Very true, but the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church continues to NOT effectively deal with the subject. Only if a priest fondles little boys more than ONCE will they think of defrocking him. You have got to be kidding me. Is once not enough? Have they not learned that when they catch him once, transferring him to another area just spreads the problem? What they effectively have said is that once or twice is fine, but when it is "serial" will they consider doing something more drastic........ It disgusts me beyond belief. Clay, I wasn't trying to lay blame. In the end a US plane dropped a bomb on Canadian troops. I brought up the incident to indicate that it is possible to disagree with an act yet support those acting it out. I am sure that the continued massive under-funding of the Canadian militairy plays a role in this accident as well. Well said Lisa, and I completely agree. The Canadian people are currently going through a rough time, most likely due to a mistake made by the US military. It still doesn't mean that we hate the soldiers, or do not stand by their side. Some of us may disagree with how some wars are fought, or the decisions made by the leaders of States and militairy, but those feelings do not filter down to the soldier in the field One can disagree with an act, yet respect and encourage those acting it out. I did not say there was a parallel. I was wondering if in the case of the Infidel Exterminator you would still agree with the non-seperation of church and state. If you would not, then where do you draw the line. How much interaction then should there be? Second, I was trying to indicate how dangerous the combination of church and state can be. no, I am not just trolling for an argument. I am trying to get across that we have a tendency to condemn the actions of other people and then go and do it ourselves.. We condemn Muslim extremists killing civillians, yet when the coalition forces (yes the candians as well, I am not only speaking of the USA) kill civilians it is just a side effect. If someone speaks up about it, then they are called bleeding heart liberals. I am trying to get across that a combination of religion and state, in my opinion, is a major factor in why we are currently killing people around the world. I am trying to get across that it, in my mind, whatever is stated in whatever version of the bible is based on an old society that has since evolved. Hence the stories are open to interpretation. On top of that, there are many conflicting stories in the bible, chosing which one applies is once again open to interpretation. And I was trying to say that possibly to some people the President of the United States might be an extremist and the leader of a very very dominating power, hellbent on ensuring that the whole world thinks like them. That maybe sometimes we have to step back, really think about things and try not to make the same mistakes too many times. Try to make sure that we do not do what we accuse other people of doing. Mmmmmm, I think there is something like that in the Bible. Do not onto others etc etc. I wonder how that works with a really religious, christian person (Busch) and, say the death penalty for murder.......(Texas) In the end an extremist is only an extremist in the mind of those who strongly disagree with him. I agree with you completely on that. To me, it is that assumption that would be called faith in its most basic form. I could not agree with you more on that. It is unfortunate that so many people will identify a weak point, hammer it to death and call it a discussion or argument. (This statement is certainly not directed to anyone in particular. It is just an over generalized statement of belief.) That is exactly what I was trying to say. In the end it all boils down to that basic belief. Some will agree with it, some will not. Thanks. Just in case there is any misunderstanding, I am not trying to prove or disprove the merits of a belief, nor am I even trying to best anyone in this argument, since, to me, it all boils down to whether or not you agree with that basic belief outlined before.
