That's sweet! Talk about a time saver. I love this program and it's sooo much faster than my old program but this will make it wicked fast! Thanks for the tip!

Need help with external switches for digital stills
bigorangemd replied to VTmotoMike08's topic in Photography and Video
I have a toggle switch that my DZO installed onto the back of my helmet. When the tandem master gets in the door I reach up and switch it on and the camera starts taking pics. When I open I reach up and switch it off. Works great and I have about 120 pics when I'm done. Catch some unexpected and great shots that way. -
Going to West tennessee this weekend
bigorangemd replied to poolmarty's topic in Events & Places to Jump
No special events but the King Air will be there. Saturday should be average (you can make just about any load without the slots being full) Sunday I suspect will be much less busy (they may not turn many loads) with it being Easter. Weather looks good. P/C 67. -
I second everyone's posts. It is very rational. I wanted to jump all my life. I was married young and my dad jumped in the 60's. Sounded cool but never had the chance. Went to medical school in West Tn. where there is a great DZ. Had a fellow student jumping and was dying to do it but my wife was against it. I was the bread winner and the father of three. I saw her point and honored her request. At 35 when she filed for divorce to go after someone else, she moved out and I jumped that very weekend. Fell in love with it. I have since remarried and my new wife isn't crazy about it but I was jumping when I met her and it came as part of the package. She understands (sorta). Now my oldest is 17 and has 19 jumps. It is MUCH harder watching him jump that it was for me to go and do it so I get to see both sides now, though I encourage him as long as he wants to jump (and continue to pack for me).

Pilot Chute hesitation & dumb luck
bigorangemd replied to danielcroft's topic in Safety and Training
Another possibility is that it was not a tight closing loop but a weak PC throw that allowed it to get stuck in the burble behind your back. When you reached for the reserve handle your position may have changed allowing it to clear. At the altitude you pulled you had time to deal with the situation and handled it fine. Differing views on whether to cut away given that situation. A similar situation happened to me after a weak throw, nothing happened, butt puckered, grabbed pillows, and felt the bag come off my back. Discus this possiblity with those around you and see what they think. -
Need to know what percentage in pneumothorax is. around 20% or less should resolve without doing anything. After it has resolved for a week or so, won't be a risk of redeveloping, however jumping with broken ribs HURTS! Usually takes about 6wks before most people are comfortable enough for opening shock. Good luck.

where have you packed?

I'll be there. -
You'd jump out and bye bye board in the blink of an eye.

Please bring it back. Hands down the most fun I've ever had. Sometimes I have to wake up and play "What a wonderful world" on my IPOD when I get up in the morning to remember the feeling of early morning at the convention. If you have they will come...

A couple of yrs ago when I was a new jumper I came to the Farm while traveling through Atlanta. I met a lot of great people. I jumped with Brandy a couple of times and stayed for the poker game. Though I only met him a few times, Lee was a great guy and I'll always remember him. This is truly sad and tragic. Fly Free Lee and Brandy I am so very sorry. Will

It's not a software issue. I bet if you look close Lee gets similar results. Every Neptune I have seen does the same thing with that type of cut prior to exit.
-
It starts counting from the cut. Usually 5-10 sec before Mike's "Exit, Exit, Exit." so the rest would be climbout and launch. I KNOW your FF time didn't exceed 60 sec.!
-
Dan, That is exactly what sets it off. If your FF was 97 sec., you weren't one of the first groups out. When Mike hits the flaps it goes into freefall mode at that point. Your freefall includes the groups before you exiting, your climbout, and your freefall. To this point there is no way to correct it, just gotta live with it. The 195 won't do it. P.S. - next time ask your Neptune Rep.....(me)!

Well having one kinda makes you an expert
-
After he is released to normal activity it is something he can do with a few dangers he needs to be aware of. As long as landings are normal no problem. He is at increased risk of dislocating his hip. Also if he should have an accident and break around his prosthesis, it can be a real problem. People play pro sports with prosthesis so they can handle abuse, but he has to be willing to accept some extra risk. Flying a lightly loaded canopy will always be a good idea. Also the tandem slide is an excellent idea. Hope he makes the choice that is right for him and doesn't look back.
-
How old is the Neptune. Someone had a similar problem at my DZ, I test jumped it and noticed it did exactly what your are describing just prior to throw out. It had dated software and a quick update corrected the problem. If you have a neptune rep at your DZ ask them. If you send it in the Alti-2 people have great customer service and should get the problem fixed for you.

Sounds like it really hurts. Should get better in a few days. If it is getting harder to swallow, here's a few things to watch for: Unable to swallow liguids. It may hurt, that's ok but if you can't and are drooling because you can't swallow, you should be seen. A hollow staccato voice - called a "hot potato voice" Sounds like a high choppy voice. These are signs of a peritonsillar abscess which must be drained. If you have these, be seen. Otherwise give it a day or two, plenty of fluids, rest and antibiotics, and it should get better.

Hans - I like what you did with the bus! Also your little girl is growing up! Dr. Will -
I think of early am at the convention any time I hear that song. Even put it on my Ipod and while in Iraq that song would bring a smile to my face. I'm looking forward to next year and am confident that it will be back.

A concern Mother with many questions
bigorangemd replied to Comfortablynumb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The altitude should not be a problem for the length of time he would be exposed (assuming he does not have any acute respiratory illness at the time). Being just a little technical, but it helps the explaination - the partial pressure of oxygen at 14,000 ft. is 93. As long as it stays above 60, there should be no acute effects, again as long as his base line sat runs above 95-96% he should have enough reserve to tolerate a partial pressure in the 90's. The thing that would cause me to pause would be that most CF kids are severely underweight and there could be an issue with the harness fitting his legs. I would assume, however; that since he is 21 and still doing well, he is likely less affected by weight issues. Just check to make sure the harness fits well. Good luck, and I hope he enjoys it. -

Dave's is about mid-range for the true hot sauces. It runs about 500,000 Scollville units. A Scollville unit (s.u.) is the measure of how hot a pepper is. For comparison tobasco sauce has 5,000 s.u. A jalepeno - 8,000 s.u. Habeneros run 300-500,000 s.u. Police grade pepper spray - 5,000,000 s.u. Pure capsaician oil - 16,000,000 s.u. My favorite is called "World Sauce" - claiming to be the hottest - by the way they ALL claim to be the hottest. It runs 1,000,000 s.u. 2-3 drops in a bowl of chili is about right. Then there are a few out on the market now that are pure capsaician like "Blair's 16 million reserve sauce" One drop in an entire batch of chili means I have to eat the whole batch myself! I made a batch for a contest I called "10$ chili" - I would give 10$ to anyone who would eat a medicine cupful (1 tbsp). 2 people took me up on it and they both offered me double the money back if I could make the pain stop. Be careful with the pure extract sauces. Besides costing a lot "Blair's 16 million" sells for 250$ for 1 ml! If it touches skin it will cause 2nd degree burns and if not used to really hot sauces can cause broncospasm to the point you can't breathe (a very bad thing). So welcome to the world of hot sauces - they're great. It's best to start out mild as you have done and work up from there. Enjoy!
