  1. Ah, well. Thanks for clarifying the moral high ground.
  2. Reserve trays tend to be very snug fits these days. Just wedge it in there. Guaranteed not to extract.
  3. The whole concept of salvation through belief offers strength to those who doubt themselves As we know, There's a sucker born every minute. As often as not, the sucker's none the wiser, so, unaware his pocket's just been picked, he enjoys his bliss. When he enjoys his bliss, he feels empowered. When he feels empowered, he goes to Vegas....
  4. Not a great example... When's the last time 71 people in a cinema were attacked/injured/killed by a woman armed with lipstick?? Helen of Troy brought a nation to war.
  5. Because nothing has such a demonstrated history of benevolence as eugenics. Eugenes everywhere are offended by that statement.
  6. This is the worst thing you could do for the position of S&TA (especially if it's separate from the DZO/DZM) in the US at anything bigger than a Cessna DZ. It puts them in a no-win position: either be "the asshole" and refuse to ever grant the waiver, or grant the waiver and - on that very basis - be a target of a lawsuit if someone gets hurt or killed on a "waived" jump. That's bullshit. I hope every S&TA in the US fully understands what he's in for from now on if this rule sticks.
  7. Nonsense. Happens in Pakistan & Mexico all the time. So there. The NSA is watching you.
  8. Bwahaha, imagine the rounds flying in every f*ing direction as multiple people fire at a moving car. Good solid, sensible approach.
  9. The opinions (even if styled as "experiences") of total strangers, most of whom are not trained medical professionals, to help you justify starting PT earlier than YOUR DOCTORS prescribe, are absolutely worthless.
  10. The following day, back in my rental gear days. At about 50 jumps I had a total malfunction (hard pull) and a very hard, unstable (basically head-down) reserve deployment at terminal that put me in the saddle passing thru 1,000 ft. (no AAD). Left my neck hurting like hell and the insides of my thighs purple. I'm glad I didn't wait longer than 1 day. In retrospect, I probably should have got back on the horse the same day, but I begged off, saying I wanted to rest my body. In truth, I just needed the time to get my mental shit back together.
  11. http://abcnews.go.com/International/russian-lawmaker-suggests-gay-athletes-prosecuted-2014-winter/story?id=19829868 Well, on the one hand, the particular Russian local legislator, who is not a member of the federal government, and who previously pushed for the new anti-gay laws, opined that athletes would not be immune from the law. On the other hand: So for now it's at best a mixed message with some assurances having been given. Be that as it may, I grew up in a world in which if Americans are held to a standard that their rule of law will be at least slightly better than the Russians , that's still setting the bar pretty damn low.
  12. It's because the mfgrs fear that if they increase the activation height, but the minimum container-opening altitude is not correspondingly raised, the result will be more 2-outs, with a corresponding increase in the risk of entanglements or downplanes. Which (they reason) means greater risk of more jumpers getting hurt in 2-outs, and lawsuits claiming the mfgrs were negligent in allowing their AADs to open too high (absurd as that sounds). As for jurisdiction, the mfgrs really care most about the US, since that's probably the country where the greatest risk of legal liability exists, both in terms of laws and number of skydives performed.
  13. A hop & pop from 3000 - 3500 feet, even an un-poised one, is no more "potentially dangerous" than any other garden-variety (if there is such a thing) solo skydive. Further, the practice is not simply a physical skill - exit, get stable immediately & pull - but doing so with the knowledge that you don't have the altitude (and thus the time) to dick around on the hill for 12 seconds and let yourself slowly settle into stability - you have to do it right away. Sorry, but a little bit of mental pressure is part of the training (and let's not use analogies, because they really don't fit). To take a hybrid approach that incorporates some of your thinking (and some DZs offer this), how about a 3-second hop & pop from, say 5,000, just to work on the physical skill set. Then another at around 4200, then another at 3500. By that time, the "lower altitude" jitters should be pretty much worked out. As I'm sure you know well, a large part of training is mental acclimatization to an unfamiliar environment. To AFF-trained jumpers, getting out low is unfamiliar. Best to get everyone mentally acclimatized with the reality of getting out low sooner rather than later. The alternative is a jumper freezing in the door during a bailout emergency, putting everyone's lives at risk.
  14. Yet another mass shooting. Mass of bullets, that is.
  15. This un-jacketed weiner has more of a pointed nose.
  16. News stories late today report that Aslan has become an overnight celebrity, his book is flying off the shelves, and FoxNews is being internationally reviled over this. FoxNews: stupid assholes patronized by stupid assholes.
  17. I don't understand why in this age people still smoke. See? - it's a killer.
  18. And Pat Buchanan, the Modern Face of Fascism, worked on MSNBC for years. Besides, it's worse to be an asshole than an asswipe.
  19. Yes, that's what's important. It's also important to note that she "sucked" at as her job. fixie.
  20. You're right. It's much more like, say, Daniel Ellsberg.
  21. She treated that guy like an intern. I crack myself up. Dogs bark, Earth is round, sun shines in the morning and FoxNews are all assholes. Move along, folks....
  22. "Intern" is an abbreviation for "internal examination". Personal responsibility; read the fine print.
  23. FWIW, I'm pretty sure that, at least in the US, the TSA pretty routinely opens/inspects checked-in luggage outside the owners' presence.
