  1. So, if I wanted two wives in the US could I? If a woman wanted two husbands, could she? If two lesbians wanted to get married, could they? If two gay guys, in a loving long term relationship wanted to adopt a child, could they? If a 14 year old roman catholic wanted to do the communion properly and have some wine, could he/she? Your post is a load of crock. People in America (or canada for that matter) aren't free to be who they want to be. Aren't free to adopt any culture they want. They are free to follow the rules and laws of the US, not their culture. "Entirely up to your personal choice" is not even close to being true. You just are comfortable with the restrictions of the society you live in.
  2. So you have no problem with them presuming you are a thief when it comes to credit cards, but you don't like it when they presume you are a thief when it comes to electronics?
  3. So you think they are doing this only to check if the customer is stealing? There might be more to it you know? It might actually serve to check up on other people to keep the costs down for you the consumer....ever thought about that? Guess not, most people are too busy screaming: ME, ME, ME, ME and I know MY rights.
  4. How is showing your receipt equivalent to a search of your person? How is showing your receipt equivalent to getting fucked in the ass? hard to have a discussion with some one when they display an attitude like that.
  5. "improperly" is somewhat subjective don't you think? Many Europeans laugh at North Americans for their puritanical stance on women and children on the beach. I still chuckle when I see a 1 year old girl watching a bikini. In most European countries that same girl walks around in shorts if she isn't buck naked. And funny enough, the rest of the population is able to control themselves when they see it.
  6. And to keep their shrinkage to a minimum, allowing them to lower the pricing on their products. Funny how people want their "rights" to lower pricing, but don't want to help the retailers deliver that lower pricing.
  7. funny enough, lingerie stores in predominantly muslim nation do extremely well. Just because they done't hang there thong out of their pants (usually cause the ass is too fat for the jeans) doesn't mean they don't spend quite a bit on lingerie. But then, not all muslims are like the ones you see on Fox news.....I know, that's quite a shocker for many.....
  8. Actually, you have absolutely no right to shop there. You are there by implied invitation, one that can be revoked at any time.
  9. The American economy (and the Candian one as well) is addicted to low price retailers. To keep the costs low, large boxes are built, with fewer staff, centralized check outs with as much merchandise on the floor as possible, and more visible/intrusive security systems. Don't like it, maybe you should think about spending some more money and not shopping at big box/discount retailers. Everything you can buy at Circuit City or Best Buy or Costco you can buy in more intimate specialty stores where they will happily carry your merchandise to your car, or even deliver it to your home for free. No hassles with showing receipts or anything. You just have to pay a bit more.....
  10. I doubt that. Up here in Canada Loss Prevention needs to see selection, concealement and removal. They also need continuity from one stage to the next and cannot lose sight of the suspect for the (citizens) arrest to be valid. (as a side note, the courts have not yet established if keeping surveillance on camera is enough to maintain continuity) Once arrested by a citizen (or security officer, really the same thing) they can use reasonable force to control the suspect waiting for the Police to show up. This includes handcuffs and holding cells. It is much harder to prove a theft is the suspect has not actually left the store, since in many cases they can claim that they were still intending to pay for it. I am assuming (which can be totally wrong) that most US states would be relatively similar. Citizens (which would include all security officers) cannot detain, but they can arrest if they have witnessed the crime. Police officers can detain and can make arrests based on suspicion/probably cause. The systems in place in stores like Costco and Best Buy/Circuit City are much more geared towards prevention than actually catching theft. For the person who made the comment that they should watch the cameras and gave Vegas as an example: You may want to give some thought to some relatively simple economics.....
  11. Yup, but you need the receipt to show that he actually handed over the money. On top of that big box stores like circuit city have pay registers through out the store and not just in one centralized area. I don't understand what the issue is with showing your receipt if asked? Don't like it, don't shop there.
  12. and subsequently got banned....makes you wonder doesn't it :-)
  13. you going to steal everybodies stuff there too?
  14. Really? Never heard that, either in English or in any of quite a few other european languages. And I lived there for 24 years so you'd think I would have heard that at least once....

  18. Is the job you can get dependant on the level you are on?
  19. no pet of mine would ever be worth that kind of money
  20. how do you pick a fight with some one?
  21. To me this is the equivalent of playing games. When people start dating they should do what comes naturally for both of them. All these rules, and deliberate waiting just amount to playing games. I seriously doubt that the timing of sex has anyting to do with whether or not it turns into a meaningful relationship. Personally if I get the sense that my partner is deliberately holding off on having sex for no other reasons than to satisfy a rule, it is time to move on.
