  1. DES, Just wondering. Sony.jp says HD movies recorded on a memory stick via SR11/12 cannot be played on CX7. Sounds like they are talking about movies directly recorded onto a memory stick and movies transfered from the hard drive to a memory stick. Do you know if this is true the other way? I mean CX7 to SR11/12. We don't know this yet, but say SR11/12 can transfer movies from a memory stick to HDD, would this be limited to transfers among same models? The site says, CX7: XP mode 15Mbps HQ mode 9Mbps SR11/12 FH mode 16Mbps HQ mode 9Mbps
  2. That's really strange. Perhaps you should ask here. http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1194
  3. Arvel, That would be fantastic, wouldn't it. Wow, I hope it would transfer both ways.
  4. Good and Bad. The worst is that you can't do slow motion, reversed video and fast motion. Apple's solution is that they give you free download for imovie 6, and suggest you to do those effects in imovie 6 and import video to new imovie. They also lowered the price for final cut express from $299-$199. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMovie I looked for those effects for a day, wasted time, because I thought no one in right mind would take these features out of. But that's that. The new (good) features are shown here. I never used old imovie so I don't know what got improved. http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/ Others suggested different solution to above. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1285062&tstart=0
  5. Nice picture. By the way, what lens gives you 24mm at f2? I am not so familiar with nikon mounts. Is this the old nikkor manual lens?
  6. I see! What an idiot I am. So my question was: would sony produce a semipro camcorder (under 3K) using the memory stick pro duo? and smaller than FX7. As always, thanks for your quick answer.
  7. So do you have both Vista and Leopard on your MacBook Pro? Or do you have Vegas on some other work station/lap top? Just curious. By the way... do Final Cut Pro/Express treat AVCHD differently than Vegas? I am asking a vague question but I do not know enough to compose the right question. A few weeks back FreeFlyDrew started a thread titled "Burning AVCHD to DVD: Any info." http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3028274;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread In this thread I asked him: "Does iMovie import AVCHD, and then changes the format?" He said yes. (He said he is using Final Cut Express 4, so I believe this question does not just apply to the iMovie). What does this mean? Do imovie/final cut change the footage from mpeg4 AVC/H.264 to mpeg2 or some thing else? How do we archive footage form CX7, keeping the original HD, using mac software? Vegas Pro's spec says: Sony AVCHD support read/write. what do they mean? Can you upload AVCHD and archive them on to HDV? Unrelated to this thread, but do we ever see a semipro AVCHD camcorder? Like say equivalent to FX7/V1. Not s by s.
  8. The “sort by date” is a pretty neat option. Let’s say a part of my tape has my footages for the entire weekend and I didn’t have time to Firewire other skydiver’s footages at the end of the weekend. I finally get these footages a few weeks later on the same tape, but I have recorded other jumps between these events. Or let’s say I taped over some part of last year’s footage to record this year’s jumps, so jumps recorded on the same tape are not in chronological order. The iMovie’s “sort by date” option actually sorts all these footages by the date they were captured in the different files by the year. I use regular Sony tapes (premium and excellence), not the ones with memory chips. I thought iMovie is quite smart. But I don’t have any experience in using other economical video editing software, so perhaps this is not that amazing…
  9. I have the new one with 2.2Gh and 2GB memory. Which part is blazing fast to you? The uploading the tape takes 60 min for 60 min footage. It does not take you 3-7 min (I think mine takes more some time) for your iMovie to archive it? Are you using the manual or auto mode? Are you using the sort by date option? This part takes long time, I think. I think it is pretty fast to anything after that. Thanks.
  10. After you upload a 60 min tape (takes 60 min), it takes at least 3-7 min to finalize and archive the footage. I have 2GB also. Using iMovie.
  11. I see... Well hopefully iDVD will support Blue-Ray in the near future. Nothing related, but I noticed something interesting, assuming www.sonybiz.net is an official sony site. Their new solid state pro camcorder is somehow hooked up to a Mac Book Pro on their add site. http://www.sonybiz.net/biz/view/ShowProduct.action?product=PMW-EX1&site=biz_en_EU&pageType=Overview&imageType=Main&category=XDCAMCamcorders
  12. That suck. The MC3 was both stand alone and an external dvd burner for a computer. Do you know if we can still use MC5 as an external dvd burner if we use SD? Does iMovie import AVCHD, and then changes the format? Is that why we cannot output footage form Mac as HD to MC5? Sorry for lame questions. I am new to this non-liner stuff.
  13. Can we use imovie to edit and then burn on dvd connecting mac to MC5?
  14. This bothers me. From Sony: "Crystal Clear Still/Slow Motion Playback Digital video provides noise free playback in slow motion and in the pause mode for detailed playback. Available in Standard Definition only." Have the same slow-mo problem just like the HD camcorders have.

Hi. i have a question on M1. What does right side look like? is it just flat like the left side? i cant tell from the pictures that was taken from the left side, which is on thier web site. can a camera mounted on either side? does it have an audible compartment hump on the right side? Thanks.

  17. Off the subjet. but do you know anything about the topmount helmet michael mcgowan is using in these pictures? looks like it is made by the bonehead. it looks like a hybrid of the flat top pro and the optik illusion.
  18. Hi. What is "Velocity III"? I have seen it written that way on a warning label before with PN:VE0IIIP0I. See: http://coolcatinc.com/DSC09274.JPG from this guy’s gear sale web page. http://coolcatinc.com/Gear.htm Just curious.
  19. I suggest something else. I don’t think shortening bridle is going to solve the problem. I had the same issue and I know, it is annoying because it adds extra 2-3 min to packing time. You know the bridles are put together by putting two binding tapes together to make a hollow compartment for the kill line to slide back and forth (Examples of binding tapes include the material the pull up chord is made of). I used something thicker on one side of the bridle, and the best material for that is the square weave tape (Examples of that include the material that the toggles are made of), and the P/C does not spin up anymore. The bridle gets more rigid, so I guess that’s why it is less likely to spin up. But it adds tiny bit more packing volume. Try that. By the way they make these materials in black.
  20. You are absolutely right. That is all I need to know. The reason I asked is that he was the only one to post his experience with century 0.65 (37mm) converter on Sony HD camera (A1), and he expressed his dislike (quite strongly) for the converter on several threads in “Sony HVR-A1 and HDR-HC1/3/5/7” forum. But, I did more searching and I found the same sorts of comments in “Canon HV10 / HV20 HDV Camcorders” forum. Though they all only mention the resolving power of the lens (still pictures posted), none of them mention the color and flare resistant. I just wanted to know if he was a well known century hater or something.
  21. Hi Do you know Laurence Kingston on DVinfo.net? Are his information reliable? Just wondering if he was like you. meaning he makes living in Dv world.
  22. Hi. Have you had chance to play with the Schneider (Century) Optics converters? I am really interested to hear your pro’s opinion. Do you think they are far better than Raynox? (They are much more expensive.) I am thinking of ordering 0.65 wide angle converter lens for 37mm thread (HC7 etc). I was wondering if you could help me. By the way, I have Raynox HD5050 and HD3030; and Century 0.3 fisheye and 0.55 wide adaptors. I think Raynox is great for the money. Even though the cases are made out of plastics. Thanks.
  23. It sounds confusing. I can’t tell from what I see if it means: (a) there would be a delay (a blank spot) in the motion picture recording if still shots were taken simultaneously, or (b) there is a delay after the motion picture recording is stopped, if we took still pictures in that recoding session, so that the camcorder has time to write/move the still pictures saved and stored in a memory somewhere to the memory stick duo (i.e. there is a delay between the time we stop recording and the time we can start recoding again from the stand-by mode).
  24. I have not confirmed that HC7 actually does give a delay, but says so on Sony's Japanese web site. My Sony camcorder does give a delay, too.
