Skydive Safe? Help me change Peeps minds
daniel_owen_uk replied to liveitupa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Lets get this straight people, Tawnya states that "The point is to persuade people that skydiving is actually quite safe". Now unless I am missing something she doesn't say it is safe, simply that the point is to persuade people that it is. Usually the way to do that is to give an unbalanced opinion, for example; We use a slider to slow down the deployment of a parachute, as going from 120Mph to 5mph this makes terminal openings much safer. Obviously that statement doesn't state what would happen if you packed incorrectly or had bad body position etc. etc. But it is a persuasive arguement as to how skydiving is safe. Tawnya as you may realise reading this, most skydivers are very eager (and rightly so) to tell people the reality of skydiving, it isn't safe and shouldn't be described that way. __________________ BOOM Headshot -

Not listened to as many as I would have like but the ones I have listened to have been really excellent, combining with dz.com makes a lot of sense. __________________ BOOM Headshot

I know you meant that you ordered the seasons from amazon, but just clear it up for everyone else lol. Weed and daytime tv sounds like a plan though

Personally I don't think this video has done anything bad for your reputation, I thought you were and asshole before it

Wanna get my B licence really and buy first rig. __________________ BOOM Headshot -
What is the point of calling it JM1 and JM2, if you then have to describe which side is which? (obviously I am not an instructor, just wondering) __________________ BOOM Headshot

First jump - what a trip
daniel_owen_uk replied to DerekHall's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Did my first jump, didn't really have a cold or anything but my ears hurt like crazy, not a fun thing to do (well ok it was but it couldn't hear anything out of one ear for a good hour). Get unbunged, then get yourself doing AFF -
Not jumped at hollister but can answer 2 & 3. AFF = 7 Jumps (that clears you for solo & coached jumps), if you fail a level you have to repeat, to get a USPA A Licence you need to do 25 jumps (there are a few more requirements like "land within x meters" etc.), but they will let you know those as you go through the AFF course. http://www.skydiveelsinore.com/jumpstart/index.html Is a good example of AFF although it may vary slightly. Check www.skydivingmovies.com for video of AFF. I would wait to order your suit, there will be a lot you don't know (fall rate for a start). __________________ BOOM Headshot

Congrats, on getting through AFF now back to sunny UK huh :) (btw is this virginflyr3 reincarnate? I know that was another diana going to seville to do AFF begining of march, too much of a coincidence?) __________________ BOOM Headshot

I see your point, but there is a strong lean towards not giving out advice over the internet, not all of us are instructors, and you will hear the same thing from everyone on here, don't do anything unless you have spoken to your instructor about it. It's not anyone saying you are dumbass, or saying you will do something stupid, its just an attempt to make the above abundantly clear. That said don't pull on a riser 10 feet from the ground. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/ Is well worth a read, and viewing the student section of skydive movies is good. __________________ BOOM Headshot

The most annoying thing on the internet is some fuckwit that can't tell the difference, and you would be surprised at how many there are. __________________ BOOM Headshot

I didn't say anything about wingsuit (might want to click reply next to the person you are replying to). But as you asked, how about a fecking steep hill? __________________ BOOM Headshot

First two jumps there is a fair amount of dirt diving, arching on the ground hurts like a mofo, not really any advice, just that the more you jump the less you need to prove to instructors that you can arch. __________________ BOOM Headshot

Do you pay if you come down with the plane?
daniel_owen_uk replied to testpilot's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Never had to stay on plane, but once nearly had to, I was told that I would get my jump ticket (strange that they don't call it a plane ride ticket) back, although that could be because I am still a student. I wouldn't object if I had to pay, it would suck, but it's gotta be paid for somewhere along the line. __________________ BOOM Headshot -
I agree a cutaway system that will cutaway the canopy at both the top and bottom of the lines maybe? __________________ BOOM Headshot

I will be the second to say it RELAX Congrats on getting through level 1 it really is the most nerve racking, level 2 is almost the same, except you don't have to sit in a classroom for hours

Dancing on the ceiling....
daniel_owen_uk replied to abelizegirl's topic in Introductions and Greets
Try and think of not just the rush and the feeling, you have complete control too, you might not have the skill to do whatever you like, but you control it, its like driving a sports car being in on a roller coaster and... nah fuck it I have no idea how to describe it -
See I would suggest not doing a tandem, the money spent would be better spent on tunnel time (that's just my newbie opinion). As for the whole landing safely part, if you jump out, have the freefall bit, pull on time, then you are kinda forced into landing, might as well do your best to try and do it safely But go for it, you will love it. __________________ BOOM Headshot
