  1. That whole argument is stupid. Just because a person, institution, company, government is good/bad at one thing doesn't mean they are automatically good/bad at something else.
  2. If that is teh case, then provide me what the ROI is on investing in a library or a school. Find me a post where I said this project will have a positive ROI. Quite clearly have stated there is more at play than just a pure financial ROI calculation. Lets say building a Library is a 25 Million dollar investment, with an ongoing maintenance budget of $1,000,000 annualy. I'll look forward to your ROI calculation. Since without a positive ROI, there should be no investment in a library.
  3. I said if the map was correct.
  4. If the picture attached above is correct, he certainly didn't do a 180 and walk back to his vehicle. If he was on his way back, it was after he continued looking or pursuing or following or something...
  5. You mean like turning water into wine, or healing the sick with a touch, coming back to life or parting the sea? Pretty sure the believing in miracles and magic is your baileywick.
  6. thanks for inserting many more real world examples. The "Socialists" would prefer to argue with imaginary numbers. Because running a city is not the same as running a business. What is the financial return on a library. Or a pool? What about infrastructure? What is the ROI on a road, or a bridge? What is the ROI on a school? I don't think you would like it if cities, states and countries were run as a business. You too are a "Socialist", you just have a different list you are holding your hand out for.
  7. You have a make-believe-friend, yet I am naive. That's funny
  8. Rebuilding it, things age. The main tenant's lease is up. It's an issue on any construction job and not specific to this or stadiums. That's why bringing it up is grasping at straws.
  9. Maybe you already met on middle ground. You could have gone to the press. You could have produced a marketing campaign, teling people what this church was doing. If anything illegal happened you could have reported it. I am assuming you did keep they money you had already received. Which is middle ground, since you could have felt strongly enough to return the money.
  10. Stadium is already there. Are you advocating that municipalities do not maintain and improve buildings and structures they own? You are starting to grasp at straws.
  11. Except now you have to spend a billion. In this case you are spending less than half of that, yet still getting the larger investment in your community.
  12. Don't know what the deal calls for. Plus the municipality isn't paying half a billion. Uhm no. Only if the venues for alternate activities are already running at max capacity. If not, it would be a net loss in employment. You are also discounting the employment generated by $1 billion investment in "infrastructure". Lots of construction jobs for that area.
  13. In this case it is an indirect property tax by the way of fees paid by users of the public facility. Property tax was probably not the correct wording, but still a loss of revenue.
  14. 26 years later you have already received all the "rewards" of your quick arrest and conviction. There will be little to no negative consequences to the judge, DA or police officers involved.
  15. They don't. They have an interest in perceived justice, since that aids in re-election. Quick arrests and convictions score high on the perception of justice.
  16. Thun is very nice. I spent most of my time in Beatenberg, mostly since our house was there.
  17. It took 1 PI less than a day to prove the existence of the other Carlos.
  18. Well, lets take a look at actual facts. 150 guests paid $40,000 a ticket to attend. This raised $6,000,000. Then there was an online raffle to "win" tickets to the event. That online raffle is believed to have brought in $8,500,000. So, "ticket sales" accounted for $14,500,000, received prior to the annoucement.
  19. I don't think it is less offensive, but I also don't think they are equal. What is offensive in racism is the thought that men of different races cannot be eachother equal or that women of different races cannot be eachother's equal. Men and women simply are not equal, which makes sexism different, IMHO.
  20. Perfect, build sidewalks with public money for recreation and let the transportation companies and automotive companies, who make incredible amounts of money off highways and paved roads, fund the building and maintenance. Or maybe investments made with public money aren't really made based purely on financial ROI calculations? Maybe we also look at societal benefit? Or maybe we look at jobs created? On a local level, maybe we look at how it affects the liveability of a community? Or we can be shortsighted and only look at the financial ROI, but then you really should do that with all expenditures of public money.
  21. So is air traffic control, the poorest don't fly. So is building roads, the poorest don't have cars and certainly don't own transportation companies. So are farm subsidies. So are subsidies that stimulate business and provide employment. The armed forces is probably the largets form of welfare for the rich. It isn't only publicly funded, but it uses the blood of the poorest to protect the richest. And makes people incredibly wealthy along the way. Welfare for the rich is a poor excuse. Every investment made by public money helps a rich person along the way.
  22. So, a $1 billion dollar infrastructure investment in the local community is a bad thing? The stadium is already publicly owned. Letting it sit vacant will reduce income in property taxes and reduce employment and reduce income from stadium usage. You can't look at this is new money for new business. This is an investment to maintain current employment and revenue over the long term. Plus it allows for a large local investment which will generate employment.
  23. Uhmm, I am not debating that the event following his annoucement made him a lot of money at $40,000 a ticket. I was asking you to explain your logic how one influenced the other. The time lines seem too short. So, care to explain?
  24. There you have it folks. Shoulda, coulda, woulda is not real life. We weren't discussing only what real life is, but also what real life SHOULD BE. If real life isn't the same as what it should be, then we need to move towards changing real life for the better. And that's what this thread is all about. I thought it was about guns. Real life can only be lived with guns. Everybody knows that.
