    Night Jumps

yeah, jumping into Lebanon at night can be a little rough, but Mike Carpenter is sure to take care of everybody. I got out smack dab over the DZ. Lebanon has a bigger landing area than Peperrell though. Where do you jump??? Come on up one of these days. We started jumping full time last week and they got the Super Otter going. It took us under 11 minutes to get to 13,500 with a little over a half a load on board. The swooping pond is almost done too. Let me know if you want to come up... -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  2. Is there a website where I can get ordering info on these things??? I would like to see what kind of colors and what the cost difference there is between the monkeyfist and a hackey. I beleive that I was on a site that had this info, but my brain isnt working to well today...little help? -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

    Night Jumps

Definately a good thing. I love those...I only have one, but it was very memorable. I cant wait to pull off an RW night jump this year!!! Whooohooo!!! It is so peacefull & quiet up there in the sky...you can see lights for miles, even up here in the sticks. Beautiful. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  4. I have heard of people that do backwards CRW. Now that is whacked! It was really weird to steer the canopy...I dont know how they can do it. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  5. Its actually very easy to do...if you arent paying attention and you dont do a proper continuity check or 4 line check. At some point the main was removed from the risers (probably when the reserve was repacked) so when the main was re-attatched, it was probably still in the D-bag and the connector links were improperly labeled or not labeled at all...so when it was reconnected, it was put together facing backwards. So if you arent going to take the main out of the D-bag and repack it when you put it on the risers, you better be sure that you labeled the links properly. I got another tip from some of the people at the DZ. They say that you can intentionally put yourself in 1/2 a line twist so you are facing forwards again. I guess you can still steer using the toggles too. I had never heard of that and didnt even think of it at the time. Oh well, lesson learned and nobody got hurt. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  6. I have assembled and disassembled about 4 or 5 rigs so I know how to do a 4 line check. Tip:When you are dissasembling a main from the risers, get a piece of cardboard and label the connection links (front/right, front/left, rear/right, rear/left, right toggle, left toggle). This is good so when you do re-assemble the main...you know which ones are which and it is going to make it a hell of a lot easier to get it put back together. I actually got a 50% off certificate from Sun Path over the winter...so I ended up getting all the bells & whistles...the thing still cost me almost 1,400 bucks. I am sure that it will be well worth it, though. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  7. Yeah, I landed a Sabre 150 with rear risers. My usual rig is a 135...I probably would have chopped that one...At least it was a bigger canopy. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  8. Yeah, Its amazing how fast you can learn new skills if you have to... -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  9. I not going to divulge the names, but nobody was hurt and I know how it happened...we all learned from it and life goes on. Just thought I would share with you guys. It was something that I never thought I would have happen to me and I never really heard anybody tell me what to do if it should happen to me so I had to learn really quickly...cuz my life may have depended on it. I was just thinking that I didnt want to land in the trees backwards!!! If I couldnt find a landing area...I probably would have chopped it...but then again...if I couldnt find a landing area with a fully functioning main...I dont think that I would have been able to find one several hundred feet lower under a reserve. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  10. I know exactly what you are talking about...The only time I could get to jump with a real experienced skydiver was when there was no one else there that they could jump with. Its really frustrating that when you are a newbie...you are pretty much doing solos or jumping with other newbies. You tend not to learn as much, so I would recommend that you make use of those times when an experienced skydiver is willing to jump with you or, if you can afford it, pay for some coaching...it will be worth your money. You will get much better and then experienced skydivers will be more willing to jump with you because of your newly found skills. The alternative is to learn from watching newer skydivers which means that you may start picking up some bad habits. That really does suck, though...I remember thinking to myself "what the f*ck??? they only jump with me when they dont have anyone else to jump with???". Its a pretty rough way to start a skydiving career and it can be slow if you dont take advantage of the learning tools that are out there. It sucks but its the reality of skydiving life. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  11. Yep, got that name my first week on the DZ. It just stuck. I learned the majority of flying skills from searching and reading and listening. I learned it from Dan Poynter's "Skydivers Handbook", Dropzone.com and other websites have some pretty good info. I would recommend getting a copy or finding someone who has Skdive University's Theory of Basic Body Flight. You can check it out on www.skydiveu.com, it's a bit pricey ($99) but it has some really good information of how your body falls and how it spills air when you move your body. If you dont want to buy it, find someone who has it...or even better go to Skydive U and have them show you. It was the best investment I have ever made. I also learned by just hanging out on the DZ and talking theory with people that know...you can learn 90% of the information that you need to know on the ground. I started jumping on July 1, 2000 and I have been at the DZ every weekend since. I got 150 jumps now...thats kinda how I got my name. If there is a load going up...I am on it. The best way to learn something is to totally immerse yourself in it, kinda like going to a foriegn country...the best way to learn another language is to go live in that country. Keep asking questions...it is really in everybodys best interest to teach others. Its good for the experienced skydiver, the novice and the sport as a whole...its is going to push the sport farther and keep us all safe. Good for you that you asked these questions...keep em coming!!! FYI-most skydivers are very opinionated. You can ask the same question to 100 skydivers and get 100 different answers. Listen to them all and form your own opinion. Its you that you are responsible for, so you have to make your own decisions. Dont let any one theory force you to do something you dont want to do. Keep an open mind because the sport is changing all the time...there is always going to be something new so dont get stuck thinking that you know it all. I know I dont... -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  12. I had a bit of an interesting way to start the season this weekend. I am currently waiting to get my new Odyssey so I had to borrow gear so I could jump this weekend. I hate borrowing gear, but I had to get a jump in out of the new SuperOtter that we got. So when I dump the main...guess what? The freakin main was put on backwards!!! It took me a bit to realize exactly what happened. It was the oddest feeling...flying backwards...the p/c in front of you, toggles in the wrong spot. It was the last thing that I expected would happen. So I had a square canopy and it was functioning...so I decided to keep it. I knew that you could actually land it backwards...so I didnt feel like chopping the thing. Another problem...bad spot and I was going to have to land off-field. So I found a landing area, circled around it using what were my rear risers which were now my front risers to turn around. I didnt feel safe using toggles due to the crisper turns that they give. It came time to land so I just yanked on my rear/front risers and almost stood the thing up...ended up falling on my ass though. That was quite a memorable opening day for me. Pretty whacked, huh??? I wont be jumping borrowed gear anytime soon. That container cant arrive soon enough. 1st jump out of the new superotter, 1st off field landing in 2001, 1st time flying a canopy backwards, 1st biffed landing...at least I got a few beer calls out of the way in one shot... -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  13. Just imagine the whuffos that hear my name when I am called over the PA system at the DZ...pretty funny, especially cuz I am a guy. As far as that issue on moving towards the formation. Keep your arms nuetral the whole time...dont reach for the formation because you are going to be gaining surface area with your arms...drive with the legs. Have you ever jumped with someone that falls faster??? To speed up you can bring your arms into your chest so you are losing surface area...kinda the same concept. When you bring your arms out to dock on that faster faller...you are going to shoot right up. If your legs arent out driving your body...when you put your arms out to reach for the formation, you are going to backslide. Make sense??? -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  14. I have seen a 2 canopy BASE rig cutaway...it was pretty cool. Very fast. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

    BASE Jumping?

If you want to know more about BASE. Go to www.blincmagazine.com They dont rent BASE gear at Bridge Day. I will be heading down there this year and I am intending on using a buddy's gear. There is no-way that I would jump with my skydiving rig. My rig has a 135 Sabre in it, his BASE gear is a 240 Mojo. I have jumped it a couple of times before off a few bridges and there is no way in hell I would be able to sink my 135 into the landing area at NRGB. If you are going to go I would recommend finding someone who BASEs at your local DZ and speak to them about it. That bridge is immense, but I sure wouldnt want to have a p/c hesitation or a long snivel. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  16. Sounds like you may be reaching for the formation...that will send you back and may also send you up as well. I would recommend using more legs to move you into the formation. If your forward motion is based on bringing your arms back and you arent using your legs enough...when you go for the dock your arms will come out. Drive more with the legs and you should be good. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
  17. yeah, those guys are not only world class skydivers but world class people as well...I would recommend using a high quality VCR so you can slow down what they are doing. If you watch it in realtime speed, you can miss a bunch. Slow it down and watch their body positions in relation to the relative wind on the exit and their body movements after that. Its amazing! -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
