Eric (Tonto) Stephenson - Goodbye my friend
Hagen replied to sangiro's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
No... I still have unanswered PM from him Condolences with his family and friends... -
here it is regulated by Parachuting Sports Federation - a kind of you USPA. but it does regulate dropzones' activities.
-
Looks like you live in the free world and I still in USSR - at our dropzoned AAD, helmets and visual altimeters are OBLIGATORY, and many of them require audible altimeters, too:)... maybe that is why I cannot accept the idea about AAD as smth optional...
-
I'd like it to be so... but yes, I'm a dreamer:)
-
these two usually jump RW/FF and swoop is only a part of their jumps. so I hardly can understand why they don't use Cypres Speed - it's not because of money for sure. that is why I have no other explanation except of their desire to look cool guys with steel... you know:)...
-
I changed the title of the topic 'cause, yes, I ask not about machismo but about 'normality' of jumping without AAD...
-
Well, it was a bit a surprise for me to find out the truth about the guys:). Here the common opinion says that AAD is a necessary thing (and they are obligatory at all dropzones in my country). That is why it's so interesting for me to hear other opinions as to necessity of an AAD for experienced jumpers at certain kinds of skydiving activities (maybe I should rename the topic:)...
-
I know at least two very experienced, cool, respected and so on skydivers who refuse to activate or use their AADs (Cypres). The both seem to be that Macho man kind of guys:). And, yes, they seem to be in perfect fit, they are self-confident - and the both swoop being pretty loaded... In all these circumstances - even though theu don't really know each other, and they live thousand miles far from each other - they say the same arguments while defending their position as to AAD: - I trust only myself, not some device; I swoop and the Cypres may fire unintentionally; I control everything, I jump with experienced guys, so something bad hardly can happen to me; if even something happens, my team mates will help me to deploy... By posting this, I don't want to hear bad opinions about these two men:) . Nope - they are not idiots, and maybe everything that they say is true... I just wonder how many men like these exist in the world?:) Are they all this macho-like type?:) And, if serious, is it common for very experienced skydivers to refuse from AADs? And do you think it makes any sense?..

smiler , I'm adult girl, so I'm not trying to overcome limits but I have big plans for the next season, and now I know what kind of jumps I'm going to make nearest time (that is tracking of course, with an instrictor, not just myself) by the way, it is possible that I'll be able to do this earlier than the next summer - somewhere in worm countries... what I want to say is thank you for your care, but I'm going to be very careful in this adventure -

Two stupid question to women experienced in wingsuit flying:)
Hagen replied to Hagen's topic in Wing Suit Flying
First is the following. I'm short (160 cm or 5'2" if I converted it right:). Will my flight in wingsuit be efficient? I mean that with my relatively small body area I obviously will have lower horizontal and faster vertical speed that some guy of average build. So, will I be able to fly effectively in groups with other guys? The second is, how difficult it is to fly it?:) I mean, it is well seen on videos that bird-men have to experience unusual loads on some parts of body - say, arms. Is it very difficult for women anatomy?:) And what exercises - or exercises for what body parts - should do a girl dreaming about flying in a wingsuit?:) I do understand that the questions are stupid:). But I have nobody here to ask them:(. Thanks for you understanding and replies;-). -
so who will be the first to land a wingsuite without a canopy?
-
thanks for your help:) now I only need to get to the wonderful country (in spring or summer time:)

Unfortunately, the links does not show any necessary info:( That's why I posted my question here in hope to find some Iceland skydiver able to give me more information:)
-
Can someone tell me is there any skydiving activity in Iceland? It seems to be a beautiful country, and I'm going to visit it, anf, of course, I would love to jump there... But not BASE!:) (a found some links about BASE jumping out there on this forum). Thank you for your answers:)

Canopy destruction/safe landing with reserve - Ukraine, April, 29
Hagen replied to Hagen's topic in Gear and Rigging
and that's what I learnt from the thread. As you can see from my profile, I'm just a beginner. And to me accidents like this seemed to be exceptional. But according to opinions I heard here they're not that impossible as I used to think (unfortinately). Anyway, I wait for some qualified expertise of the case because I still want to find out how to avoid such situations. Someone mentioned here that destruction like this happened even to a new canopy. So, how can we guarantee ourselves from buying rigs that may get just destroyed like this? I understand that my questions may sound quite naive. But I still hope to find some answers because I want to jump safely and for many years:) -

AMax, thanx for your 2 cents but the only intention I had while posting the information was just to show the community how things like this may happen. Actually, I try to watch as much skydiving video as I can but I've never seen anything like this yet (and hope not to see it again, even on video:). If you carefully review my posts, you'll see that I didn't mention any Andrey as well as didn't try to speculate. I just asked about experienced opinions on the case. And I thank everybody who gave them. As to the arguments between the owner and the dealer, I think it's only their business. However, personally I am curious about how the story will end. -
