted to prosecute the _NAVY_ guy. We are all engines of karma

I worked at a building complex in New Jersey for several years. There was an 50'x50' enclosed area that was used by the same duck every year for her nest. Every year, once the ducklings were hatched and around, crows would come in and eat them. We are all engines of karma

I went through this a long time ago. I would always watch the pilot chute to make sure it didn't go into my burble. As a result, I had alot of problems with C4 popping out of place. You should be able to tell if your canopy is deploying properly just be the feel of things. Also, you may want to try neck exercises. We are all engines of karma
