Coyotes kill woman on hike in Canadian park
SkyDekker replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
had some wild boar not too long ago. Very tasty, but also relatively fatty. No, didn't hunt for it, bought it at the Farmer's Market in Ottawa. -
Some of the stuff your incredibly arrogant ugly ass queen has done, is very, what was that word again, imperialistic, and I don't see you whinning about it? Hell, the mess in the middle east still has British signatures all over it. Pakistan, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, Sudan, etc, etc. The queen is the head of state, not the head of government. Big difference, yet not big enough for you to grasp....what does that say?

About 7 years ago I was on my way to pick up my then girlfriend at her apartment. I knew I had to let a real stinky one go, so when the door closed and the levator started the trip from the ground floor to the 6th floor, I figured I was safe to let one rip. I mean who gets on an elevator in an apartment above the ground floor to go up further. I let it rip and it stripped the inside of the elevator to bare steel. Of course, with my luck, the elevator stops and a couple gets in. The girl takes about one whiff and starts dry heaving and gagging.... Thankfully the elevator got to my floor and I could get the hell out of there.....

Agreed, the general thought would be that if you ban guns, over time the availability would decline. I'm not sure there is enough history yet to either prove or disprove that theory. I agree. Though I also believe that it is even better never to face an armed opponent. I did, but it is comparing apples to oranges. You are saying that we shouldn't ban a tool, cause we also shouldn't ban actions. Not debating the numbers, but what we don't know is how many of those suicides or drug related gun deaths would have taken place if guns were not as readily available. I for one do not believe that every suicide would have taken place, if the tool to do it was not as readily available. I can certainly agree with all those points. But, that is certainly not the exclusive list of options.

Absolutely. Hence average was in parenthesis, to indicate there really wouldn't be much average about such a person. The average related to skill with either weapon as opposed to general mindset. Otherwise it would just get rambo responses. So, logic does dictate that if you reduce the access to, or availability of the most usefull tool, result should change. Specially for the US the challenge is, how to reduce that availability to the best tool, to try and reduce some of the deaths related to it. (As a side note, the other examples you brought forward all relate to an action and not a tool) The other side of the argument obviously is, that the proportionate high number of deaths is just the price to pay for the 2nd amendmend. I see that as the juggling act.

Interesting point, can you elaborate more on that? Actually forgot to put a question mark at the end of that sentence, since it was meant as more of a question.

Senators turn back ID requirement for immigrant healthcare
SkyDekker replied to bodypilot90's topic in Speakers Corner
There is a way around this (which of course is open to loopholes as well). My old style health card for Ontario does not have a picture on it, just a number. To get it, I had to prove at one point that I had a right to it. When I present it, I am not asked for any other ID. This off course also means that anybody with my health card could pretend to be me and get health care. The new style health cards in Ontario do have your picture on it (and require renewal for a fee every 5 years) -
Ron, I completely agree with you. They are tools, in many cases very effective tools. I would see the purpose of a gun ban not being the elimination of crime. I wouldn't even qualify it as a reduction of crime. I would only see it as an attempt to reduce deaths. I would assume we could all agree that the "average" person walking into a crowd with a gun will likely kill more people than the "average" person walking into a crowd with a knife. (Now try to keep in mind that this for me is a hypothetical discussion, I could care less about gun ownership in the US)

I find that rambo responses leave little to discuss.

Thank you Wendy, I have been trying to get the same across for a long time, you do it alot more eloquent.

I like that one. Spoons are for eating. Guns are for shooting. take away all the spoons, people will still eat. take away all the guns, people will still.....shoot?

Amtrak train passengers: Guns in checked luggage?
SkyDekker replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
You'll have to elaborate on that one, since I am not sure what the point is you are trying to make. -
Amtrak train passengers: Guns in checked luggage?

Cause I like expanding my horizons beyond where I live, am very much the opposite of the average North American that way. -

If its equivalent to just a burning candle and not a fire, why get so worked up about it? -
Amtrak train passengers: Guns in checked luggage?
SkyDekker replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Check out California Zypher Railcar. But that is completely off topic. The issue I brought up was that an Amtrak train is not a public place and has restrcited access, whether or not you guys get to carry your guns on there.....I really don't care. -

Funny, that same limited commodity works in many other countries quite succesfully. Maybe Americans just feel to entitled and are too lazy to take a couple of steps. -

You can easily hitch your rail car to an Amtrak train. Actually done quite frequently. -
That just means the average woman in the US is obese. Just came back from Switserland a couple of weeks ago, after not having been in Europe for a couple of years. Had totally forgotten that what we call skinny in North America is considered fat in Europe.

You are right, would make perfect sense to allow any visitor to a prison to be armed. On a different note, you obviously feel very strongly about this and feel like the government is taking rights away from you. Isn't this exactly what the 2nd amendmend is for? Isn't this exactly what the 2nd amendmend is supposed to prevent? -
Amtrak train passengers: Guns in checked luggage?
SkyDekker replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Just cause both terms have public in them, does not make them the same. Oh I do, carry them. I have said before that I believe that based on the 2nd amendmend you guys should have access to every weapon that is available on the world market. I also believe that companies have a right to restrict what happens on their property, even publicly funded companies. -
Amtrak train passengers: Guns in checked luggage?
SkyDekker replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Ron you still have to show how public transportation = public place. Would you consider a Greyhound bus to be public? You don't think Greyhound as a company has rights to restrict what they allow on their busses? By the way, I could care less if Amtrak allows you to check your luggage or lets you carry it on the train, doesn't effect me. However, if you do not see a difference between some one walking down the street or sitting on a train, then it is truly impossible to have a decent discussion with you. -
Amtrak train passengers: Guns in checked luggage?
SkyDekker replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Ummm, no. For your argument to be complete you would have to show how public transportation = public place. Keep in mind there are many public transportation companies that are fully private companies. -
In my opinioin it depends on the job. I manage a budget in the millions. if I cannot manage my household budget, it can be assumed I also cannot handle a budget that is a couple of orders in magnitude bigger.
