    please find a quote of the 2nd amendmend which includes the words self-defence. If they specifically intended that, why would they not have mentioned that specifically. They do mention protection against the government specifically. prove that he specifically meant against self-preservation and protection of those three rights from another individual and not the government. Exactly, the individual has a choice. Like you have a choice not to work for your employer, cause he does not allowe guns. Are you have the choice not to go to a mall that does not allow guns. You also have the choice not to send your kids to a school which doesn't allow guns. What is wrong with those choices?

    Sure we can, just provide some credible eveidence related to causation and correlation. You may want to look at income levels and social status and relate that to murder. You might find some stronger links.

    Ron, what does that have to do with anything? Please point out in the 2nd Amendmend where it states that guns should be allowed for home defence. pretty sure the wording is about protecting against the government, not the local crack dealer. So, now that you have agreed that the 2nd amendmend has limits, outside of the limits on the mentally ill and convicted criminals, all you end up bickering about is what those limits are.

    What crop would you propose they farmers start growing in stead of poppies for opium? What crop would give them the same yield? On tourism, do you have any suggestions on sites or experiences that would make Afghanistan stand out from other tourist destinations? Who is going to pay for the education for all? Who exactly is the threat in your opinion, and how do you propose to remove it completely? How would you propose we deal with hundreds of years of tribal existence, without a strong central government and inter-tribe struggles? Let's have that contribution from you.....

    Such a useless comment. I don't understand how people propose that everybody should be able to carry firearms anywhere, yet the military should be exempt. Since you, spectre, are such an expert. Why not try and explain it without top secret remarks, innuendo etc.

    So military students should not carry during training, but civilian students should. Somehow this doesn't make sense to me. In the US, sure, isn't that what your 2nd amendmend is all about?

    That's assuming that political and electronic freedom is what we should be striving for. I'm not saying it isn't, but that is a big assumption to make. "Total" capitalism and "total" communism have proven not to work, for me the jury is out on Socialism. I'm personally more of a conservative, but believe certain controls need to be in place. Some might see controls as a wall in the way of total freedom. Some walls maybe should not come down.

    I would just expect you to be just as vocal about it on military installations. Specially after this shooting, which obviously could have been avoided if military personnel were allowed to carry their personal firearms. Show me where *I* said *you* said that, or admit I didn't. Do you believe an Army cadet should be allowed to carry his personal firearm during basic training?

I like Ben & Jerry ice cream Funny thing is, you have been a very strong voice on these boards against gun free zones. Why is it that you are not strongly condemning the military for making bases gun free zones? Most I have seen in this thread is pro gun people making excuses as to why the military should not be allowed to carry personal weapons. (I figured I would define that for you again, maybe that will stop you from changing the subject again...) Not a big fan of McDonals, really prefer Wendy's. In my opinion, if you are going to change gun-free zones, it would make sense to start in an area where most people are highly trained and go from there. probably makes more sense than starting at a university. Don't you agree?

    Same reason the general public should be armed in your opinion. Why would they be excluded from being allowed to carry personal fire arms? Why does the military not allow its member's to carry personal fire arms?

    Except that the theory provides that if everybody is armed, a shooter would not be able to do too much damage. One would think that if you believed in that theory, having many highly trained armed people around, would make a base even more secure. Warped, if a gun gets in the way of a soldier's job, how does it not get in the way of any civilian's job?

    The bigger questions is, if the military doesn't trust its well trained members to carry fire arms, why should we trust university students to carry on campus?
