Court uses Bush & Cheney as examples of expletive use
idrankwhat replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
You're really stretching on this one to find a reason to pick a fight with Kallend today. Basically I read his comment as "don't just blame TV". -
Cold Cash in the freezer and Clinton got a Blow Job

Your filter is clogged again. You're not getting all of my post. You're just getting one sentence out of it, missing the rest, and starting an argument. And by the way, the article that I was referencing came from the wacky leftist Center for American Progress. http://www.americanprogressaction.org/progressreport/ Go ahead and give it a read. Besides the calls for Jefferson to be held to a higher standard there's some nice stuff about what a hypocrite Boehner (can't read that without laughing) is. There's your example of double standard. -

So you're in favor of having words like "fuck" and "shit" be commonplace on prime-time kiddie TV shows? ?!??!?!!!???? How'd you get to that from what he said? You bucking for a talk radio gig? -
The newer ultra low sulfur diesel fuels are much much lower in sulfur and I think that by 2010 the EPA has mandated that all stations carry ULSD. In addition, the post combustion clean up systems are getting better. There's a Selective Reduction Catalyst system that uses urea to supposedly reduce the NOx's to nitrogen and water.

40% of Republican Presidential candidates do NOT believe in evolution
idrankwhat replied to JackC's topic in Speakers Corner
Yea, I saw them groveling yesterday on PBS. They were showing Obama, Hillary and Edwards doin' the holy hoedown while showing Giuliani and McCain claim that their faith is a personal matter. Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!!!! -

But do they actually not believe in it, or do they feel that they just have to say that in order to be electable? And which is worse? I think that they're simply brown nosing a small but very vocal voting block which historically has high voter turnout. Sadly, to get them to vote you into elected office you have to pretend that you're going to deal with two issues that really should have nothing to do with your official duties. -

Amen to all the above! Turn the damn thing off and you won't have to worry about exposing kids to lousy programming and the language in question. The end result will be a thinner, healthier, less ignorant electorate. I'm dumbfounded at the amount of dumb I've found on TV these days. -
Fixed it for you. Car Manufacturers are doing GREAT in the Non-Union South East US. Not that you're wrong about the unions but companies like Ford got lazy. The SUV craze hit when people were making lots of money and gas was still cheap. The Ford Explorer body was slapped on a Ranger chassis and then they doubled the price. They were making loads of cash without having to do anything innovative. If it wasn't for the F-150 they would have faltered years earlier. The companies that didn't get lazy are the ones leading the pack today (but yes, I believe that they're also non-union).

American diesels of old were basically converted gas burning engines and they were crap. However I had a 1984 Toyota Corolla diesel that regularly got 50 mpg, personal best of 55 on a long trip. Unfortunately I lost it in 1998 and 210,000 miles (original clutch thank you very much) when I decided to "do the right thing" and get the timing chain replaced. The dealership apparently didn't know how to fix them because it ended up being the death of that car. Europeans have been way ahead of us for quite some time on both diesels and cleaner diesel fuels.

The American auto industry is the downfall of the American auto industry. They got lazy and greedy in the 90's. Now they're paying for it.

The technology is out there. It's just not embraced as being as patriotic as a humvee. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A2

Word! No, I'm not trying to be hip. I used MS Word. Next to the "spork" it's the tool of the devil.

I hear that Tom DeLay's ghostwriter will be ghostwriting the book. But on a serious note, I just read a list of the charges: "..... racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money-laundering, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act." What's the problem? I thought this was just the run of the mill Congressional legislator job description. -
Declare Venezuela to be part of the axis of evil. I thought Pat Robertson already did that. Oh yes, I forgot that. I suppose we must invade, then. I think you mean "liberate". Gonna be hard to do though. I mean with Afghanistan, Iraq, a new war in Iran and potentially Russia how are we going to be able to send any more reservists into a Venezuela yearning for "freedom®"? Actually, scratch the Russian conflict. That will simply be an expensive arms race. No troops, just debt.

Reagan called it "trickle down" and you're right, it's not working.

There are so many incomplete assessments in the monologue it's hard to know what to address. But I'll pick the above. Why should the oil companies get special breaks such as multibillion dollar subsidies and tax incentives, especially during a period of record profits? Energy is a major national concern, one that dictates our international military and security policies. Why shouldn't the government dictate, through incentives, how it wants its supply produced if the goal is to lessen our dependence on foreign sources? Of course if the actual goal is to maximize profits for multinational companies and their domestic enablers/partners then let's just keep doing what we're doing.

If you've got access to the internet it would probably be best to get some news through the BBC. I wouldn't suggest relying on the US media right now. Next year's election political dancing is already being covered full bore and since Paris Hilton is going to jail I don't expect to hear much else covered with any depth unless they decide to dig up Anna Nichole Smith. Best wishes for safety and a speedy return.

The board did find ethical wrong doing. However Wolfowitz and his lawyer, Robert Bennett, stated that he would not resign unless the board issued a statement that exonerated him.

There are any number of people who have taught that we should be kind to others. Why didn't they get hung on a cross? Maybe his message has a point that pissed a lot of people off back then, and still does. Otherwise, there would be no reason for the derision. Probably because they weren't reformist rabbis who chose to come into town on a donkey and start flipping over the tables with the money on them. I'll bet that if I started exposing Pat Robertson's sins and threatened his cash I wouldn't be around for long either.

Yes they are. http://www7.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0704/feature1/ For some reason some people have problems understanding the concept of living a sustainable lifestyle and the consequences of failing to do so. And the sad thing is that the people who are trying to live a sustainable lifestyle pay the biggest price because the wealthier countries steal their resources.

Nonsense! That notion flies directly in the face of our values of freedom and free market omnivorism!

I was thinking this very thing yesterday. Two days ago it was Darfur, yesterday it was AIDS. Now climate. Personally I'd prefer a show with actual dogs and ponies and a lot less Executive greenhouse gas emissions.
