  1. Well there has always been some sort of connection with ravens and death...I am not sure why, other than them being all black, but I wonder where else this comes from. Edgar Allen Poe wrote about it in the "Raven"...I wonder what other cultures this comes from...
  2. I can ask him about the baglock...they are up in xkeys right now, but should be back in the next week or two, I think. I guess they really like them, but I know that the Norgies specifically asked for a traditional bag when they got their new rigs. I havent been to Deland in a while, but I am sure that someone could ask them or I will ask Lise when I see her next. I remember her saying that she just didnt like them...I didnt get into details on why she didnt like them though...maybe things have changed since they have been out for a while now.
  3. I did a 10 jump program in 3 days...Its usually not a problem unless you get into some really shitty weather. Most DZs wont let you do more than 4 jumps in a day though...some keep it to 3 because it can be a bit much for a student to do so many jumps in one day. It can be a bit overwhelming and your performance can begin to degrade as you get more physically, emotionally exhausted....good luck.
  4. Yo punky...here is some more discussion on this topic... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=350517#350517 Kinda odd that for such a ground breaking idea, that this "company" wouldnt know how to spell Deland Majik properly...
  5. There is absolutely no way that anyone can either skip or pencil whip...the only way I could think that someone would is to quit jumping there...If you want to get your A license at SNE, they it is mandatory. A SNE instructor will not sign off an A license candidate unless it has been noted on the A license card that they have attended the seminar. The card needs to be signed by the instructor that gave the course. We also find that many post A license jumpers attend. Its a weird bonding thing with newer jumpers and older jumpers. Pretty cool actually. Feel free to PM me with any other questions!
  6. On top of using the ISP, Skydive New England has a canopy control seminar that is mandatory for all people looking to get their A license. Its a couple of hours long, it goes until everyone has their questions answered anyways. They usually have them every friday night and its pretty informal, pizza, etc. I thought that was a really good thing.
  7. I didnt know that a Spectre was considered an elliptical... Anyways...I had about 209 jumps when I got my first Stiletto...loaded at about 1.2. As far a going to an elliptical, I would also take a look at your ability to consistancy to flare evenly. One of the biggest things that I see people do is flare unevenly and turn themselves into the ground. This can be more of a serious problem when you start getting into ellipticals. Most people dont realize that they even do it...it really helps to have someone film your landings so you can see what your hands are really doing while you flare. Most people chalk up a crappy landing to a "gust"...when in actuality it is themselves that fly their canopy that way.
  8. My g/f just took a job at a hospice (where terminally ill people go to spend the last days of their life) and there is a weird thing that happens just before and during someone passing on. Crows show up at their window...usually about 4 of them. Once they have passed away, they fly off. The rest of the staff say that this is quite common and they can usually tell which patient is going to go next and when by where the crows show up. Is that bizarre or what? Then I was thinking about the fatality that we had at SNE last year and the DZ owners g/f who is a bit on the supersticious side made note of several crows hanging out the day of and after our friend passed away from a low turn. Just thought that was interesting...
  9. Note of Caution:Possibility of a linedump increases!!! It has worked for me, though...consistancy is the key. I know that I put that note in the previous post, but I think it is important enough to reiterate it.
  10. I have worked with Dr. John DeRosalia...He is great as well. He has a book out that I would recommend everyone to read. I have lent it out 3 times and have yet to get my copy back. I have had to get new copies. Its called "Mental Training for Skydiving and Life". Its a great book. He works with all the best RW teams. XL, Airspeed, FX at the time, Golden Knights, etc. Good stuff and thanks for the post!!!
  11. I also had a 3 grommet bag...I stopped using the middle grommet and used the two outside ones. That seems to help as well.
  12. The reason that I ask is that inconsistancies in rubber band size and strength of the stow can cause line twists. I would recommend getting the same size rubber bands and try to make sure that the length of the bites are the same. How small is quite small anyways??? 2 to 3 inches is recommended, I used to get linetwists quite a bit, then I shortened my bites to 1 to 2 inches and I havent had a problem since...but keep in mind that you are running a risk of linedump with shorter stows especially if they are loose. Without seeing what you are doing its tough to tell. I would try to get your stows as uniform as possible and see what happens...ask someone you respect and trust to take a look at your setup.
  13. How big are the bites that you are taking with your line stows and how tight are the stows??? Are you using the same size rubber bands for each stow???
  14. Ah, you are correct sir...
  15. Some Simpsons quotes... "Alcohol, the cause of and solution to all of lifes problems." - Beer Baron episode "Do you drink alone?" -"Does God count?" -Homers drinking problem episode "That man just took six Silver Bullets for me!" - Homer sobers up and takes helicopter lessons "Where did you score the hooch, rummy?" -Beer Baron episode "Thanks, Pinky, you have always been there for when I needed you" - Homer sets the town out on a mushroom trip episode The list goes on and on and on and on and on...Man, I love that show.
  16. I would suggest at least going to the student camp next week...you may not be able to physically participate, but you can mentally participate...that is if you are off the painkillers. I have learned more on the ground watching and listening that I have in the air. Its a very valuable resource and it doesnt cost anything to listen.

    plane tickets

I usually use www.travelocity.com or www.orbitz.com. I know that there are some other ones like cheapflights or cheaptickets or something to that effect. www.priceline.com can be helpfull as well if you dont mind flying out at shitty times of the day. I have also found that you can always change the return flight at the airport when you are leaving for no charge, but you can not change it with priceline. Good luck.
  18. Is that kinda like the old addage that you shouldnt drive a brand new car more than 40 mph for the first 100 miles or so???
  19. A lot of people go with the Havoc exactly because of the situation that you are describing. They dont want prescription goggles and it is tough to find a helmet that you can wear regulare glasses with, especially if you have a big melon. I would recommend trying a z1 or an oxygen to see if you can comfortably wear them with your glasses on. I find that those are better helmets in general, but if you dont have any other choices go with a Havok. If you are going to be doing a lot of RW, you will wish you had a fullface when you get kicked in the face. Other than that, I think that they are quite ugly, but they do serve their purpose. I guess its better to have an ugly helmet than have a ugly face after a hit in freefall.
  20. One of my favorite quotes about swoopers..."There is a fine line between a hot-dog and a weiner!"
  21. Hey, If you see Greg Macbeth up there tell him I said hello!!!!
  22. Sebastian has a great view!!! I am in Sebastian daily, so come see me. FYI, Sebastian opens at 9 am during the summer and they are closed on tuesdays...just so you know. 12 days should be fine, unless we get a hurricaine or just some shitluck with weather. Otherwise you should have no problems.
  23. well...I have been fortunate enough to have them all at one point or another, I guess. -I started out with lots of money...so I was able to get some quality coaching. SDU w/ Pete Allum.(see #3) -Then I quit my job...so then I was eating pasta for a year or so and I am still doing so on occasion because I have learned to like it so much.
