  1. That's the one that that the Fox people said that they hadn't confirmed, right? That's my beef with FOX. They have a tendency to report on things that aren't confirmed...over...and over...and over and over again. Something about "say it often enough and..." It's a interesting contrast now that I think about it. CBS reports something that's factually accurate yet from a lousy source. They get raked over the coals. FOX reports something that's factually inaccurate. They get good ratings. That wasn't the same one that called the police on them was it? I really don't know. I didn't pay that much attention to all the coverage. Regardless, ACORN has what....1200 offices in 40 states or so? And a few employees screwed up and got fired? Hell, our Congress doesn't have a record that good.

  3. I had a hard opening that probably would have exceeded those limits. Got banged pretty good by a container while doing an uncomfortable rear-rear floating exit on a king air with no step. I also got caught in the burble of a four way on exit. I pushed off successfully but I almost got kicked in the head. Things happen. Altimeter straps are cheap. Just a thought from a newbie. edited to add: Maybe I should have read a bit closer. Did you say that the camera is locked in the box so it won't fall out if the side is open? I may have misread it to mean otherwise. Regardless, I also forgot to mention that it looks great.
  4. Police report? No help? Confession of a "former escort" killing her husband? I suppose you could call that a pattern. I'll bet Glen Beck still pops a vein when you remind him of that last one
  5. Exactly. Perhaps I should have been more clear: the problem with putting together any history of the methane release in the original article is that it is in the Arctic, without a land mass to hold the ice. Most of Greenland lies in the Arctic, along with other significant land masses from quite a few countries.
  6. Don't worry. They will. And it will be Obama's fault. You see, in our new socialist society there are no guilty people
  7. Looks a lot like some of the anti Bush rants penned by several posters here. My point exactly. I just thought putting the Bush administration and the PNAC in the same sentence would have been redundant.
  8. Nah, we just said he couldn't pronounce it.
  9. Past guys have inherited shitty situations too. None of them upp'd the debt as a percentage of GDP by 30 points in a single term. Barring a radical change in course, that's the best case scenario for us right now. Fair enough. But honestly, how would it have differed with someone else in office? As for a Reagan bill, I think the $40 is a good idea, with a yellow hue trickling down from top to bottom.
  10. I was thinking the same thing. It would have made a great "VANS" ad if it had the logo on the bottom. Nice framing of the tandem to go with it.
  11. Just so you and I are on the same page, what do you think the "public option" is or contains? Specificaly as you can I can't guess what those polled are assuming when they hear "public option" but the description was: "something like the Medicare coverage that people 65 and older get -- that would compete with private health insurance plans?" The Federal Employees Health Benefits Program is another model to pull from. The VA program and it's ability to buy drugs at bulk pricing is certainly attractive. But for me to come up with my own list of specifics would simply be a wish list. I have no idea at the moment what this Congress will come up with as a public option as the lobbyists continue to rain cash on them. But I'd like to see them put something forward. I'd also like to have some single payer arguments, at the very least, presented publicly before they get shot down by industry....I mean "Congress".
  12. Still clicking, came across this summary from the same poll. * In Nevada, only 34% support the Senate bill, while 56% support the public option. * In Illinois, only 37% support the Senate bill, while 68% support the public option. * In Washington State, only 38% support the Senate bill, while 65% support the public option. * In Missouri, only 33% support the Senate bill, while 57% support the public option. * In Virginia, only 36% support the Senate bill, while 61% support the public option. * In Iowa, only 35% support the Senate bill, while 62% support the public option. *In Minnesota, only 35% support the Senate bill, while 62% support the public option. * In Colorado, only 32% support the Senate bill, while 58% support the public option.
  13. Man, you sure are a fast reader. Read it, looked at the questions, disseminated the information and came up with a non-preconceived reply in record time there Marc
  14. True. Very true. I'm waiting for the public option that the majority of the public supports. i guess I'll have to settle for this right of center crap that is being pushed at the moment. Post your current poll please I'll even keep it in your back yard. http://iowaindependent.com/28532/poll-majority-of-iowans-favor-public-insurance-option

  16. There are citations in the article. These are the two relevant references for that quote. Unfortunately (or fortunately from an employment standpoint) I don't have time to look up the cited 10-k filings. 12) Company 10-k filings with the Securities & Exchange Commission, selected financial data tables. 13) Bureau of Labor Statistics. Consumer Price Index: Historical Data. http://www.bls.gov/cpi/.
  17. It seems like Anthem jumped the gun on these rate increases - a wiser company might have let a little more time transpire before assuming they were in the clear. My (employer based) health insurance expense has probably doubled in the last decade, not counting increased co-pays, deductibles, drug tier increases, etc. The program that funded my position was cut and I had to find money elsewhere. While making the transition I was told I was going to receive a pay increase. After taking a closer look at my benefits package they realized that they could no longer afford to give me that raise. I was fortunate to not lose any salary. Anthem now has that raise. Our new Governor just told us that he was going to give us a one time 3% bonus at the end of 2011 but that we could expect no raises through 2012......oh....and that our health care expenses are going up again. Meanwhile......"Recent economic data show that profits for the ten largest insurance companies increased 250 percent between 2000 and 2009, ten times faster than inflation." While I have no problems with my health care providers, the insurance companies are parasites who are trying to find out exactly how much they can bleed their hosts without killing (all) of them.
  18. I wouldn't include the auto companies with that elite list of offenders. What's next? Big Pharma. Where I live the pharmacies are now more plentiful and architecturally dominating than the banks. Apparently, to live in America you have to pay a lot of money to take a lot of drugs so you can be just like those happy people on the TV ads. "Side Effects May Include...nausea, vomiting, headaches, heartburn, hair loss, diarrhea, dry mouth, water retention, painful rectal itch, hallucination, dementia, psychosis, coma, death, halitosis, lung cancer, mental retardation, brain tumors, paralyzation, sleep loss, internal bleeding, internal combustion, a sudden craving to sniff your carpet, an addiction to cocaine, heroin, PCP, speed and Windex, bone weakening, claustrophobia, acne, playing Everquest II, regular PMS, making Jesus cry, the inability to use proper english in an online environment, homosexuality, AIDS, an urge to stab your spouse, inability to breathe oxygen, urge to watch the Chinese version of Friends, migraines, diabetes, deafness...same as sugar pill."
  19. Would you be interested in having the chance to compare your current bcbs plan with a government run option? In what way would you compare them? Cost/Coverage/red tape....etc.
  20. Well my political agenda is to get our government back out of the pockets of industry. I plan to continue to demonize those who are destroying our country for personal financial gain. This is not a jealousy issue in the slightest, nor is it in any way to be considered some form of class envy. It's a common sense argument. Health care costs too much in this country. Nearly everyone agrees. Executives getting paid 350 times the average wage is part of that cost. Having at least five well paid lobbyists per Congressman is part of that cost. Spending over $10 billion dollars/year on drug advertising is part of that cost. I don't want to pay for any of that crap. And while it's not a "tax" coming out of our front pocket it is indeed money coming out of our back pockets through reduced compensation. The primary reason for the HC industry is to provide health care services to people who need them. The primary reason for existence should not be to make confiscatory earnings. Those priorities have gotten switched. The HC system is now a parasite and it's doing real and lasting damage to our country.
  21. No. But I'd be interested to read it. However I know that "profits" are taxed so I expect the book keepers to keep them as low as possible by as many means as the tax code and as many inefficient operation models as are allowed. Maybe if the monopoly enabled HC providers can hire a few more administrators they will be "unprofitable" enough to get a taxpayer bailout. Our HC system sucks due to government enabled inefficiency. The only way to fix it is for government to enable the efficiency that it is willfully denying. Our modern health care system is what you get when you allow capitalism to go unchecked. I love capitalism. But untempered capitalism will be the death of this country.
  22. Two quick thought's, because I have kids in the tub and can't pursue further this evening. 1) You probably don't PAY 40% in taxes, although that may be your rate. If you do pay 40% then $50 towards a copy of turbo-tax would be money well spent (although you could probably get the IRS to come up with a lower figure for you for free....well, not "free". We paid for it.) 2) I would not be surprised if your insurance company has eaten more of your income/potential income than our government has.
  23. I'd pay money to see an accountable peer review process in the "news" industry. Sadly though, the peers aren't much better.
  24. I can. I for one am sick and tired of Anthem pocketing my raises, and my future raises.
