  1. Nah, the JWs are fucked up, what with their Third World mentality rejection of modern medicinal practices such as blood transfusion. I like Epicurianism. Seems to be the logical precursor to Skydiverism.
  2. "John Allen, the US coordinator for the anti-IS coalition of Western and Arab countries, said Sunday that Iraqi troops would begin a major ground offensive against the jihadists "in the weeks ahead"." Gee, I feel better already. The Iraqi military. Brought to you by the same people who brought you the ARVN.
  3. Hm? Well, let's see. He's 55 now, and Google-fu reflects his net worth at around $40 mil. So he, and if he chooses, his kids, are well set for life. In my perfect fantasy world, he should divest himself of every asset he's accumulated since 2003. But since that won't happen, then as far as I'm concerned, he should just take all his assets and go away. I don't care where, just go away.
  4. I view it more as an enhancement.
  5. I see. Even I was hoping it was just a typo. No, that's how he referred to her in a 60 Minutes interview. You're unconvincing. The reference in the interview was to the plural of "Secretary of State". Although the correct way to say it is "Secretaries of State" (similar to "Attorneys General", not "Attorney Generals"), the plural is often mis-grammaticized at "Secretary of States". You, on the other hand, were speaking in the singular; so once again, you get an F in Social Studies.
  6. I see. Even I was hoping it was just a typo.
  7. The Russians are as corrupt as the Mexicans, and that's really corrupt, so no surprises there. And in fairness, no major American politician who has real power can attain that without whoring him/herself to the oligarchy, either.
  8. So far, my own google-fu doesn't seem to bear this out, other than a publicity photo of the king wearing a parachute over short-sleeved utilities (not even a flight suit), plus unattributed blogosphere rumors.
  9. The issue is that once again Rush just wants to blindly Obama-bash, once again his failure to put any real thought process into it has been called out, and now he'll just keep doing his thing as long as other people are willing to keep engaging him.
  10. I have only heard that term for a line (over) never heard anyone call line twists a mae west A line over or a partial inversion is a Mae West. It's called that because of the bra/boobie shape that it has. I had one on my 11th jump. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4608542;search_string=mae%20west;#4608542 Oh, wait! Oops! Yes, a Mae West was a line-over. I was thinking of "barber pole". Line twists were called a barber pole back then. See, the older the rest of you get, the worse my memory gets. No point trying to modernize the name to reflect pop culture. I suppose calling a line-over "silicone implants" sounds rather clumsy. Anyhow, I can still hear Kinger teaching us: "Don't cut away a barber pole".
  11. As a S/L student doing my early freefall jumps on round-canopy mil-surp rigs, I had lots of line twists from dumping while unstable. My way of recognizing a line twist, we called them Mae West's back then, was if my chin's pinned to my chest-mount reserve & I can't look up, it's a line twist. Anyhow, we were taught a line twist is not a malfunction. Just hang there & in time you'll untwist. Feet & knees together.
  12. Which enunciates a good tangential point: phone surveys/polls have been around for decades, but since caller-ID has become so universal, and increasingly so many people don't answer the phone if they don't know who it is, the control-sampling reliability of phone surveys may very well be measurably less today than it used to be... ETA: I really should tell the Gallup company about this. I'm sure it's never occurred to them.
  13. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... i.e., my first DZ back in the 70's... there were these 2 girls, I think they were friends, who were student jumpers. Pretty close together in time, one of them pulled really really low...and lived. The other one no-pulled for whatever reason, and her trusty (!) Sentinel Mark-1 popped her reserve... and she lived. Thereafter, they were called "Low-Pull and No-Pull".
  14. As you well know, given the terrain and the deployment of fighters, that would undoubtedly cause many civilian casualties. Of course, dead civilians can't breed, so I presume that's part of your intent.
  15. Don't you pine for the good ole days when commies hid under people's beds? Bet you miss them.
  16. Gosh. Certainly not less than one half of 1 percent of all the Muslims in the Tampa Bay area. Now, This image of terror in Tampa Bay depicts a shark. Somehow, I find that warmly comforting.

  18. Depends. Too early to talk about Asian drivers? Anyhow, holy fuck, indeed.
  19. Well, the part about buying something with the specific intent of using it, then using it, and then returning it for a full refund - rather than renting it honestly - is called "stealing". It may or may not be strictly illegal, but I happen to feel it's unethical. The skydiving community already has enough detractors as it is, people who think we're bums and druggies, and don't let us retrieve our cutaway mains and try to run us off airports. I don't think giving them ammo to call us thieves, too, is all that good an idea. Pardon my high horse.
  20. Yes; I was just using a statistically high control sampling to best illustrate my point.
