I like the large print in the hard backs. Easier on the eyes.

No no no, you need to come to Florida. 1> Lot's of Canadians here, we affectionately call em snowbirds. 2> Hurricane season is almost over! (okay, maybe only 2 or 3 city busters left this season). 3> The apartments down here have 7in think cement walls(see above for why). You can scream and shot as loud you want and not bother the neighbors. 4> We don't drink Vodka down here, it's tequila and that mexican beer you put limes in(I should know this, but hell, I only drink tequila). 5> With a name like flyinchicken, you're a natural BirdBabe. Florida is crawling with the birds(Z-flock holds a boogie like every month). 6> Winter in Florida has more boogies than anyplace else. 7> And really, those hurricanes aren't that bad. Really.

Talk to the person going out after you and make sure they know to give you a good exit count. If you're going out solo and don't know/trust the person behind you, you can watch them exit the plane and get an idea if you have the seperation you want. Talk to your instructor about how to safely create more seperation in this type of situation. Avoid DZs that rush people out the door and ones that don't do go arounds. Start flying wingsuits as soon as possible

Kind of curious about the booty problem too and wouldn't doubt it was size related. The stock sizing on the PHI will make it an interesting fit for some people and probably impossible for others. I loved the construction on my PHI. It felt solid, and despite being too small(sent it back for a larger size) it was very comfortable and just had a nice weighty feel to it.

I think you'd be suprised how much practice and effort goes into skydiving. There are lots of disciplines to the sport: relative work, freeflying, freestyle, skysurfing, wingsuits, crew, swooping and each can consume years worth of practice to get good at. As for danger, I think it depends on what you're doing in the sport, not the sport. I'm guessing ice climbing is a lot more dangerous than climbing small rocks, just like swooping is a lot more dangerous than RW. I'd kind of wonder how the communities are different or similar. Skydiving has dropzones... does climbing have anything like that? Places climbers just go to on the weekends and chill out?

Inappropriate student canopies for lightweight people.
MarkM replied to Trae's topic in Safety and Training
Heh, tell that to the guys that use to jump rounds. -
You're supposed to add water? Next you'll tell me you're not supposed to shave against the grain.

Dude, those rock. I want the suit/helmet in winsuit_B.jpg. Leave out the landing gear though, I'll stick to using a chute

The problem is, you don't know what you don't know, I don't know what you don't know, but your instructor having met, talked, taught and jumped with you, knows what you don't know. That makes him the right person to be giving you advice. Once you're off student status and get in some more jumps, you'll learn more about what you don't know and that makes it safer for others to give you advice. And while you might not take advice from here and go out and practice it without the consent of your instructor, other people will and have done so. -

No it's not irresponsible, and people say it because many many times there are considerations to take into an account that a person on an internet forum won't know about. This is especially true, when the person asking for advice is a student, because there's a lot they don't know and they can easily leave out information that a person needs to know about in order to give safe advice. -

Find out the make and size of the canopy you're jumping, go to the manufacturer's website, look up the specs on the canopy and find out what the min wing loading is for the canopy. If you have any other specific questions regarding the issue, discuss it with the manufacturer of the canopy or your instructor. They're 100% more reliable than some anonymous source on the internet. -
Tracking, wingsuits and then more tracking.

A wingsuit But when I'm not in one of those, I like to kick back and wear some sweats, comfy socks, and my comfortable tshirt. Ladies, you know the type of shirt, the ratiest, nastiest, falling apart shirt us guys own.

My brother had a wallet with one of those chains that attach to it. He had the chain confiscated on the way in to Six Flags once. And they sold the stupid chains inside the park. Don't underestimate the stupidity of how people will follow policies.

Video is real nice as a learning tool. You probably won't be aware at all what you're doing with your body up in the air(especially your legs) and with video you can see 1st hand what issues you might have.
-
You're not forced to jump at a particular DZ either. If you signed the waivers, understood and followed the rules then the risks associated with that are your own. If you felt there was a safety issue you could have the ST&A sign off on you not needing an AAD or you could go to another DZ.

Which is the greater killer, skydiving or base jumping
MarkM replied to LilZilla's topic in Safety and Training
The comparison I've been told is: Skydiving: Low chance of dying, small chance of injury requiring long term hospitalization, you'll likely have light injury at some point requiring a short hospital trip. Base: Decent chance of dying, you'll likely have an injury requiring long term hospitalization, pretty much guaranteed to have a light injury at some point requiring a short hospital trip. -
Negligence in skydiving or '' Just sign on the dotted line."
MarkM replied to Trae's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What incidents? Where are all these students pounding in and dying under too big of canopies? Frankly your post has no examples, no facts, a lot of BS and painting of DZs and skydivers in broad strokes. I can only guess you're trying to start a nice little flamewar. -
I think this is the most important part of it. Plan and prepare. Plan for an alternate caregiver if something happens to you, plan for loss of income in case you get injured, prepare your kid so he/she can handle seeing you get injured if they're gonna hang out at the dropzone, etc. Kids can handle a lot more "reality" than people give them credit for, but as a parent you gotta prepare them for it.

Yeah, this thing was tearing up the sky. I may have to order engines for my PHI if I want to keep up with you. Anyone else think that this suit has a very wide leg wing? I wonder if that's where it's getting all its drive.
-
Another option might be a FT-50. I believe they have a larger face than the altimasters. http://www.paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=5&level=1

It may have to do with the suit sizing design. My MT is too small for me, but it still manages to fit because the design on the suit is flexible. The arm cuffs pull up past my wrists quite a bit and if part of the design was loops, it definately wouldn't fit as the loops wouldn't reach. Loosing the loops may make the suit sizing a little more tolerant. I could actually fly the MT fine, it's just too much of a fight to get into the damn thing

Got mine today too, though I need to send it back for a larger size, it's a little too tight. I was curious about how to stow your legs for walking and what-not too. No snaps, but the top of the booties has a loop attached to them. Not sure what that's supposed to connect too though
