I just got mine a couple of weeks ago. I love it .... but be prepared to wait . Eight weeks is wishful thinking! I ordered mine through Miami. I've got nothing but good things to say about him! I am sure that there are others also. Miami78@gmail.com Kent ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!

Would you do a tandem with your wife as a passenger ?
kwmontreal replied to vidiot's topic in Instructors
I'd love to take her for a ride. Did video twice for her, but always declined to be her TM. I'd love too, but what if shit happened? Who would drive our daughter home? ************************************************************************************ Thats exactly why we will not even be in the same plane. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE! -
A license, 14 months off: what retraining is typical?
kwmontreal replied to Fireflyer's topic in Safety and Training
This right from the 2006 SIM. I consider this a minimum. Long lay-offs Back to Section 5-2 1. Jumpers should receive refresher training appropriate for their skydiving history and time since their last skydive. a. Jumpers who were very experienced and current but became inactive for a year or more should undergo thorough training upon returning to the sport. b. Skydivers who historically jump infrequently should review training after layoffs of even less than a year. 2. Skydiving equipment, techniques, and procedures change frequently. a. During recurrency training following long periods of inactivity, jumpers may be introduced to new and unfamiliar equipment and techniques. b. Procedures change to accommodate developments in equipment, aircraft, flying styles, FAA rules, and local drop zone requirements. 3. Returning skydivers require thorough practical training in the following subject areas: a. aircraft procedures b. equipment c. exit and freefall procedures d. canopy control and landings e. emergency procedures Back to Section 5-2 A License USPA A-license holders who have not made a freefall skydive within-- 1. 60 days: should make at least one jump under the supervision of a currently rated USPA instructional rating holder until demonstrating altitude awareness, freefall control on all axes, tracking, and canopy skills sufficient for safely jumping in groups 2. 90 days: should make at least one jump beginning in Category D with a USPA AFF Instructor or in Category B with a USPA IAD Static-Line, or Tandem Instructor before proceeding to unsupervised freefall B License USPA B-license holders who have not made a freefall skydive within the preceding 90 days should make at least one jump under the supervision of a USPA instructional rating holder until demonstrating the ability to safely exercise the privileges of that license. C and D License USPA C- and D-license holders who have not made a freefall skydive within the preceding six months should make at least one jump under the supervision of a USPA instructional rating holder until demonstrating the ability to safely exercise the privileges of that license. Back to Section 5-2 Back to top Basically do the first jump course again (at the retraining fee if the DZ is decent), and start with a metheod specific (staticline or IAD) PRCP or clear and pull under the supervision of an instructor. This all depends on your retraining and the conversations you will have with your instructor.A second jump do with an instructor and practice basic freefall skills (demonstrating pull procedures, instability to stability, turns, loops, barrel rolls, altitude awareness). Both you and your instructor will need to feel confident in your abilities to be safe. Have fun and welcome back! Well for starters I guess I'll try some Sony tapes, until I hear of something more technical. I just don't think that its a tape issue. JVC and TDK have been in the industry for eons, and it happened to both brands?? Thanks. Kent ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!

These are all new tapes. Heads were cleaned yesterday (AGAIN) and it still does it. A gentle bump on the heal on my hand seems to resolve the issue. I was hoping that I would find other PC1000 users that had the same problem, and, that had been resolved in some specific way. I do appreciate the great advice I have received. Isn't that really hard on the heads? KW ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!

Yes I have cleaned the heads and immediately re-played the tape with the same results. Kent ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!

Hi All, Its happened a few times now and it is becoming a concern. While playing back footage the image is "striped". By that I mean the there are horizontal lines of equal proportion across the screen. I haven't counted but I am guessing about 8 or 10 lines. Every second line is from the same "fabric" of video. I have tried shutting down and re-starting, ejecting and re-starting,..... to no avail. Here is what really hurts! A gentle "bump" once or twice seems to work. It does not seem to be tape brands (I use JVC and TDK) as it has happened on both. Has this happened to anyone else? Am I looking at $$$$$ repair? (I am not the original owner so no warranty. Thanks. Kent PS; Got put on the "beer Board" this weekend for first tandem vid. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!

There is no excuse for not leveling out and slowing up the aircraft!! If you don't want to follow good safety, don't permit these jumps, or, put together a H&P load. I realize that it may be impossible to fill the load, but you can have a few individuals. There is NO REASON not to be safe! Best practice (read: most safest) should be followed. Hey Steve, Let me throw in a new twist that "just ain't American"( proudly Canadian ). What would you say if I didn't get paid a cent for doing tandems? (alright everyone.... not all at once!! ). I am part of a not for profit club. No one gets paid (pilots, JM's, packers, inst.,....ect). We are a "student comes first" operation and therefore there is no incentive (or much less) to take the "big boys". It would boil down to safety and the comfort level with each individual TM. I am not looking to start anything, just want to point out that the TM discretion truly does and should play a major part in the "go/no go" decision process that each individual makes. I never really thought of size and weight of my Tandem student. I thought the same as you, just another tandem. I am not an old timer, I started last year and am still learning today. I am guessing that around my 20-25th tandem was my biggest student to date. I was 5'10" and 175 (185 lbs. now ... life is good). This Airforce MP (burlington, VT) was 6'8" and 275lbs. I kinda had an idea that it would be a challenge, but I was not nervous .... until The pilot (and TM) who was flying (can't remember if it was the C182 or C206)reached over to open the door and looked down at my crouch and said "boy you have big ones today!". That got me thinking and a wee bit nervous. The skydive went really well. However, did have to ask him to put me down after we landed!! Would I do it again? hard to say..... probably not. Was this a case of to stupid to know any better ..... hmmmm...or just plain "what were you thinking" .Take your pick! Kent PS: Wish I had a pic. Would be nice to get paid by the pound. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!

Finally my FF2 has arrived. I have never flown camera and do not have any resources at out DZ, as no one uses ringsights. I now need to mount the ring sight bracket to the helmet. I have the following from Para-Gear: 1) LB1242 Sight 2) L1366 Clamp 3) L1365 Bracket I have gone through quite a number of the forums and have a grasp on drilling (dremel), and filling (clear nailpolish), nylon screws and silicone, and a few other details. I have determined that I am left eye dominant, and therefore will be mounting it on the left side of my FF2. I only want to do this once and do it right so I am asking for your input and insight on the positioning of the clamp on the helmet. nothing is to simple not to mention .... remember... I have not done this before. I would rather learn from your experiences then make a bunch mistakes of my own! Pictures would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch! I am waiting (patiently I might add) for my new FF2. I also wanted to do some practice exits that would simulate the exit for our 206. Our vid guy hangs from the end of the strut with a toe on the edge of the step. Do I ever have a crapload more of respect for him and what he does!! To put it plainly ... I suck! I will however get better before I attempt an actual tandem video. I will " learn to crawl" before I walk or run. HP landing on a( the first) demo jump?
kwmontreal replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Safety and Training
Agreed fully! BIGGER NO!! (my 0.02) Kent You need a PRO rating to demo into a stadium, and you need 500 jumps MINIMUM for a PRO rating. My opinion is a BIG "NO!" EDITED to add: These are USPA requirements. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE! -
I think that there is only one person qualified to answer that ..... her Cardiologist!! Anyone else attempting to give advise on this is playing with a life! Kent ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------JUMP SAFE!

FISH-EYE LENS 0.38x for SONY CAMCORDERS
kwmontreal replied to kwmontreal's topic in Photography and Video
Hi All, I am considering buying a lense off of Ebay. I don't want to spend to much, and this lense seems reasonable. I am no stranger to Ebay and checking out the sellers. I would appreciate any comments from people who have bought from this guy (sainidigital), or on my choice of wide angle. I have a 0.5 already. New to camera flying (zero camera jumps), and waiting with the rest of you who have ordered from 2k. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7627894274&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Thanks...
