  1. And now another scary guy from Ohio: Ohio man accused in Capitol terror plot What is it with these people from Ohio? Hey, here's an interesting bit of trivia: of the 8 Presidents from Ohio, 4 died in office, 2 of them from gunfire. Never trust anyone from Ohio. Except astronauts. Then again, Jim Lovell almost got killed in Apollo 13, and Judy Resnick was killed in the Challenger accident. The message is clear: Ohio is cursed.
  2. Sarcasm, or paranoia? Truthiness. There's a neat article in space.com about it.
  3. The post has nothing to do with Obama, but a Pastor who strongly espoused questionable values within his church & family. Simply...his daughter stole from the taxpayers & from the Poor people who needed Job Training and lied about it. She engage in activity her father on many occasions had accused others who participated in similar crimes against the Black Community. She and her husband stole from the 1.25 million state grant that had a similar name Barack Obama's set up know as "My Brother's Keeper" the program in question was know as "We Are Our Brother's Keeper" You do know the 2008 election's long over, right? Nobody who wasn't already an Obama-hater gave a shit about it then, and nobody who is anybody give a flying rat's ass about it today. You need to let it go. Maybe take a nap.
  4. Let's see... Obama's... former... pastor's... uh... daughter. Shit, I knew there was some reason I shouldn't have voted for him in 2008. Oh, well.
  5. Don't look now but the Chinese are going to mine the Moon for Helium-3, and leave the rest of us in their moon dust.
  6. When the Saudis jacked oil prices up, they were fuckers. Now they're keeping oil prices down. Those fuckers! LOL. Helluva world.

There's more! Church canceled lesbian woman's funeral
  8. How would you know? Good point. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_vuFztbSqwgQ/SHmYmU5yILI/AAAAAAAAAFc/fD-7lajFowc/s1600-h/boogie_man.jpg
  9. In Oregon it is illegal to make an audio recording of anything any LEO says. The law/legislation ( the last that I knew ) had not caught up to make video recording illegal. Jerry Baumchen Yes and no. As far as I can tell from a very quick (but not exhaustive) search of Oregon statutes (I don't practice in Oregon), Oregon is one of many (i.e, not all) US states that criminalize the recording the audio of any conversation without all of the participants' advance consent. So it's not so much that recording a LEO as such is illegal, but that there is no exception carved-out of the law exempting someone when the person he's recording happens to be a LEO. (PS - there might be some states that do specifically prohibit recording LEOs, but I haven't searched for that, so I was only referring to Oregon.)
  10. When faced with a possible crime, what does the ACLU, any lawyer, and anticop group suggest you do? STFU and call your lawyer. In a police involved shooting they are just doing the same thing. Why advocate anyone blow up their case with a PIO that says stupid shit too early and seals the court of public opinions thoughts on the incident? Also valid points, but I think Skycop answers those points pretty well (see especially the bolded parts): Mind you, skycop and I both contemplate a well-trained and capably-performing PIO, not the amateur (at that skill) who says stupid shit, as you're concerned might happen.
  11. You raise valid points.... but the competing interest is that in the absence of a capable PIO, the result is often either departmental stonewalling or - sometimes even worse - a supervisory-level LEO who might be a very good cop but is a lousy public communicator, and winds up coming across poorly. The result of either of those can be public outrage, or even insurrection. On balance, I'd still go with a well-trained and capable PIO, as well as a policy of timely and clear communication. I hate analogies of anything to skydiving, but here's one anyway: after a serious incident, the difference between a DZ (or a USPA!) that stonewalls, versus a DZ that clearly and timely communicates substantive info to the public. We've all seen the result in perception from each, haven't we?

  13. Those 2 propositions are logically inconsistent.
  14. They exist but not as fox stated. FWIW - I googled the "muslim no-go zones" keywords. After scanning 10 pages of google-hits, I had to stop. And I find it interesting, FWIW, that virtually every hit showed it to be yet another viral meme circulated and re-circulated by the right wing blogosphere, or anti-Muslim sites, etc. In those 10 pages of hits that I scanned, not a single hit was from a mainstream news outlet that has a reputation for journalistic neutrality on political matters. The only hits I found that weren't from, ahem, "totally out there" were 1 or 2 from FoxNews, the Wall Street Journal (highly, highly biased to the Conservative on political matters), and the Daily Mail (the UK's equivalent to the US's National Enquirer). If you want to do anything other than preach to the choir of the usual Muslim-bashers and their skin-headed pals, credibility and reliability of sourcing is not unimportant. Just sayin'.
  15. Fish tend to smell from the head down. It's more than a matter of what is technically a manager's responsibility. In this case, I find it a bit hard to believe that Heronner didn't at least give her ok to the tactic of the subpoenas before they were issued. Remember Nixon's "I take the responsibility, not the blame"? Well, he was to blame; and by the way, Dick, yes you were a crook, too.
  16. He didn't really confirm it, except in a very equivocal way that speaks better for itself than how you're describing it. But be that as it may, since when is "Look! A Frenchman has surrendered!" a winning argument?
  17. Sorry, but that's a losing argument, on all points, especially if it were to reach an appellate court level. 1. If they were publicly-available, there was no need to subpoena them, so the subpoena would be a form of official abuse of judicial process, and a pretext for unlawful governmental intimidation of clergy. 2. If they weren't publicly available, subpoenas to churches (mosques, synagogues, etc.) for private records are generally given very strict scrutiny, and courts generally only enforce them when, supported by a clear showing of probable cause, they're narrowly-tailored to lead to evidence of crimes (and/or actionable civil claims), such as sexual abuse, embezzlement, fraud, etc. 3. Courts are also, properly so, very loathe to scrutinize speech within churches, especially things such as sermons, for evidence of non- tax exempt purposes included in with all the tax-exempt purposes.

  19. Yes. Or a black person walking around in tough, working-class white neighborhoods all over the US, like, for example, "Southie", the South Boston section of Boston, MA. He'd also be in some danger of getting ass-kicked. And there are mostly-white suburban neighborhoods all over the US where a black male walking alone at any time of day, regardless of how "well" dressed, is virtually guaranteed to be, at the very least, stopped and closely questioned by the local police. I was going to post that story, but props to you for doing it first.
