Mike Brown’s Mother Caught in Armed Robbery
Andy9o8 replied to CameraNewbie's topic in Speakers Corner
Who? -
Ha! You fool, you're looking at the wrong border. First, while you're getting distracted by all the brown people, "they" (the pasty-faced ones) will come here for "winter vacations". Then they'll start taking over our DZs. Then they'll go after our daughters. Before long, "Hey, asshole!" will be responded to with a group "Eh?" Hell in a handbasket, I tell you, and it's all cuz you ain't keeping your eye on the ball. I mean, puck. Whatever.

. Next time we will do it your way. If you mean standard BBP protocols, isolating people who are contagious (symptomatic), allowing those who had been exposed but are not yet symptomatic (not contagious) to lead normal lives as "my way", good. If you mean no stupid quarantines of people just because they were in the same general area of an infected person, no suspending teachers because they were in the same general metropolitan area as someone who was sick (along with a couple million others), if you mean teaching people basic geography (over 3200 miles between Kenya and Liberia), if you mean not being stupid, panicky sheep; then even better. You make it sound as though there are only 2 possible gradations of risk. I don't think that usefully defines the boundaries of the discussion.

Hello. I've been meaning to ask: first one ever, or first one to come out? If the former, how are you so sure? -
A well-discussed point. Food for thought.

That's nothing compared to the microwave oven accidents. Oh, the humanity. -
I don't think that logically follows at all, nor have I heard it either expressed or implied as such, at least by people who support gay rights. But I understand your point.

Hey I used to jump a Sabre1 for a while myself when I got recurrent about 10 years ago, so I have nothing against them. They're fine, for an older design that isn't mfg new anymore. But I find it's pretty rare to see them anymore. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

You're replying to a 12 year old post, in a thread in which one of the canopies discussed (Sabre1) has, by this point in time, almost (not quite) passed into obsolescence.

I think you're kidding yourself if you try to deny the linkage between "the causation issue" and people's attitudes; and in that regard, not all negative attitudes manifest themselves in the form of "meddlesomeness". Even in the minds of lots of people who readily agree that other people's sexuality is none of their business (and act accordingly), there's still a huge difference between "something that you DO" and "something that you ARE". The difference informs the entire social discussion. I see what you did there.

From the White House's own website, here's the entire quote reproduced, in full context, without being cherry-picked for brainless spin: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/10/31/remarks-president-women-and-economy-providence-ri ***THE PRESIDENT: True. (Laughter.) And too often, parents have no choice but to put their kids in cheaper daycare that maybe doesn’t have the kinds of programming that makes a big difference in a child’s development. And sometimes there may just not be any slots, or the best programs may be too far away. And sometimes, someone, usually mom, leaves the workplace to stay home with the kids, which then leaves her earning a lower wage for the rest of her life as a result. And that’s not a choice we want Americans to make. So let’s make this happen. By the end of this decade, let’s enroll 6 million children in high-quality preschool, and let’s make sure that we are making America stronger. That is good for families; it’s also good for the children, because we know investing in high-quality early childhood education makes all the difference in the world, and those kids will do better. So we need family leave, we need better child care policies, and we need to make sure that women get an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work. (Applause.) About 28 million Americans would benefit if we raised the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour -- (applause) -- like Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed support. And let me say this: Minimum wage -- those aren't just teenage jobs that are impacted. We're not just talking about young people. My first job was at Baskin Robbins. And I got paid the minimum wage and it was okay. Wearing that hat and the apron was -- (laughter) -- yeah. But the truth is, the average worker who would benefit from an increase in the minimum wage is 35 years old -- 35. A majority of low-wage workers are women. A lot of them have kids. Right now, somebody working full-time on the minimum wage makes $14,500 a year -- $14,500. If they’re a parent, that means they’re below the poverty line. Nobody who works full-time in America should be below the poverty line. (Applause.) They should not be raising their kids below the poverty line. I am not going to give up this fight. And we need Republicans in Congress to stop blocking a minimum wage increase and give America a raise. (Applause.) And if a woman is doing the same work as a man, she deserves to get paid just like the man does. (Applause.) Even though it’s 2014, there are women still earning less than men for doing the same work. And women of color face an even greater wage gap. (Applause.) And at a time when women are the primary breadwinners in more households than ever, that hurts the whole family if they’re not getting paid fairly. Again, men, I just want you to pay attention. When Michelle and I were starting off, there were stretches of time where Michelle was making more money than me, and I wanted to make sure she was making every dime that she deserved. (Laughter.) Right? I don't know how I benefit by her getting paid less than a man. Right?[url]

Being an attorney doesn't force him to defend gay rights. Now if he were a government official (AG, Justice Dept) and he was correctly fulfilling his oath the defend the Constitution, then yes, he should be doing that. But since I'm fairly sure he's in private practice, he does it because he believes in said guaranteed rights. Your statement subtly suggests he might be arguing a stance he doesn't personally believe. Correct, and agreed. I just chose to stick to the main subject.

I guess you'd be concerned about the waste of time, given that in yesterday's thread you didn't want to live past 50 and think that 70 year olds have no value. You may be 30 years old but you think like a kid and post like a grouchy old man. Hey no problem, we'll all get off your lawn. -
Yes, but you're still confirming that you're (incorrectly IMO) equating innate sexual orientation with sexual behavior. They're 2 different things. You believe that homosexual sexual acts are sinful. I get that. So logically, as a matter of morality, you seem to believe that homosexuals, in order to remain moral, are left with only 2 choices: either (a) remain celibate, or (b) engage in only heterosexual sexual acts. All voluntary sexual acts, as well as all voluntary celibacy, are matters of choice. Innate sexual orientation is not; it exists from birth. The rest is really just debate over opinions of morality and social policy.
