Jumping any NPS territory in WV in the general vicinity of Bridge Day is not really a great idea. The NPS don't like us... much as we may hate to acknowledge that. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Right on Russel! Has anybody given you any good ideas for getting the other objects yet? I'm sure we could come up with something if we all put our heads together. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Let's see... Go downstairs into the kitchen and fetch some lettuce, catnip, some meat tenderizer and a corkscrew. I then hit the garage and grab some 10-W40 motor oil, a mechanic's light, a roto rooter and my fishing pole. On the way upstairs I make sure to swing by my closet and grab my wind sock & leather-studded biohazard suit (had to get that one special-order). Grab my kazoo out of the nightstand drawer and I'm good to go! - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Just last Friday a co-worker was killed when a car ran an intersection and t-boned her car. Her teenage daughter was also killed. Her younger son (barely) survived. You just never know... - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Albums/CDs That Have Transformed You & Your Musical Tastes?
Zennie replied to Zennie's topic in The Bonfire
"Pop" may have been a poor choice of words. What I meant was that basically those groups were sort of teenage metal-head standard fare groups. Metallica, and all the other thrash/hardcore groups, were still somewhat underground at that point. I saw Metallica at a late 80s "Monsters of Rock" show. It was like Kingdom Come, Metallica, Dokken, Scorpions & Van Hagar. Metallica destroyed all of them (big surprise there). - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon -

Absolutely agree. But not all nice guys are jello-spined suckups either. God knows I'm not. I don't expect anything from anyone. And I don't act the way I do toward people because I expect something in return. I try to treat people, guys and girls alike, with kindness and respect because that's a cornerstone of my belief system. In any event, for me sex is part of a relationship, not some benefit/reward system. Sure there are women I'm attracted to, but I don't go into it with sex being at the forefront of my mind. At this point in my life I'm fine with who I am & the way things are. When a relationship is meant to happen, it will. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Probably because nice guys don't get laid. And I'm speaking from personal experience on that one. My problem is I can't bring myself to be an asshole or treat someone like crap. Thus, I'm "friend" of everybody and "boyfriend" of none. My personal take is that the "friend" will always be there, but the "player" may or may not be. So women go for the "player". And at which point I hear nothing but how their latest boyfriend treats them like crap. Makes me wonder sometimes... - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

Albums/CDs That Have Transformed You & Your Musical Tastes?
Zennie replied to Zennie's topic in The Bonfire
Borrowing a bit from Val's thread on influential books, what CDs/Albums transformed you & your musical tastes. There were a few significant ones for me.... AC/DC: If You Want Blood, You Got It This was the first album I ever bought. I'd heard about AC/DC from friends and decided to buy one of their albums to see what they were all about. I was absolutely blown away. Thus began my foray into the heavy metal realm. Led Zeppelin: Physical Graffiti When I first heard this album, I became a Led-head for the next several years. I was already a pot-head by this time, so maybe that had something to do with it. Metallica: Master of Puppets Up until this time, my perception of metal was pretty much of the "pop" variety.... Zeppelin, Maiden, Priest, Ozzy. I read a review of "Master" in Rolling Stone and they gave it 5 stars so I figured I'd buy it and see what all the fuss was about. My reaction was pretty much holy... fucking... shit... That album transformed my whole perception of what "heavy" truly meant. Nirvana: Nevermind By the time Nirvana rolled around I was getting pretty bored with hard rock. Nobody was really innovating and nothing was really hitting me deep inside. I'd heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the radio and liked it, but when I listened to the whole CD, I can't describe it... I FELT it. The frustration, the pain, the cynicism. I was turned onto grunge/hardcore in a big way. Since "Nevermind", I can't say I've heard anything that has really transformed me. I listen to a lot of different stuff and get on kicks with certain bands & styles, but none have really made me think "THIS is the shit". - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon -
I've read an awful lot of books that augmented my thinking, but probably if I were to name one book that transformed me, it would have to be Huston Smith's, "The World's Religions". I came across that book at a time in my life where I was questioning a lot of things. I wiped my spritual slate clean, so to speak, and read that book. At that point I realized that my beliefs, philosophy and temperament had far more in common with the Eastern faiths... particularly Buddhism... than with the Western ones. Thomas Paine's "The Age of Reason" is one of the most brilliant (and scathing) commentaries on mainstream Christianity that I've ever read. Another good one is Bishop John Shelby Spong's "Rescuing The Bible From Fundamentalism". - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

A tension knot is essentially when one line gets caught into a loop of another line. When the lines gain tension, that entanglement is locked in. The best way to avoid them is to, oddly enough, maintain tension on your lines throughout the packjob to keep everything where it should be. Walking down your lines to remove subtle twists will also help minimize the risk of the problem. As far as slider-gates go... only Vertigo makes sliders with slider-gates, so most likely the reason you don't see them in more widespread use is that folks don't modify their (non-Vertigo) sliders to include a slider-gate. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
