  5. 1) Mach Reflections Def:Mach reflection (NASA Thesaurus) The reflection of a shock wave from a rigid wall in which the shock strength of the reflected wave and the angle of reflection both have the smaller of the two values theoretically possible. 2) Vernal Parachute Technologies (VPT) Definition of vernier engine (NASA Thesaurus / NASA SP-7, 1965) A rocket engine of small thrust used primarily to obtain a fine adjustment in the velocity and trajectory of a rocket vehicle just after the thrust cutoff of the last sustainer engine, and used secondarily to add thrust to a booster or sustainer engine. Also called vernier rocket. 3) Virtual Gravity Systems definition virtual gravity (NASA SP-7, 1965) The force of gravity on an atmospheric parcel, reduced by centrifugal force due to the motion of the parcel relative to the earth. The virtual gravity g* is g*= where g is the magnitude of the acceleration of gravity; V is the parcel speed; a is the earth's radius; and n is the component of the earth's angular velocity vector normal to the motion of the parcel. For reasonable atmospheric values, the correction terms are of the order of 0.01 percent of the magnitude of gravity. The identity of g* and g is implied by the assumption of hydrostatic equilibrium

  14. ------------------------------------ In Reply To made a few jumps there in the past, late 80s/early 90s. W some guy named Jim would fly us in his Beach -18. ------------------------------------- Wouldn't happen to have been Jim Brewer flying "Island Aire" would it? ------------------------------------- Sure was Jim Brewer now that you mention the name. Dont know if it was "Island Aire" or not. one thing I do remember was when I was last out and we were doing a 12 way formation load with the 182, the craft stalled and I was floating in the plane...several feet from the door,
  15. made a few jumps there in the past, late 80s/early 90s. W A Guy named Carlos operated the Dz. Had a really ragged red 182 (hi carlos), some guy named Jim would fly us in his Beach -18. Also, Mullins would sometimes bring in his Helio Stalion Jumped casually with these folks there: Mark Herndon Keith Plumber Keith Hedrich Charlie Bonner Duck Cindy Clark Bonnie xxxx (now Bonnie Pappas) Tom Pappas Steve xxxx 144 way Rod xxx maybe John Combs and the rest I forgot. Any of these poople still kickin??
  16. Made my first jump under a round in 1983. is that 23 yrs in the sport?? maybe, maybe not ,,,,i took 10 years off, "completely"...and made very few from 90-95. 827 total now. Jump proficiency to me is measured in how many jumps a person has made in the shortest period of time. a person that makes 1000/yr is far more "tuned" than someone thats made 1000/last 20 yrs. The more years a person jumps per number of jumps...means the less proficient. the following my be an indicator of what u want to know. Years in sport Years since first Jump Years since last jump (then there is somethinkg called freefall time) and the Klutz factor Im with Wendy (isnt she a Texan too??)
  17. its eaxactly like this on I10 in Katy tx!
  18. Im gonna vote on the person that i've always depended on and trusted : the guy that pulled me through my first and last jump, the Dude that never failed me when things were down, The person that picked me up, when the dive went wrong, the guy that congratulated me when things went well, the guy that came up for the Cash, when cash was low. The guy thats i have posted , on my office wall ( 8x10) Me (i forgot to mention the guy that came in second: Tom Pirus, for giving me a ride when hitchhiking to the Nationals in OK in the 80's, when the temps were over 100F)
  19. do a neked jump anyway, weather its ur 100th or 101st. ...the wind blowing in special places is "special" Wear ur swim suit or ur victorias secret up in the plane...then just before you get out.....u can get "neked". after u land, u can use ur canopy as a "robe" ive only made a couple...but that "special" feeling of wind blowing everyplace will never be forgotten. blushing as i type this Matt
  20. log em.... its not misleading if u put what kind of jump it was.
