  1. Seriously though, if you ever deal with phone reps for anything, keep detailed records of the conversation. I have a log which details date and time of the phone call, name of the representative and summary of the conversation. Also, if you are ordering anything on the phone get a confirmation number! This will help you deal with them (or in court if you must). I know this does not help the situation now, but it's for future reference! Jen

  3. So, I am sure you know that (some) people simply go into REMISSION, but are not CURED of cancer Jen
  4. Yep. That looks pretty good! What a nice fashion accessory, Jen
  5. I was in a movie theater a few months ago and some guy was holding a conversation on a cell phone while the movie was playing. This went on for 10 minutes! I asked hom to leave the theater and he mumbled something..something "bitch" to me. I am ordering those cards....and an RPG to go with it. Jen
  6. Yep. You are right. I think I used the term annuity,...but it is a cash value. LEt's say I pay in $180 per month for x years. If I choose to cash out, I do end up getting less cash than I put in. However, the longer I wait, the closer the gap becomes. At 36 years (which would put me at age 65) I would have put in $77760 and the cash value would be 74600 if I choose to cash out for retirement. (I'm not counting on social security). But, I did not purchase this policy for that, and will likely not ever cash out and leave the $$ to my survivors. It's good to have that security, if you ever need it. Now the key is good diverse investing. If this were my only investment, I could see how you would recommend buying cheaper term and investing the rest. That would make sense if someone had no other investments or savings. However, I already invest over half of my income in stock, money market, mutual funds of all kinds, bonds, state retirement, 401K, IRAs, employer, term and whole life insurance policies. I don't trust (lack of ) government help at retirement I know insurance policies are about making money for the insurance companies. It's true whether it's auto, health or life insurance. That's the name of the game. I could complain that over the past 10 years I have paid thousands of dollars in auto insurance, never had a wreck and won't ever see that $$! As Chris Rock says "It should be called 'in case shit happens' "! Term life insurance is cheap, but it is also designed to make money. They know that healthy 20-39 year olds have a small chance of dying. So you have a great rate, and than it expires. You never have the opportunity to receive the same rate or have a cash value option. You are just out of money. At least with whole life, the one rate when you start is guaranteed for life. Try getting an affordable $250000 policy at age 45 or 50! I am thinking about the future of my (not yet conceived) offspring! I don't want to retire rich, I just don't want to have to make a choice between buying medications or food. I think we live in a society of immediate gratification, without delayed gratification planning. I could go off on a diatribe about that! Anyway, bottom line is,..no matter what you invest in, companies will make $$ on you. I advise anyone to search around. I still have lots to learn about all this stuff! Jen
  7. Your friend has misinformed you. I have employer insurance (3 x my annual salary), but I also purchased a $250,000 whole life and annuity (I can cash it in as retirement at age 59) AFTER I started skydiving. That was part of the interview question. I also had to have a full physical and psych eval. They even wanted to know if I had ever had a drop of alcohol, touched a drug or cigarette. That all increases your liability too. My rate would have been lower, but due to skydiving I pay $170. This is a fixed premium for my life. And I can choose to cash out anytime what I have put in. If I wait until retirement, I can cash $$ put in, plus investment interest. This is through Liberty Life Insurance. There are plenty of non-employer life insurance/annuity programs out there. I suggest seeing a certified financial planner. I have had one for 8 years and it pays off well! Jen
  8. As far as life insurance, in my experience, they do ask about "extreme" activities. Skydiving specifically. In fact, I had to state how much I jump per year..etc. They said had I purchased the policy BEFORE I started skydiving, then the premium would not go up. But, I started after, and I pay $20 more per month than my husband (and he is 8 years older!). The wisest thing is to have the insurance before you ever get into this sport (or scuba diving). BASE jumping jacks your premiums double what skydiving does (for good reason!) Jen
  9. Another factor that makes those statistics is: Research has shown that people who live together first often don't hold as much of the *commitment* part of the relationship. When they marry, it's more of an attitude "not much is different, just a piece of paper". Level of commitment often does not rise significantly in those who co-habit first, whereas people who marry without co-habiting first see marriage as a huge step and huge commitment. Now having said all that, I lived with my husband for 2 years first. We have been married 6, and are still very happy! Jen
  10. That's some great info. Thanks for all of your feedback. I think I am going to go with the G3 with all the options! I'll post pics when it arrives! Jen
  11. Thanks. I had already looked at the threads, they were somewhat helpful, but they are a little antiquated. I'm sure many improvements have been made since those posts, and I wanted an updated view
  12. I'm about to lay down some big bucks on a mirage system. I can't decide between the G3 and the G4. Any suggestions?
  13. On the way to altitude in October, we were doing some pre-jumping video in the plane. It sounded like this: "We are getting ready to do an all female 3 way with Anna's husband video-ing" Jen
  14. We are not superficial! Beauty should be admired of both sexes, and I am doing my part to admire! Women still strive for full equality, and one quick step to get there is to be as sexually superficial as men! Jen

    Runners

How long have you been running? 10 years. Only 2 seriously. Do you run competitively or just for health? Mostly for health, but I like to run races because I train for races and it in turn helps my health. I don't care about winning. I do like to break my own records (which are not that high) What is your favorite distance? I love the half marathon. (13.1 miles for those who can't divide) I like the 5k too. I would like to do a full marathon someday soon. How many miles a week do you average? When not training, probably between 8-12. Training for the half puts me around 25-35. What shoes do you run in? I ran in Nike Air Max for years. I just switched to the Nike Pegasus. Some people hate Nike and their politics and sweat shops. Me too, but it is the only shoe I can comfortably run in, so fuck everything else. I would love to be like Dean Karnazes (http://www.ultramarathonman.com/about.php: Run 150 miles on the way to a marathon, then smoke the marathon in 3 hours. That guy kicks ass. Jen
  18. Come on! Lay off the Pitt man! He did suck a bit in Seven. But he rocked out in FIght Club. Plus he is hot. It's always good to see Brad with his shirt off.
  19. A good actor is one that is versatile in many different roles and can become the character. I would have to say that Brad Pitt (not just cause he's sexy) fits the bill. Think about his movies: Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Fight Club, Troy, Interview with a Vampire, Kalifornia, 12 Monkeys...the list goes on. He is an amazingly diverse actor. I must also say that Christian Bale is the man. He was outstanding in Batman Begins, American Psycho and should have received an Academy for The Machinist! Some actors that we are led to believe are good actors, always play the same character and same roles. Boring. That's why everyone flipped when Robin Williams played weird bad guys in One Hour Photo and Insomnia. He was surprisingly good.
  20. Actually, it is my understanding that, on average, men's ring finger IS always longer than the index finger. Women on average have a longer index finger than ring finger. This is not true in ALL cases,...but most. So I guess that would mean that almost all men have a large,..umm....member. We should take a poll of the men and women here, and I guarantee that most women will see on their hands, a longer index finger and men will see a longer ring finger. It's biology!
  21. I'm getting ready to turn 30 and my husband is 37. We have been together 9 years. No kids yet. We have both finished our master's degrees and have very good and stable jobs. We have nice paid for cars and many years of good financial investments. We were planning to begin a family in the next year, but now I am having second thoughts. 1. The thought of the attention and time involved is very intimidating. 2. I must admit, having just started skydiving, I would like to do this awhile longer before having kids! Maybe I am just making excuses! Jen
  22. Yep, I'll be working. Not just Friday,..but Thursday, Saturday and Sunday as well (therapist on duty at the hospital). I'm ordering pizza for Thanksgiving! Better to work this day than Christmas or New Year's! I'm missing the boogie in Louisburg (NC) this weekend. I hope all you Raefordites have fun. I'll be thinking of you!

    Funny names

I knew a guy whose first name (given by his parents)was Dirt Another guy had the name Cheyenne. It was his family's last name,...they just never gave him a first name. Art techer in high school was William Williams. And then there is the guy who invented and patented ground effects who legally changed his name ,in the past couple of years, to "They". Of course it was not his given name, but did become his legal name.
  24. That is a misunderstanding I brought so much beer during my AFF, it cost almost more than my training! Jen
