  1. Think of it as an American equivalent to the suicide bomber. They are just ordinary folks doing whatever it takes to bring attention to their perceived plight. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." It is okay to practice our rights, right? The criticisms of these activists (not yours specifically, rehmwa) make it seem like peaceful activism is a bad thing, and should be ignored. What options does that leave for those who feel it is important to get their message out? I guess they could follow Eric Rudolph's lead.
  2. I was thinking more holistically than any single event. You are right. Some of the conspriacy claims are easily debunked. But, as you and many others have pointed out, there are a lot of holes in the official story. I for one am in support of a full and transparent investigation, if for no other reason, than to end the conspiracy theories.
  3. One of the more difficult things to learn about landings is to flare according to how much lift you are feeling through the harness, and the view of the horizon, instead of where your arms are relative to the stage of your flare. Your arm position is going to change according to conditions, altitude, temperature, brakeline length, etc. The look and feel of a successful flare should ideally only change in time duration. In other words, a Spectre and a Velocity should feel much the same during a flare (speed and length of landing "runway" notwithstanding), but the time duration of the landing under a Velocity will likely be greater. I tend to avoid terms like "two-stage flare" because a flare should be a smooth motion, and not staged. There is no point at which you should stop flaring and wait for the next "stage." Your arms should not necessarily move at a constant rate, but the idea is a smooth transition to a (softly) landable velocity. For Great Deals on Gear
  4. Are you sitting down? How about an internationally just foreign policy? We need to stop letting oil be the deciding factor of our official position with respect to other countries. Why have we taken action in Iraq, but only paid lip service to Darfur? O-I-L. Obviously, if we were rteally concerned with human rights we would take on genocide wherever it is found, and not just in oil producing countries. It is rather naive of our elected officials to believe that these foreign nationals are not intelligent enough to see through the hipocrisy of our government. Looking out for oppressed peoples, and not just corporate profits, would go a long way toward stopping violence in many places in the world, as well as rebuilding foreign respect for America.
  5. IMO there is not enough eveidence available to the average citizen to support a conspiracy theory. Unfortunately, there is also not enough evidence available to the average citizen to support the official story of what happened on and before 9/11.
  6. After all, look at all the great things the American installed Baath Party did for Iraq!
  7. Allow me to expedite things, then. Roe v. Wade says the mother's rights do, in fact, trump the rights of her unborn offspring.
  8. I think the concern is being convicted of breaking a law that was non-existent at the time of the "crime." Many of those who pay more than lip service to freedom in America find themselves justifiably concerned when such things happen. That it happened to a coke user does not make it right, or even better.
  9. First, the camera wings I have always jumped were not zipper attached. I don't see why that would make a difference, but just in case, I want to point that out. The camera suit had a much greater effect on my flying than the actual camera. The suit will add a significant amount of surface area where you had none before. This will definitely affect your flying. Additionally, it increases the size of your burble. It will be more important to give a good hard throw to your PC to make sure it clears the larger burble. As far as tracking goes, this will depend on the tracking abilities of you and those you are tracking with. Ideally, in a track, you want to decrease your frontal surface area as much as possible, allowing for max forward speed. You also want to increase your lower surface area, so that your descent rate is minimized. A camera suit does a good job with the second part, but having your arms wide is going to decrease your forward speed, which will most likely make your track a bit steeper, even if it is a bit slower. The most efficient tracking positions I have seen (or found) have arms in relatively close to the body, and legs pretty close together. Rolling your shoulders forward and down, as well as lowering your head a bit, will cup air and flatten your track. A slight de-arch can be helpful. Also remember that you will get best results pushing down against the wind with your arms. Cupping your hands can also be helpful. If your arms aren't tired come pull time, you probably have room for improvement here. A good flat track can be physically exhausting to maintain. Also, be aware that there are some very important considerations to be made concerning the spot on tracking jumps. For Great Deals on Gear
  10. If you are referring to it as "extreme left wing B.S." you are obviously missing the point of using a peaceful public demonstration. If they can't get you to give an honest attempt to view things from their perspective with peaceful methods, what is the next step? What actions are necessary to gain the attention of the powers tht be? Her lost son is her motivation, not her cause. Her cause is much more selfless, her cause is for all the sons and daughters over there.
  11. Is a peaceful demonstration really that bad? Would you prefer something more violent to make the point?
  12. Paradoxically, a Theory Of Everything could be used to predict the discovery of the Theory of Everything. A theory of everything would explain just that-- everything. It could be used to show that its very discovery was, in fact, inevitable, and not at all a result of any scientists' free will. This is of course at odds with Chaos Theory, which places great importance on "missing information." It is also contrary to most, if not all religions I have studied. For example, the Tao te Ching begins with (something to the effect of) "The Tao that we can speak of is not the true Tao. In other words, the ultimate truth is beyond human understanding.
  13. ? Short explanation: Hebrew for "thou mayest" Long explanation: See John Steinbeck's East of Eden.
  14. IMO, Physics' pursuit of a Unified Field Theory (aka Theory of Everything) poses a much greater threat to the idea of free will than does any religion.
  15. If for no other reason than to access the additional features (unavailable in English) of the software already installed on your computer!
  16. I believe solar would be a better solution, considering that 1% of the Earth's sunlight could provide all the world's power at current usage rates. I'm not sure how nuclear energy could be more efficient than utilizing energy that is already being provided to us free of charge.
  17. What options did you pick? I can't see how they could be too similar. At MSRP with all options that come standard on the Javelin, The Wings is more than $400 less expensive. In fairness, the difference will be smaller at "street prices." It is an outstanding value, especially for anyone who neither needs nor wants all the bells and whistles. For Great Deals on Gear
  18. This is the first bad thing I have heard about Tony Suits. I've known many happy owners. Having said that, IMO the most impressive, highest quality suit that I've com across is Ouragan. They are expensive, but worth every penny. DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT SELL JUMPSUITS!!! For Great Deals on Gear
  19. I think the leg mount is for when the altimeter is used as a data collecting device instead of an audible. In theory the data should be more accurate than if mounted in a helmet. But you're right; it makes it very difficult to hear your audible! For Great Deals on Gear

  21. I do not get this impression when sitting in a classroom these past few years. I've seen liberal and conservative professors alike encourage Neo-Nazis (extreme right wing) and Neo-Marxists (extreme left wing) to explain and support their personal philosophies to whatever peaceful extent they feel comfortable with.
  22. If that is what you are charged, it is true. It sounds a bit steep IMHO. How did you clean the salt water from the rest of your gear? For Great Deals on Gear
  23. I edited my previous post to reflect that the embroideries are not standard on all manufacturers' equipment. It is becoming a more popular standard feature, and some of the products come with embroidery by default. For Great Deals on Gear
  24. If the two term limit rule was rescinded, Hillary would more likely be the First Lady once again than the President.
