Do you want to go through as a student or do you want to be an instructor??? If you want to go through as a student, do it. It was the best investment that I have ever made. They teach you skills and they teach you the right way. You dont have to learn by trial and error or by watching others that may have bad habits. The instructors are great, too. Great skydivers and great people! If you want to become an instructor...that I dont know, but I hear that its really difficult. I read an article about the process in Parachutist or Skydiving and it seems as though many applicants do not graduate to become an instructor. Check out www.skydiveu.com or give Rob Laidlaw a call down in Sebastian. I am sure that he would be more than willing to answer any of your questions. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

corking is popping up on a formation. For example, say you are in a group doing some sitfly or headsdown and you screw up and get flat for some reason...you pop up like a rocket compared to the formation. The bad thing with this is that someone may be above you in some fashion and there is a possibility that you could hit them. That would be bad. Funneling is getting in someones burble. When you hit the burble you fall into them. Say that you are launching a 4 way exit and someone isnt presented in the relative wind, but instead they are right on top of a teammate. That causes you to fall into them, thus causing a mess. That person that you fell into may have a grip on someone and then it just dominoes from there. Everybody seems to fall into each other down the middle...and there you have it...a funnel. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

I remember reading some article about a family in the midwest...Iowa possibly??? where they owned the DZ and taught their kids to jump at a very early age...I think around 14 or so...but that is a whole different thing because they owned the DZ. I think that in some states, 16 year olds can jump with written permission from the parents and in some cases the parents have to attend the classes with the child. Sorry I couldnt be of more assistance...but they are out there. I think I saw the article in a Parachutist about 6 months or so ago. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

So did you buy beer or what??? We got one of those too. Its usually to protect spectators (it keeps whuffos and jumpers from colliding on landings) and people that are tenting out for the weekend... but seriously...did you buy the beer or what??? -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

The descriptions of these canopies are "two new crossbraced ultra-ellipticals, two different nine-cell cell ellipticals, as well as a new reserve canopy." Interesting... -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

I was reading in this months Parachutist about the new canopies that PA are supposed to be releasing. Has anyone heard any further information on these? PA is supposed to be having some new press releases towards the end of April. They have a canopy that is supposed to he considered "ultra-elliptical" and a few other canopies. Sounds interesting. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

I didnt know 118 was more than 282?!?!?! -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

Ever spiral yourself into nausea??? Could be a major issue with a fullface helmet on... -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

swooped a turtle once...pretty funny. It was just sitting there eating some grass and I came over the top of him and he just hid inside his shell. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

The beer that I consume most these days is Heineken, it seems to be the default beer at our DZ. My favorite drink is Ketel One or GreayGoos vodka & Red Bull or light rum, dark rum, 151 & Red Bull. I highly recommend Red Bull. It makes for a great mixer and can make some dangerous drinks!!! -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

Have you guys ever tried SamiKlaus??? Its brewed in Switzerland once a year and it sits for something ridiculous like 4 years before its shipped. It is in the Guinness book of world records as the world's highest alcohol beer. If you ever come across it, buy it. Its can taste particularly nasty (carbonated whiskey), but its a pretty fun beer to have on occasion. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

I think that its "recommended" that you stop drinking for 10 hours from bottle to throttle... -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

I got the chance to jump the safire a couple of times this weekend because I am still waiting to get my container from SunPath. By the way, does anyone know how SunPath ships their rigs??? UPS ground, next day air, or what??? Anyways, I had heard so much about the issues flaring this canopy and was anxiously awaiting landing this thing. I was jumping it loaded at about 1.1, and this thing was a really nice canopy!!! It opened quite smoothly, I didnt get whacked, no line twists...very comfortable. It flies quite nicely with minimal toggle pressure. It didnt oversteer, but I did notice that it dove considerably more than a Sabre. You may want to be a bit more aware of altitude while you are playing with this thing. Landings were great. the Canopy planes out quite nicely with minimal effort. I didnt quite notice a flaring issue. I thought that it landed much better than the Sabres that I have been jumping. If I didnt just buy a Sabre, I would have gotten a Safire! -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

Huh...I have just heard conflicting stories from some of those same teams plus a few other top teams. Maybe I just misunderstood them. Interesting information to consider. Thanks. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

I know that they make them too, but I am not sure where to get them as I am not a woman. But I did get weight pockets sewn into my rig...which is nice. Typically you can put them in the top or bottom of the rig...wherever you are going to need the extra fallrate. Another great thing is that you dont have to fool around with a vest...putting it on or taking it off all the time. Its a bit more comfortable. It cost me 80 bucks to get them installed, which is typically cheaper or comparable in price to a weight vest. Just a thought. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
-
Correct and that is why they wear weights. They are flying comfortably in their mid-range of flying capacity. So they wear weights to speed up the relative wind so they arent arching and tucking things in or back to speed it up. You lose controllability and efficiency if you are focussing all your attention on fall rate. Does that make sense? -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
-
Also you want to have the rear floaters fall off the plane while the front floaters launch further away from the plane so they can clear the rear jumpers. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
-
Example:stick your arm out the window of your car at 30 miles and hour and make a small move. Your arm doesnt move too quickly. If you speed up to 80 miles an hour, that same small move creates a bigger and faster action, right? Why is it that Airspeed, Sebastian XL & Generation FX wear weights??? It just makes sense to me that the faster you are going down, the easier and faster your movements will be. Toughts? -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

Yeah, sensationalism at its best or worst, whatever way you want to look at it. I dont support or condone ignorant journalism, but I think that I understand it...for the non-jumping public...falling 13,500 is the equivalent to being eaten alive by a shark. Its a primative fear that most people have. I kinda understand it, but f*ck 'em...they never bought me a beer and probably never will. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
-
weid14, I thought that 4 way teams wanted to fall faster for control reasons. The groups that I have been jumping with are falling around 124 to 129...and I am going to be getting weights. I weight about 135-140 depending how much beer and pizza I consumed the night before. I thought that the more relative wind, the quicker and easier you can control your turns, etc. Thoughts anyone??? -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

Yeah, its funny when the DZ calls out the name over the PA...and then they see me...funny. People just tend to call me 'slut' sometimes. I think its easier and a little less pretentious. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

I wouldnt come out of hiding just yet...I am sure that you are going to catch some flak soon enough...I for one think it was hysterical! -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

Greg, That is a RIOT!!! Now, thats comedy!!! As for me, I spent a week at the DZ for AFF. I graduated the 10 level course in 3 days and made 25 jumps that week. They have been calling me SkySlut since the 3rd or 4th day. If there is a load up, I am usually on it. I have probably missed 1 or 2 weekends at the DZ since, even if there is 3 feet of snow on the ground. I am just an allaround SkyWhore. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"

Have you ever seen someone bleeding in freefall. It is pretty odd. A buddy of mine got a bloody nose...till this day we still arent exactly sure what happened. He didnt get kicked or hit with anything, but the I was across the formation and you could see it splattering all over his goggles & helmet & in the air. It was interesting to say the least. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
-
That is typically what is done on our DZ too. What we figured out last night was that they were doing that funky exit order (students first) out of a cessna, not out of an Otter so the number of people in the sky isnt as great and there is going to be much more vertical and horizontal separation because of the plane. -Slut "I'll jump anything!"
