Because it says so in the patriot act?
-
And for an example of why this isn't totally racially based (and why MacArthur was such a bastard), see the Bonus March.
-
Actually for the first time. He was told to appologize to McNabb, Reid, the team and the fans. He refused. They told him he's done. THEN he appologized. Too little too late.

If so, it'll most likely be for a lot less than the 47million he's bitching about in Philly. He put his house up for sale a few weeks ago. I was thinking about bidding on it, but figured if we made a deal he'd just try to back out the next day anyway.

As in most things, it usually takes a chain of events. Just like a skydiving incident. Several links in the chain toward all out race riots in the US have existed for a long time. Hopefully somehow we can destroy some of those links before it's too late.

It's simply not like that in the US either. Yes, there are the "poor me" people that have a home, a car, and health insurance. But the bigger issue is that 12.7% of this nation is below the poverty line. And the poverty line is ridiculously low. Poverty Line Family size Total Income 1................9,570 2...............12,830 3...............16,090 4...............19,350 That's one out of every 8 people in this country.

I can't believe I indepently came up with the same thought as a guy named sudsyfist. I need to go home now.

40 years later, and still no great effort has been made.

No, I don't think it's ok, but I also don't think that it's the place of the courts to make a determination. The parents should take it up with the school board. This quote in particular is bogus: "The 9th Circuit did more than rule against parents who were upset that their elementary-school-aged children were being asked explicit questions about sex in class. They told all parents they have no right to protest what public schools tell their children." Bull shit. They have plenty of right to protest and to remove the school board members by whatever meanst at their disposal. They don't have the right to use the courts to push their political agenda. That's called judicial activism, something I've seen you complain about.

No, you obviously don't. What you fail to realize though is that this isn't a typical internet message board. Many of the people on here know each other in person. Many skydivers travel to each others dropzones and stay in each others houses. I remember the days when there were less than a hundred people on here (in the days of the OLD board). If you really are an active skydiver, I guarantee that someone will know you personally that also knows someone you piss off. This is NOT an anonymous board. You might want to keep that in mind.

They have happened...the Rodney King riots were sparked by a jury verdict but the real motivation behind the spread of it was poverty, and marginalization. Remember...they were riots in more than a dozen cities, not just LA. They will probably happen again given the right spark. edit - damn you MR2 and rasmack

Next Four Years: no policy is too right-wing
ReBirth replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
What checks are those? The republican house or republican senate? The fact that GWB has still not vetoed a SINGLE BILL...the first president in history to be able to claim that he didn't veto anything during an entire term, now going on two, is evidence enough that the checks are lacking these days. -
Well..the democrat replaced in NJ, was himself the temp governor after the gay-pay-to-play scandal in NJ. Not to mention that Forrsters campaign hinged on getting Corzine's ex-wife to say in a commercial "John Corzine let his family down, he'll let NJ down, too." Typical sleazy politics. And VA is predominantly conservative and republican, but still elected a democratic governor.

Chicago plans High School for Black Males
ReBirth replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
The solution is a lot of things. The problem is a lot of things. No, it's not JUST race, it's not JUST , where they grew up, and it's not JUST the parents. It's all of those things and more. All of those issues need to be addressed. As much as "whitey" tries to ignore it, there is still racism in this country...I still can't fathom how people can deny that. -
Republican implosion has begun. They lost governorships in NJ and VA. 8 of the 9 School Board members in Dover PA that were pushing Intelligent Design have been removed by the voters. The GOP has swung the pendulum so far to the right, I hope it doesn't swing back too far the other way but rather ends up somewhere back in the middle again.

Chicago plans High School for Black Males
ReBirth replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
There are Black men and women living today who lived through the Jim Crowe laws and segregation. The civil war was ummmm...way less than 200 years ago, but anyway, the civil rights movement was 50 years ago. -

ummm...yeah...I do trust the US gov't more than I trust Osama Bin Laden. You got me there...guess I should feel burned. You so crazy. -
Yeah...I was actually friends with a group of JWs in high school. They used to sit together at lunch and noone else hung out with them. I knew a couple of them outside of school as neighbors and I'd have lunch and hang out with them. Obviously they're not evangelizing all the time. I was referring to the guys who come around knocking on your door trying to convert you. My friends weren't trying to convert me, but one time they showed up at our door with their parents wanting to. Funny side story....My Dad was a spiritual Christian but not into organized religion. One day some 7th Day Adventists came to the door preaching. Their deal is something about only 144,000 pure soles getting into heaven or something like that. They were preaching that to my pop and he responded, "If there's a limit on how many people get into heaven, what are you doing recruiting, you're just ruining your own chances!"
-
That's a great response. If that doesn't work, than I don't think rationaly discussion is possible.
-
The school system involved gave sex surveys to 1st, 3rd and 5th graders, the parents were not told in advance. Do liberals really think that's right? Hmmm...I didn't see anything about that, but I may have missed it. If the school actually did ask detailed sex questions of 1st graders without parental permission. than I, as a liberal, am not ok with that. But I didn't see that anywhere. If the questions were worded in such a way that the children wouldn't know what they were being asked, unless already exposed to it, then I'm ok with it.
-
You like your guys bald down there? That's a little freaky..no? (and a little gay...not that there's anything wrong with that....wait...yes there is.)
-
Very true, Jimbo....but....I've never been able to have a rational discussion with a "born again" Christian. Catholics, lutherans, no problem...once that "born again" label hits the scene, my experience has been that they are on a mission to convert you whether you like it or not. Think Jehovah's Witness or 7th Day Adventist.

Call an electronics recycling place to dispose of it properly so that the silicon and other dangerous elements don't pollute the environment.
