  1. A side slide won't save you when your canopy folds up at 30 feet and you go slaming into the ground. The solution PLFs try to solve isn't horizontal speed. Horizontal speed will bleed itself off(while snapping/bruising your extremeties in the worse case) as you tumble across the ground. It's the 30mph verticle dump into the ground that's the real worry, because all that energy goes straight into your body which will crush internal organs.
  2. Aside from collars, I never really understood how the tie came about. "Hey, let's intentionally wrap a noose around our neck." Fashion is so silly.
  3. Gosh, I see the light now. I think I'll stop being a loser, walk away from my computer, go to a bar and get laid. Either that or get smashed on a bottle of sake and play drunken counterstrike til 3am. I always forget which one of those is supposed to be cool and which one is lame
  4. Does that make them the wingsuit prom queen?
  5. I like those ideas. The multi-plane big ways definately seem to be the "defining" event for the Flock and Dock, but really they're a PITA to learn on. The skilled guys fly up front nice and tight while the noobs zoom all over the sky trying not to splat up against someone else. I know small flocks at ZHills are a "yawn, we do this every day" thing, but I think for a lot of people being able to jump in the air with even 6-8 other birds is a rare treat. And for me anyway, it's been a lot more fun flying tight in a small formation than loose and all over in a big one. I guess the real issue with that though is making sure there are enough people to lead and organize the smaller specialized flocks, so the odd people out don't end up wandering around wondering what they're supposed to be doing.
  6. I thought the Mach One was only $1100? It says $1300 on the order form.
  7. Gear manufacturing. Someone has to test jump the stuff you design.
  8. If I was in a lot of permanent pain that couldn't be corrected I could see checking myself out. So I personally wouldn't judge anyone harshly for taking that road in that circumstance.
  9. If what you bought at the drugstore has "wings", then you probably picked up the wrong product.
  10. Ahh man, how the hell are we gonna keep those west coast wingsuiters under control in the wingsuit forums without an east coast wingsuiting moderator? They'll like, have opinions and shit now.
  11. You know it just sounds like you have a little burnout and maybe you want to focus on other aspects of your life, that can be equally rewarding as skydiving has been. Maybe focus a little on the career, maybe be able to have a GF without worrying about her being jelous of your hobby, maybe just hang at the beach on weekends, maybe have a night out where the "guys" you're with are normal people and not insane jumpers. The sky isn't going anywhere. You don't have to sell your gear. And while your skills won't be the shit if you're not putting in 300 jumps a year anymore, you're not gonna turn into a sky spaz if you just treat the sport as a vacation and hit the boogies and do the odd weekend here and there.
  12. What, no PHI?!? But but but, it has scallops....
  13. Using it before may help with the sensory overload, since you'll be more accustomed to the airflow, body position and so on. But I'd ask the instructors that are going to do your AFF. They may want to see you in the air first and use the tunnel to correct specific issues or they may have coaching deals where they can work with you in the tunnel themselves.
  14. Because pets can't complain to us about issues so they need to be checked out more often. And humans should be going in for regular checkups once a year or two. Depends on how old you are.
  15. What do you like about it, what don't you like, how does it fly compared to your X, etc etc.
  16. I'll be there. In fact I'm moving to Orlando in a couple of weeks, so I'll probably be at ZHills every weekend from Jan on out
  17. I moved to Florida 6 years ago and love it. I live in SE Florida now, but will be moving to Orlando in about a month. Cost of living used to be real cheap until the housing market exploded. In SE Florida houses are still 300k+, but prices seem to be coming down a lot in the rest of the state since there's still land to build on. The job market is also pretty good, I'd imagine you'd do alright as an EE. Orlando has about 5 dropzones within 2 hours of it, so if you can find a job around there you'd be set as far as jumping goes. It's hot down here, but you get used to it. And the hurricanes aren't that big a deal. You just learn that once a year or so you won't have power for a week or two and plan accordingly.
  18. Con is that while the SL jump itself is low cost, the training FJC is about 8 hours and needs to be paid for.

    Wii Woes

Don't forget, you're not supposed to take the Wii skydiving.
  22. Some people get bored of one without the other.
  23. Sweet! Now you can focus full time on your singing career. You taking auditions yet for backup vocals? "Take me out to the dropzone..."
  24. My first hard opening was so bad it caused me to move to Florida. So how would that one be defined?
  25. Just make sure the charter stops through ZHills to pick up the Florida gang.
