    (I'm not the one you addressed the Q to, but) It's in the first sentence of the Preamble: I find it pretty laughable that left wingers like you think the founding fathers envisioned this country turning into a giant welfare state when they wrote the Constitution. Very occasionally I experiment with engaging you in reasonable conversation. Whatever.

    Abraham Lincoln was the worst president this country ever had. It's illegal for the military to conduct military operations on US soil. See the Posse Comitatus Act. Any military action is to be ordered through Congress not the President. I'm generally sympathetic to the arguments you've been making in this thread. However, you have a commonly-held, overly-broad, and therefore inaccurate, understanding of the Posse Comitatus Act (which, by the way, wasn't enacted until 13 years after Lincoln's death).     I feel for you. That being said, I tried boycotting Chinese products after the Tienamen Square massacre of 1989. That was right around the time we were spitting-out our 2 kids. Guess how much success the average American has buying kids' stuff without buying anything made in China.

    The only counter-valance to that would be that there is such a substantial chunk of the economy (employment of LEOs, prosecutors, court personnel, defense attys, industries servicing those sectors, etc.) that is directly and tangentially connected to it. Not that that wins the day, but it's there.

    Good. At least that's a start. Decommission a couple of aircraft battle groups and fighter plane development and get the fuck out of Vietnamistan, and make the citizens of NATO's other countries carry a lot more of the burden of their own national defense and we just might have some real savings. But instead they'll deprive 19 year old kids of needed equipment to keep themselves alive and parade-out all the civilians working at redundant military bases. And people will go on blindly accepting all this farce being referred to as "defense". And people will keep on looking under their beds for Commies, oops I mean Libyans, oops I mean Iranians, oops I mean Eye-rackies with WMDs, oops I mean terrorists, oops I mean Chavez, oops he's dead but is he really?
