Pilot chute uncocked, repack it in the plane?
Yossarian replied to jheadley's topic in Safety and Training
surely to turn off an expert cypress on most rigs youd have to take the rig off? dont think id be happy doing that -
Does anyone ever pull their reserve before repack?
Yossarian replied to Tenshi's topic in Safety and Training
what does it do? is it an anti-tamper thing? -

whats this lead seal thing? and how is a reserve packed? anyone got a link to some pics? -
how so?
-
nope, says it doesnt recognise it, never mind
-
how do you get this to work?

but then theres the issue of cheating the airline and doing it quite blatantly, blatantly enough to be caught almost... and ryanair charge a fortune for excess baggage. going with 35 other people though so i suppose i could distribute the individual weights
-
thats a cracking idea, just tried on my mums aerobics weights with a rig, perfect fit, adjustable sand weights up to 10lbs, perfect! now to get them to spain without the exceeding the baggage allowance, was suggested i just wear them so they're not weighed, but if i get stopped at the x-ray machine i realised what it would look like - id probably be shot on the spot! would that count as a skydiving fatality? edit; grammar

well since i started uni and money became pretty equally split between beer and jumping, food tends to be a kebab on the way home from the former, which usually comes after the latter, need more pies! how much weight can you get in a belt then? whats the normal amount? and how about cost? need to work out how many pints i need to sacrifice..

i have a problem with FS in that i float alot, i was once clocked at 105mph with a protrack with a mammoth arch on and skintight jumpsuit (with the material best for those in my position). with a hard arch on i can just keep up with others, but theyre in max slowfall and its hard for me to manouvre without floating up. i know alot of this has to do with my body position, im only new and i need to improve it obviously, but weight would help and has been suggested to me by just about everyone ive jumped with. im 11st, 6'4" and lanky as hell. i tried weight once and it really helped. anyway, my question... were i to purchase a weight belt, how do you estimate how much you need? or is it just trial and error? a friend of mine has just bought one he says i can borrow so i suppose i could work it out now but any help here is appreciated.

High altitude records - no, not the "usual" question
Yossarian replied to Orange1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
apparently kittingers jump was not sanctioned and therefore not recognised by the FAI, and the russian one was some guy from 123,000ft who had a premature on exit, either freezing to death or running out of oxygen before he hit the ground. Piantanida never jumped out of the balloon, the capsule was released from the balloon at 53,000ft and parachuted down with him inside it. -
how did the bridle melt bits of her rig? was it friction between the bridle and her? ive heard of lines and canopy heating up in flight through friction with the air but not the bridle. i possibly misunderstood the original comment though...
-
u only make about 20jumps with spring loaded mains though, and id hope you would be able to get out of that habit before you started jumping a high performance canopy

why is the cutaway handle a pad rather than a d-ring like the reserve? just wondered why theyre different, and as some people then get a pad for their reserve to replace the d-ring, do other people do it the other way around? as in replace the cutaway pad with a d-ring?

Is it "funny" to push somebody out of the door?
Yossarian replied to The111's topic in Safety and Training
surely ff goin first is better? they fall faster, there for getting out the way, and as they are vertical they present more to the relative wind so are more affected by it, and as u run into wind then that means they are getting pushed further away? ive never heard a good argument for ff going after rw -
how come its the bridle that makes a difference, wouldnt it be the strength of the spring and hence its ability to fire itself out of any burble?
-
when i was going through raps and used a rig with a spring loaded PC i used to get awful hesitation, the video of my half-series shows it lasting a full 4 seconds (and yes i was wriggling and moving my shoulders around considerably to get rid of it, even felt it smacking my helmet), what i was wondering was that as reserves are spring loaded PC extracted, can they suffer from the same problem? ive never heard anything about this before so there must be an answer ive just never heard it

Perfectly Good Airplane Crap
Yossarian replied to Shadowplay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
did you know more people die playing golf every year than skydiving? - not sure if its true or not but sounds about right. and more people die (apparently) from toilet seat related incidents in the US every year than die from skydiving in europe. once again from a potentially dodgy source (old issue of FHM i think) but still... makes them chuckle if nothing else -
DUTY? / importing canopy from US to EU
Yossarian replied to mostwanted's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
so what if you just picked it up then told them you'd brought it with you from your country of origin if they ask if you need to declare it? send all the invoices and manuals and stuff home in the post? -
had a very alarming jump today, luckily ending well (Ish,got dragged into a hedge but thats another story) i was belly to earth when i felt my leg strap flapping on my leg, and it was attached by a clip (not just a step in) and i expected the worst and thought it had come undone, i went on my back and tried to tighten it (turns out didnt need to, it was just the excess that had escaped), my solution at pull time was to grab right shoulder strap with my left hand in case it had actually come away. luckily it was fine, but my question is what would you do if a leg strap came off? would it cause you to fall out of the harness, cause steering problems if you didnt? (in know a solution is to not use a rig with clips but it was hire kit)
-
i was reading one of those 'strangest death' books once and it talked about a glider that basically got pulled apart in a thunderstorm, the two pilots bailed out and immediately opened their escape rigs and basically froze to death in the cloud they were kept up there so long before their canopies were pulled to rags by the storm and they fell out the bottom
-
plus if you dont pull your reserve and rely on the rsl, one day when u buy your own or use a hire rig that might not have one your muscle memory might cause you to not pull the reserve fast enough, just pull the thing, it certainly wont do any harm
-
is it just me or are some of these questions not actually that stupid? for someone who knows nothing about skydiving questions like 'is swimming for forward movement' and 'do you strap a snowboard to your feet' among others are pretty reasonable assumptions for a whuffo (whats the origin of this word by the way? hear it alot and dont know where it comes from). as far as grips on suits, i can easily imagine why people would think they were for stability
-
what about a total mal? you could get tangled up in it really easy couldnt you?
-
is it true that the old belly mounted reserves didnt have a pilot chute and you actually had to grab the thing and throw it out? sounds like id take my chances with a linover...
