The benefit of tunnel time with a coach...Priceless
jumpjunkie2004 replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in Wind Tunnels
It's not news that doing time in the tunnel is a bit expensive. Some of us can not afford to attend a coached tunnel camp, but want to do a small block of time. If you are planning a trip to the tunnel, I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a coach to go with you to maximize the benefit of your time there. I feel incredibly fortunate because I had an opportunity to spend time in the tunnel with Ron. Even before we got there, Ron was working for us. He was already overcommitted, but he got us in to the tunnel. I needed a coach that wouldn't get frustrated with me. With less than 9 minutes of freefall time, I've had very little practice. My time was booked in a block with a group of very experienced skydivers, and I was intimidated by this. I went to the tunnel because I wanted to develop some freefall confidence, and to learn skills that would be useful in obtaining my license. Basic stuff really. The other skydivers were there to work on some pretty advanced maneuvers. Ron met with me beforehand. We discussed how to enter the tunnel, body position, and our goals for the day. After the first session, we spent time debriefing before entering the tunnel for the second session. My first couple of minutes in the tunnel were challenging - remember your first skydive? It's not natural to be falling through the air. After I got used to being in the tunnel, Ron was able to work with me. He taught me to make subtle movements to adjust my body position. By the end of my second session, we were playing follow the leader. I was able to change my fall rate, control my heading, move forward and backward, make turns, and even do some side slides. What was the best part of my tunnel time? Sharing this experience with someone that enjoyed teaching me. Have you ever had a teacher that has all the right credentials, but didn't enjoy his work? It sucks. Ron has all the right stuff. He's talented, and he has people skills. If you have an opportunity to work with him, it will be worth every penny. I made an incredible amount of progress in a short period of time, and had fun too! I can't wait to go back. Hopefully next time, I'll be able to participate in a camp. If you'd like additional information about tunnel time with Ron, you can reach him by PM or E-Mail: Ron(at)Dropzone.com. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
I'm new. I've only got 9 jumps. I did some tunnel time on Sunday - a total of 30 minutes. It was plenty. I can't wait to go back! Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Hello...I'm an AFF student. I'm writing an online journal about my Quest to Become A Skydiver. http://x.mcintyres.net/jumpblog/?sectionid=12 On my second tandem jump, I had a high speed ass slide. http://x.mcintyres.net/jumpblog/?sectionid=15 On jump #7, I broke my ankle. http://x.mcintyres.net/jumpblog/?sectionid=19 I'm in the process of updating my journal and hope to get it up to date by the end of March. I went back and did jump 8 and also jump 9. If you'd like to know more, email me. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

If our government took away our right to bear arms, people would still be killing each other. They would just find another way to do it. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
My Quest to Become a Skydiver...

Z-hills was awesome. I had a relatively new AFF instructor. Her name was Laura. I believe that I was one of her first students. I'm not sure which, but probably less than 10. She was excellent. The DZ has a great landing area. One the way to the plane, we realized that my suit didn't have grips and I also realized that I didn't have on ankle braces...whoops.. Everything went well. I had an excellent time. I landing safely with absolutely no pain. Then I went to the tunnel time. No pain....no gain. My friend and I spent 30 minutes each in the tunnel. OMG...it was so much fun. I'm getting ready to add to my on line journal about the experience. It was incredible. Out tunnel coach was great. Thanks for asking about how it went!!! How close are you to MD? Hello Tayrn. I'm from Maryland - I'm working on my license also. I have only 8 jumps. This weekend, I'll be at Z-hills. I need to find out about the training program there coaches, etc. I haven't been cleared yet for self-supervision. I'm hoping to get over that hurdle at Z-hills. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Hello Ron! I'm very excited about our tunnel time and I've heard great things about you. Thanks for asking about my ankle. It's been six months since the injury and I'm just starting to run again. It's going to be a long road back to where I was "before". I've got a ton of arthritis - it was my fourth broken ankle...eek. I'll see you soon! We're going to have so much fun! Thanks Little One! I'm so excited. I wish I could fast forward time! Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Thanks for the 411. We've got a coach - his name is Ron. I hope we are able to get video - I didn't think to ask about that. I'm glad you responded to my post. I'll be sure to find out now! Have a nice week. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

I'm new to the sport - only 8 jumps so far. A friend of mine has made arrangements for an hour of Orlando tunnel time on March 20th - that's 30 minutes for each of us. I have 5 of 8 of my jumps on video and it seems I'm doing something funky when I leave the plane. Is this something we can work on at the tunnel? Any suggestions or recommendations? So...you're attractive and you can reel them in, but you can't keep them on the hook. Are these one night stands? If you sleep with someone the first night you meet them, maybe they have the wrong impression of your intentions. What exactly are your intentions? Isn't part of the fun the chase? Maybe you're too easy. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

My Quest to Become a Skydiver...

Thanks Jeth. I'll have to go to the mall and ride the escalator! I am fortunate that I did at least follow the directions about holding the toggles down. They told me that I would have broken both my legs (or worse) if I hadn't held on. I flared fast and hard at 25 feet. Learning the hard way Good luck to you! Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat... -
Hey TC...you'll get there!!! After we talked, I signed up to check out this website. Pretty cool. There's a ton of informaiton here! See you soon. Sarah Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

Congratulations Orange! Welcome to the forums. I'm new here as well. I've only got 8 jumps. The weather in my area hasn't been too cooperative and I broke my ankle on jump 7. That slowed me down a bit, but I'm ready to get back into the groove. Where do you jump? Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

It seems like our dz is a sexual place. I was just wondering what I could expect to encounter at various drop zones. I was wondering if the two go hand in hand. I didn't mean to offend anyone. Jump, Land, Pack, Repeat...

It seems like Orange has a reputation. After I started jumping there, I read the reviews. Being MWC (married with children), I don't know if I would have gone there if I had read the reviews first. I'm not opposed to nudity, but it isn't a big "selling" point for me. Now that I'm there, it's hard to imagine going anywhere else. The people at Orange are some of the nicest people I've ever met.
