its a good rant. When was the last time that a scuba diving organization tried to pull someones scuba liscense for conduct unbecoming of a scuba diver????? Thats right people the USPA owns our sport. this one single group of people can raise havoc in your life and try to stop you from ever skydiving if they simply disagree with you. Sorry but thats BS. Skydiving does not need police. I prefer freedom to conduct my skydives as i see fit. As long as i'm within the LAW. Dont get me wrong ...nothing bad about the USPA laying out some guidelines and recommendations. Nothing wrong with structuring training programs. But this "disciplinary" action crap seems a little out of hand. I really cant believe they sent someone a letter saying that this person was guilty of conduct unbecoming of a skydiver. The last time i checked the USPA was not a branch of the armed forces. What the hell is conduct unbecoming of a skydiver?? You arent suppose to scuba dive without a buddy. But if i choose to do so the liscensing organization isnt going to come strip me of my membership and liscense. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down

I sport sunglasses (gatorz brand) but only because I have prescriptions. I despise messing with contacts. Its also nice to be able to land and still just have your sunglasses on. dont have to keep up with goggles or swap your goggles for sunglasses on the ground. HOwever If I had perfect vision I would probably be rocking the flex Z minis. I too think they are the baddest mofo goggles in the sky. Its what i wore when i had contacts. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down

Serious issues breathing last few jumps
fincher replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
sometimes as the day proceeds I stop having trouble. I dont know if I get used to it or what? But the first jump of the day I almost always have a little trouble. good luck with it. If you discover any new tricks about it let me know. Like I said you can also try to control your breathing to keep from gasping i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down -
Serious issues breathing last few jumps
fincher replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
well its not that you are just simply holding your breath. I have this problem on a regular basis. I'm not sure what the real cause is or why some people have it and some dont. Sometimes tandem students have the same problem. Here are a couple of things i have found out about it and tried. 1. It happens to me alot more in the winter than summer. My guess is that the air is so much colder that it is shocking my lungs much more extremely. Also I have more sinus trouble in the winter. Anything that is effecting the efficiency of your lungs is bound to be a contributing factor to this. If I wear a balclava over my mouth it greatly reduces the chance of this happening to me. This tells me that it is primarily the shock of the cold air hitting my lungs and face. Kind of like jumping into cold water. It takes your breathe. 2. Sounds silly but I find that if you exhale on exit it helps. That way you arent starting the skydive with a big gasp of cold. The best way to exhale on exit is to let out a little scream. My theory is that by the time you inhale your body is a little acclimated to the temp. 3. I've also tried breathing through my nose and keeping my mouth closed. Sometimes this works for me. I guess because the volume of Cold air that I take in through my nose is way less than what I breathe in through my mouth. Since it happened as soon as you exposed your face to the wind. I would say thats its definately the cold water effect. Try screaming then taking in a slow breathe NOT GASPING. it works for me i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down -
on modern gear I would definately say on climbout. Probably due to lack of pin/gear check on plane. Or a snag on climbout. If the gear is in proper form there is not much of a chance of a pemature in freefall outside of physical contact. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down

in response to the recent record attempt in florida. A Tn. dropzone hosted another record attempt this weekend. It was being planned secretly in an attempt to ambush the record. The record was set by World renowned Tandem instructor, Tandem Cowboy. Cowboy did 116 tandems in 24hrs. This record was slightly different though. It was done with 116 different passengers. Preparation for this was done using natural sleep patterns (no ambien). The event was sponsored by Pass-thru productions. Their cameramen and producers were on site the whole time shooting a documentary based off this event. congrats to the whole team for the underground effort, preparation, and completion of this task i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down -

Fundraiser boogie a scam at Adventure Skydiving Tn."
fincher replied to Jumpdude's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thank you billy for pointing out that the HS was not used in the myspace bulletins depicting cats infected with aids. THe only thing not accurate in your post is the part about donating money. The person responsible for getting the shirts had full intentions of donating the profits for the shirts to the HS. This person has connections with a printing company and could get the shirts relatively cheap. Unfortuneatly due to some personal problems he was unable to follow up on the shirts for several months. The DZ staff tried to find printers that could do the shirts for less than the 20 dollars that they charged for them. Due to the small number of orders, the graphics on the shirt were undoable at that price. therefore the money couldnt be donated to the HS yet. For a while it looked like we might have to give back the money we collected for the shirts. Finally our t-shirt connection came through. We sold about 30 shirts and profited close to 4 dollars a shirt. The money was donated as soon as the shirts were delivered. We have all the emails to prove this chain of events. the boogie was not a fundraiser and was not billed that way. It was for catAIDS awareness. The donation to the HS was just a friendly gesture. Unforuntetly our jealous out of business competitors in the area had already sold the HS on a bunch of lies about us before we were able to donate the money. Including several outright lies and falsehoods. Can you believe that they even told the HS that we were dropping cats out of the airplane? RIDICULOUS!!!!! Basically jumpdude and his friends screwed the HS out of a 100 dollar donation and whatever money we would have made from t-shirts in the years to come by convincing them to reject the donation based off false information. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down -
the title was misleading. The article wasnt nearly as gay as I expected it would be. However, that picture of goober boy used to tease the article was totally gay. why does he have his goggles on? and its really dark for those goggles. And why is he making a mathematical sign with his hand. It looks like he is saying his head is greater than the sky. Or whatever is to the left. I guess his head is pretty big if he thinks he looks cool wearing his goggles on the ground and signing math anyway.....super gay pic i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down

how many sigma tm's clear risers in event of bag lock?
fincher replied to skydiveoc's topic in Tandem Skydiving
ok, I'm going to chime in here with my experience with this. I feel this is a worth while thread. I had a baglock on a IAF jump with the student pulling. I will no longer give the student much leeway for pulling. I will be dumping it at 5.5 myself. He is not getting till 5 to pull and there is no way im going to 4500 myself. here is what happened. The student fumbled around and pulled. I felt the trap door 2-3 seconds nothing. I initiate ep's. cutaway then reach reserve. As i reach for reserve i can see out of corner of eye that left side riser is clear. I never checked the right. I was only focused on getting the reserve out. By this time we were above 160mph according to my alti. I pull reserve. It opens in typical rock and roll style. About that time I feel something bounce off my foot. I look down to see that lines from the still connected right riser have wrapped on my foot. with main trailing still in the bag. Right side then disconnects but does not free my foot. Now the main begins partially snaking out of one corner of a partially open D-bag. The pressure on my leg and hip was torture. I was becoming a human wishbone. A hook knife was useless. I would have needed a 3 foot long handle to reach those lines on my foot. I tried to pull hard against it to slip my shoe hoping that the lines would slip off with it. But the shoe was cinched down tight. I landed uneventful and very softly with a nice head wind. But if that main would have inflated it would be game over. However if the main did inflate it probably would have pulled my shoe off and freed me of the lines. By the time I landed I had almost slipped free. None the less I dont care to ever try it again to find out. Bottom line. PULL HIGH! and CLEAR BOTH RISERS. if you are low then CLEAR BOTH RISERS. Dont be afraid of a cypres fire. Rather have a clear reserve by cypres than a entangled conglomerate of death by a manual reserve deployment. I took for granted that the right side cleared. learn from my mistake. I was purely focused on getting a canopy out, which is a normal reaction and probably the most natural one. SO really visualize this scenario and train yourself mentally for it. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down -
I would recommend this DZ. It is as good and safe as any other DZ in georgia. The review before this one is obviously not someone making a first jump. They know way to much about skydiving and is obviously someone that works at a competing DZ and has a beef with the people at ASC. I'm sure its something stupid. THere is a intense rivalry between two local DZ's. I'm sure this is the motivation for that review. Its true that kritter might try to remove all the water from the pond with his body. But unfortuneatly at the other DZ they use another method for removing water. Its called the displacement method. They displace the water with dead bodies of students that they neglegently drowned while they were drunk partying. Its a fun DZ also and they skydive safe enough. But if you plan to stay the night I would take a life preserver and use the buddy system. On the bright side they refunded the dead guy his money but unfortuneatly they couldnt refund him his future.

good point! just because it wasnt made for it doesnt mean it wont do it, for a while at least. while we are mentioning it Im not sure that the door on a porter was meant to be opened in flight either but its damn sure done. And I know they have fallen off! This thread is a perfect example of how we all live in glass houses. If everybody just minded thier own business the world would be great. Where ever there is fun, there is some asshole trying to stop it. Even if it doesnt effect them. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down -
i seriously doubt that a helmet would have helped in that freefall collision. especially a frap hat. I'm not yet convinced those things offer any real protection. Just as most skydiving helmets dont. they will protect a TM from risers burning your ears. And from scratching your head on the door during exit. they will hold a dyter (if you use one for a tandem). they will keep your head a little warmer on cold days. They will keep a students hair out of the three rings. They will help hold goggles on. any other uses? anybody? protection from a frap or thin shell helmet.......Not worth a damn for a collision or hard impact. I guess they might soak up some of the blood. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down

america....land of the free? or home of the brave enough to act like it? those guys jumping base rigs from thier own private chopper should be no concern of anybodies. No one on the ground was in danger. If they tear up a skid then that is there own problem. Not mine. ( I know its the law) but why you guys have to harp on that? everybody is just jealous that they dont have the money or lifestyle to allow them to have that much fun. i'll huff and I'll puff and I'll burn your packing tent down
