  1. I don't know where you jump (and no I didn't check your profile), but I can't honestly say I've ever encountered that attitude. In Hazelton PA, just about anyone will jump with you at any given time, and advice/coach (once off student), and at times video is just a "shared"thing that occurs. My advice is, go find a new DZ. Perhaps this is why I have no desire to jump anywhere else. ignorance is not bliss
  2. If you want to see if you can give up alcohol for a month, you've just answered POSITIVE to a Cage quesiton to judge alcoholism. Sorry, but I will not be joining your quest. With fingers crossed, I'll be back in the states, and out of an alcohol free country before april, so I will imbide. ignorance is not bliss
  3. Thank you, I am very comfortable with cessna's, and it looks like a good site. Now, I just need to get back to the states, and have my chute waiting for me. Less then 25 days to go, and I'm stateside bound. ignorance is not bliss
  4. Thank you very much. Side note, I've wanted to get to the fingerlakes DZ, can you see both ends of the lakes from altitude? I grew up just south of ithaca, would like to jump just for the view once. ignorance is not bliss
  5. Hello, I am looking for a DZ near Ft. Benning. I will be demobing there this spring, and would like to get a few jumps in since I will be stranded there over a weekend. Any info would be great. Thank you. ignorance is not bliss

    Back Surgery

I can't say I've had it done, but I have done them on others. So, almost from personal experience. ignorance is not bliss

    Back Surgery

Kypoplasty is a very suscessful operation for an acute compression fx. ie occured less then 9 months ago. Pain relief is the number one reason to go thru with the procedure. The bone itself will have cement pressed into it. This will make the bone extremely stable. That being said, the vertabrae directly above or below ie T10 and T12 will have a higher probability of sustaining a subsequent compression. Complication rate is extremely low. Usually done as an overnight or in and out procedure. ignorance is not bliss
  8. I have never landed with the plane, but would fully expect to pay if. I am paying for the ride up, not to jump. How I land (with the plane or under a parachute) does not matter. That being said, I can't remember anyone other then a few tandems ever landing with the plane. I have witnessed jumps that pushed personal judgments though, and perhaps landing with the plane would have been smarter. But that is a personal judgement call per jumper. ignorance is not bliss
  9. To answer your question. Yes, it is only a cessna dropzone. We do formation flights with both cessna's up only a couple times a yr. to get an eight way or better. No, it is no cost for the series, but we do need to get it on video or seen by rater. And, no they have never charged for that attempt. But, keeping that in mind, we do need to ask, and be ready when they are not tied up with video or coaching. I personally feel the series is a good way to go. Like earier posted, someone could always be a base, or helped with others for the formation. Series is only your skill.... ignorance is not bliss
  10. After a few posts about licenses lately, I was wondering what percentage of people did the formation vs individual skills requirements to obtain their next step. Where I jump, they will only sign off for your next license IF you complete the individual skills on heading within the timeframe given. ignorance is not bliss
  11. wouldn't common sense dictate that water training should be required prior to doing water jumps? Or am I over thinking that issue. ignorance is not bliss
  12. After reading all the posts, one issue that nat is not adressing is that no mater how many bells/whislte's you put on a device, it is still only man made. And that means its inherently going to fail at some point, and not to be trusted as failproof. Even with all the "improvements" you want, you still need to realize its possible to fail, and there for you don't rely on it. I never have, nor never will rely on my cypress to get the canopy out for me. If it ever hapens, then I fucked up, plan and simple. ignorance is not bliss
  13. My question is this... why is an A licensed person able to perform water jumps, but not required to take the water training unless they want to proceed to the B license? That does not make sense to me. ignorance is not bliss
  14. You do not need to get the B or C, but you do need to fullfill the requirements for both in order to get a D. I never got the B because I qualified for the B, was able to do the night jumps at my DZ, and since I don't jump anywhere else, saw no reason for the B. I did get the C for personal goals. ignorance is not bliss
  15. I am relatively new here, but has there ever been a motion to have a skills test for allowed canopy size/style? We test out our skills for license's, but not for canopies. Maybe we should? We can't make night jumps without a B, need water training for B, but never is there a skills test other then accuracy for canopies. That wouldn't be too hard to enforce. Once above a certain skill level, your on your own to make your decisions? What do you think? ignorance is not bliss
  16. The points you raised show the info I did not mention. I am interested in obtaining my Pro Rating once eligible, as well as EVENTUALLY learning to swoop. Understand, I have no expectations to swooping for a few hundred more jumps. However, when that time comes, I want to already be on a canopy capable of that. I want to be fully comfortable with a canopy before becoming aggresive on said canopy. I jump at a small drop zone, two cessna's. I most always am either the first on the ground (I plan it that way) or open high and hang out till others are down. I avoid turns low, and usaully set up for straight in with some s turns to burn off distance if needed. ignorance is not bliss
  17. I appreciate all the feedback so far. I understand no one can give me "the answer". I was looking for other input to see if I am just ignoring, or missing another aspect to consider. And I am recieving that. Thank you for your inputs. ignorance is not bliss
  18. I am interested in downsizing by the end of this coming summer. I currently jump a sabre 170. I weight ~170. I have just over 300 jumps, expect to make another 100-150 before downsizing. I currently am able to do all the checks on the "downsizing" rec's. My question is, is going from a sabre 170 to a stilleto 150 unreasonable? Or should I consider going to a sabre 150, then a stilleto 150 later. Or would going to a stilleto 170 be another option. I am interested in the stilleto 150 but do not want to progress to fast, but nor do I want to "waste" money on an intermediate downsize if not really any benifit. Just looking for other points of view. Thanks. ignorance is not bliss
  19. I would have to agree with Rich. Don does alot of hop and pops. But I also see him strapped to tamdems just as frequently. And I might be wrong, but I think he's over 35,000 now. ignorance is not bliss
  20. I have my C, that is correct. I have landed dead center enough times that I easily got the 25. My instructor saw enough that he comfortably signed off. However, if you must know, this discussion started with another person attempting for a C. That person logged in her book if she was in the taret (which is ten meters) but did not log in how close to center she was. Now, she is looking thru her book and asked if she needed to restart at the beginning since she didn't mark distance from center. No where is my question did I say I didn't complete this part. I asked for clarification on how other dropzone recorded this. I aks a question, and I am given a question back as an answer? that was helpful. ignorance is not bliss
  21. At our dropzone the target is 10 meters, for the accuracy testing. does yours have a two meter target? I just have never seen that. ignorance is not bliss
  22. I was reading the SIMS, and it quote as part of the C requirements "c. landed within two meters of target center on 25 jumps " I was wondering, if this is indeed correct, and how many dropzones out there have a 2 meter target, or is this subjectivley open to the instructor willing to sign off on your accuracy? ignorance is not bliss
  23. your right, I would love it if my family was able to say once I died that "well it least he died doing something he hated" or " what a lame as boring way to die". The post your upset about did not say "died skydiving" just said that wanted to die doing something loved. Hell that could mean dying during sex.... you read way too much into it. ignorance is not bliss

    joke

A US Army soldier sat in a bar with his head in his hands having just finished his first day of Airborne training. His buddy sat down on the stool next to him and asked him what was the matter. "I just finished my first day in Airborne training and it didn't go too well", he sighed. "What happened?", his buddy asked. "Well, we got over the jump zone, the green light came on and we all hooked up to the jump line. We shuffled to the door and when it was my turn, I just froze. I couldn't jump." "What happened then?", his buddy asked, concerned. "Well the jump sargeant started yelling at me. He said, Boy, if you don't jump right now, I'm going to shove my fist up your ass!" "Did you jump?" "Well, a little at first" ignorance is not bliss
