  1. I don't think you realize how beneficial wind turbines are to solar power. That's right - solar. Imagine a line of turbines running for thousands of miles longitudinally - starting at, say, El Paso, and running north along the 106th meridian West all the way to the Canadian border. Stay with me on this. Now, assuming you point all of the turbines them East, and you get them spun up so that they're blowing to the West, that means they'd collectively be generating so much thrust that it would enhance the speed of the Earth's rotation. You'd have successive periods of daylight more frequently, resulting in increased solar power generating capacity. P.S. I've already got the patent on the idea, so no stealing.
  2. yes, you just keep repeating that talking point, even though already rebutted.. Good pawn! Good! Here's a biscuit.
  3. second time in the thread you said that. gosh, we have no idea what you really mean by it. There's a good pawn.
  4. Over the long term, less than the alternative.
  5. Ah, but you were un-speeding. I think I can hear your lawyer on the phone: "Let me explain how many ways I can make you folks look foolish very publicly..."
  6. Ya....My solution is LITERALLY right above you. ***I am sure if forced to there is a way to ensure every legal American can register to vote, or get an ID without causing them undue hardship. Would you be ok with requiring ID to vote if the government facilitated resources such as help obtaining birth certificates, transportation, and registration? This program would be audited by public groups such as the fair elections network etc. to ensure it was fair and adequate? In principle, maybe, as long as the end result is that the risk of a bona fide qualified citizen being unfairly refused the right to vote at the polls is vastly smaller than the statistically insignificant sampling of people who might actually waste the time and energy to cast more than one vote on Election Day. But what you're failing to appreciate is what a pawn you're being played for. This is an utterly manufactured issue thunk up by the 50% of professional political operatives who work for the GOP side, and then sold as a product to gullible, good-faith conservative citizens by the ilk of FoxNews et al., knowing fully well that their "consumers" will parrot the talking points for them. They're insulting your intelligence, and you're just saluting going along with it like a good little soldier. Instead of being their willing cannon fodder, you should resent their date-raping you.
  7. This. I agree. Despite Bigun's encouraging personal anecdote of his lawyer (an out of state one at that!) getting his ticket to disappear, truth be told, these days that really doesn't happen very often at all, absent a convenient convergence of connection and corruption. 19 over, clearly guilty, and you can avoid the conviction, points and insurance up-tick by attending traffic school? Many states don't offer such a clean get-away with a speeding offense. It's a no-brainer.
  8. Good on you for showing him he's not the only social retard in the sport.
  9. I think you need to recall the long-standing history between CA cops and Okies. There's your answer.
  10. Add me to the list. I'm old enough that I never get carded buying alcohol, nor do I make retail purchases by check. So aside from airports I can't recall the last time in years I've been carded for anything. Oh wait, I recently renewed my drivers license. Yeah, they made me show them the old one for that.
  11. Pfft. More stock meme. This will shock the shit out of you, but life is lived at the local level, and Jesse and Al aren't the presumptive spokesmen of most African Americans any more than Buzz or Jeb are the presumptive spokesmen of the skydiving community. Jesus H. Christ, all you rednecks, get off the "Jackson and Sharpton" slogans already- it's long past obsolete.
  12. Most people who don't have photo id to vote pretty much never fly, rent cars, stay in hotels or have credit cards. Broadly, that's kind of the point.
  13. You're inventing facts, or in this instance, a lack of facts. As has been pointed out many times, condemnation of urban violence is fairly common and frequent among, for example, black clergy, mothers sticking their necks out to have vigils against violence, etc., etc. These are most often done at the local level, and get reported locally. And that's not all of it, either. Just because you're oblivious to it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. But saying it doesn't happen is a popular and oft-repeated meme among the crypto-bigots.
  14. I don't understand what you Brownshirts are bitching about. The vast majority of the campaign promises that have gone unfulfilled have disappointed the liberal base. You should want this guy in for another term.
  15. The federal court was blunt in speaking the truth when it called the Texas system "an unconstitutional poll tax." The urban analog to that is the proportionately large number of poor citizens, mostly black and Hispanic, who not only don't have driver's licenses (lessons, cars and insurance are too expensive, and there's no safe place to park a car at home), but have little real need for them because they're well (enough) served by city buses.
  16. I'm talking, whoever you are, about the federal court ruling, reported in the news the same day "that other guy" started this thread, invalidating voter ID laws in Texas and Wisconsin. https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=federal+court+voter+id Either this thread presumably was prompted by that ruling, or it's one hell of a cosmic coincidence that "he" decided, out of the blue, to rehash that well-flogged horse on that same day. Anyhow, the answer to the "OP's" question (at least that part that did not presume an incorrect fact) is found in the court's ruling. Read it.
  17. Personal responsibility is about living within one's means. Oh, shit! I forgot to put in this month's order for moonshine. I'll get back to you.
  18. I am a moderate humanist. I will never vote for a right-wing Republican pseudo-theist fascist.
  19. McCain had a lot more appeal to the common folk in the swing voting moderate middle than Romney did. Mighta grabbed the brass ring, too, had he not screwed the pooch by picking a scary train wreck in Palin to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
  20. Did you read the court's opinions in response to that argument? There's your answer. Ps. They are registered to vote. The ruling is about the IDs. Read it. Sorry, you lose.
