6010, 6011 are esentialy the same rod and are commonly used for the root passes, dirty metal, high penatration, out of postion welding and by farmers wanting to stick shit together. If you are holding something up and trying to stick to pieces of metal ogether in a hurry than 6010,6011 is the rod of choice. If the joint is something that needs to e of good quality I would tack together with 6010 and then run 7018. 7018 is a little more ductile and can take the stess of vibration and jarring with out cracking the weld. I disagree that laying in more passes is better. Your heat effected zone is huge when doing that and reduces the base metal strength. If you were refering to a root and a cover pass then never mind, you're spot on.. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!

Assuming you are welding in the flat position with 1/8" 6013. DC+ between 110-140 amps should do the trick. When using 6013 make sure you metal is clean i.e. grind it to bare metal. When you are dragging the rod try to keep on the leading side of the puddle at the desired puddle width. Since it sounds like a fillet weld concentrate the heat on the thicker metal. If you have dirty metal and don't want to clean it use 6011 or 6010 depending if you have a DC machine. Someone said you should use 7018 and they are right! If using 7018 just throw he rod in your oven for 20 min or so while you are prepping weld joint. Pre heat your half inch just a little before you start laying rod.. That is so awesome that you are thinking about a TI rating!!! I just received my TI this year and I am 5'10 175 lbs. While I'm larger than you I can describe some of the items that I have had to adapt too. 1st) 50% of my passengers are taller than me. I have found a little extra ground prep and keeping the passenger as relaxed as possible helps in the sky and under canopy. Unless they are huge, height has not been a major obstacle. 2nd) On average my passengers usually are about 10-20 pounds heavier than me. I have found weight translates to toggle pressure the heavier the passenger the higher the toggle pressure. That being said I see several passengers that match your build going on tandems every weekend which would be perfect for someone your size to handle. 3rd) John Mitchell has given good advice about having passengers help you land. I have found on the larger passengers if I don't have them help me land I get worn out quickly. The only draw back is if you do not spend the proper time on the ground teaching passengers how to land you run the risk of having them do something silly when it counts. Rule of thumb; take the time to brief your passengers regardless of how much pressure you are getting to get on the next load!! 4th) Taking people on their first skydive is very rewarding. You will learn how to adapt to all the issues that your size may expose you too. My advice, go through the USPA TI course and then make the determination if you want to continue. Roo, I hate getting shots!! I come close to passing out every time I get one. So when it comes to the flu shot normally I say no fucking way. That being said, some of the Docs at work are saying that they are already seeing flu strains that this years years shot would help prevent. I am starting to think about getting one. How are you coming to this conclusion? I think it's a fair assumption to make, that - most people do not borrow money without having the intention to pay it back. Yes, obviously it is possible to have problems arise from borrowing money, but seldom do people not pay their bills simply for the sake of not paying their bills...without cause and/or reason(s.) The reason the SR and other crap was given is because it was a larger problem and I only posted part of it. I couldn't remember how the heck to figure max swing so I was stuck....
