What's your favorite plane?
tso-d_chris replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sounds like a perfect jump plane to me. I've seen one take off before. Most taxiways have more than enough runway! If there is a decent headwind, a person could run along side it while it takes off. Other favorites: Skydive MO's widebody C182. 13 min to 10K fully loaded fairly easily. Jet Bell helicopter at Quincy. The only time the ride to altitude was much more fun than a very enjoyable skydive. Skydive Deland's Porter. Extremely fast climbing. Plus, you gotta love a plane that can carry more than it can hold. It's more comfortable if a slot remains unsold, though. Any tailgate aircraft Anything that's not a King Air -
Inappropriate student canopies for lightweight people.
tso-d_chris replied to Trae's topic in Safety and Training
I was wondering when someone was going to point out that this is a spotting issue, not (usually) an issue of a too large student canopy. If an instructor does not understand that the spot for students is sensitive to wingloading, lightly loaded canopies are likely to often overshoot. I agree that a reliance on GPS is a contributing factor. Over the past few years or so, many students are not even taught to spot. Some of these students have gone on to become instructors with poor spotting skills. There is definitely a problem when we place the blame for this situation on canopies that are too large. Some students are going to screw up one or more of their student (and beyond) landings. There is very good logic behind the idea that mistakes are less costly when they occur at a lower speed. -
Re: [cheneyneel] Cypres Investigations???
tso-d_chris replied to cheneyneel's topic in Safety and Training
I know of no single brand of any piece of skydiving equipment that is superior to competitive brands in all scenarios. With that in mind, why not just use an FXC Astra instead of a CYPRES if an AAD is required for peace of mind or DZ rules, and high vertical speeds are induced on landing? It is easily switched off under canopy, and requires a slightly higher descent rate, IIRC, than does the CYPRES. In this particular scenario, FXC appears to have the superior design, of the two. -
I believe it is foolish to put any AAD in your rig and "forget about it." They do change things, and can prove to be fatal if not taken into consideration when determining deployment altitudes, emergency procedures, and canopy flight.

Is this unusual?

I don't sell jumpsuits, BUT... No suit has impressed me as much as Ouragan. While expensive, you get what you pay for.
-
IMO the Icon offers superior value, of the two.

Jump Shack still uses a minimalist ideal with the Racer. Four flaps, four flaps and three handles and a harness. There is less potential for problems than any other rig I know of. That is not to say that the Racer is the best rig out there, or the safest. There are no such absolutes in this sport. There are, however, devices that add safety in some situations, while adding potential danger in other situations. Knowledge of your gear and keeping your wits about you in an emergency are, IMO, the best safety measures jumpers can take.

CIA Member Reveals Clinton & Bushes Behind JFK Jr. Assassination?

I've answered that question at least twice already, though not necessarily in this particular thread. Please do a search.

Or large scale evacuations. Which would definitely contribute to looting.

Long before any significant help was received, assuming you are limiting your question to LA.
-
As of at least last Thursday, the head of FEMA was still publicly denying there were people in the NO convention center with no food or water. That was long after any delay the Governor made before asking for federal help. That was long after any time period when only first responders should be on the scene.
-
Why not go ahead and help the state that had already asked for help? When LA did ask for help, why not give enough to actually do a bit of good? Why wait so long after help was asked for to do anything?
-
From what I can tell, except for a vocal minority which is blindly supporting the President, this situation has unified the country quite well, not divided it.
-
His job.

How come MS received so little help when the residents there were begging for it? Was that the fault of NO mayor or LA's Governor? After that initial 24 hour delay on Blanco's part, why was the federal response still delayed so long? I am wide awake, TYVM. That's how I am able to see past the flaws in your argument.
-
He might make sure there has at least been a federal reponse before he goes to his parties. That picture (the one of the pres, , not the photoshopped one) was taken early last week, as I undertand, before FEMA was even acknowleging the extent of the situation.

I said it was minor by comparison to Katrina. Having been hit by three of those four hurricanes last year, I know that compared to what Katrina did, Florida was minorly inconvenienced by hurricane season '04. How can you say otherwise with a straight face? I was there too.
-
I'm not buying your example. The margin of victory was merely a sliver of the margin of error. There were numerous indications of voting fraud. There was a limited time to find a solution to the problem of no clear winner. A recount extension is hardly the same as being rewriting laws. If they saw fit to interpret the law in a manner consistent with the spirit of the law, rather than the letter of the law, in a situation not anticipated by the law, they are fully within their power to do so. If the US Supreme Court disagrees, theye are fully within their rights to use their authority to interpret the law differently than the lower court. That is why we have an appeals process. It is not judicial activism.

Who has blamed only a single person?

Have you noticed that it is the right that can't seem to let the elections go? I said nothing about Bush not being a legitimate election winner. I said he failed in this aspect of his job. Miserably. But I never brought up the election. Please stay on topic.
-
What are you talking about? Since you brought it up, though, if I pay taxes to the government, I am owed services from the government.
-
If you think Florida last year was even remotely as bad as the Gulf Coast region this hurricane season, you were obviously not in FL last year. I was. Charly, Frances, Ivan and Jeane were minor inconveniences in comparison to Katrina.
-
Great. More hysterical support for a President who acted in complete incompetence with respect for this disaster. If you can't see the problem with the pres playing his guitar at a party while Americans are begging for help, then I must admit, I feel soory for you. Most reasonable people would be appalled.
