  2. I get "the bug" all the time. What I mean by this is the little twinge of excitement I can feel in my chest everytime I think of skydiving. It grows and grows during the week while I'm at work, doesn't even think about quitting on my way to the dz. And it really hits me as I'm getting into the plane before the jump. It's something I've noticed in all of the skydivers I've met so far. It comes across as a quite confidence and grows the closer and closer they get to the jump. It's just a really neat thing to watch! Thought I'd share that with you all! When do you get "the bug"? The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...

Here's an age old question for you all. What in the hell do you guys do for fun when you're not jumping? Once I started skydiving, everything else just got boring! The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...
  4. Ladies and gents, I have now hit double digits in my tandem jumps. ughhhhhh!!! Finally there will be some instructors available this weekend and I'll be able to get my aff stuff done! My last jump on Saturday was pretty uneventfull. I was working on basic maneuvers while the tandem master went into a neutral body position allowing me to take over the dive. Did a few turns, PPTs, COAs, etc... Waved off at 6k and pulled at 5500. Proceeded with my count and at five I noticed we had gotten closed end cells and a stuck slider. We fixed the problems, had an turbulence filled flight, and a pretty uneventfull landing. I just wanted to try to find out what exactly causes closed end cells, stuck sliders? It was interesting to see the slider stuck in the up position when there was really nothing holding it up there... I think the closed end cells were a result of the slider staying up but then again, I'm not sure. Just wondering if there's something about packing that'll cause this or if it just happens? -Ryan- Live free, fly fast, have fun. The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...
  5. I really enjoyed reading about the "Wings level" approach to canopy control. It was a lot to take in but I definetly got the jist of it. You brought a good question about that I didn't think about and I really need to find out before I land. - Where's the beginning, the "onramp" to my landing pattern? - Understandably, there is no exact point in which you have to be at. Different canopies are going to fly at faster or slower speeds depending on the lovely unpredictable winds that we all fly in however come 1200-1500 feet you really need to start your approach leg of your landing. Now, are you typically going to be starting your approach leg as soon as you reach your approach altitude (approx 1200-1500) and possibly spotting a different landing area than you expected to land at? Or do you continue to fly towards your pre-planned target and start your approach leg at a lower altitude? Better yet, what is the typical altitude that you need to make the final decision to either turn for your final leg or just ride out the canopy and land wherever the wind takes you? -Again, I understand that canopy size will vary this answer so I'm going to throw out a canopy size of about 210.- Ryan The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...
  6. I just recently completed my FJC but have yet to do my first few student jumps. I'm so excited and anxious!!! One of the things that I wanted to review is canopy work. Once I pull and count to 5 and make sure I'm fully open, I release brakes, do a brake/stall check, full 360 right and full 360 left turns. After this, I forgot what to do up until around 1500 feet when I start my approach leg. I understand I need to stay upwind of the dropzone, look for alternate landing areas just in case I get blown off course, and make sure I'm always checking my altitude but what else should I be looking for? Also, is there a general altitude where the upper winds usually change to the lower winds? The canopy part scares me the most out of the whole jump!!! 8. When you're initiating a turn, what should you be doing with your legs? What do you do with your hands if you use your feet and legs to turn? The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...
  9. We're almost home from deployment and I'm going to start my A license training! Would you guys recommend Skydive Taft or Skydive Santa Barbara? What's better? Give some pros and cons please!!! Thanks! Blue skies! The key to being a good teacher, is to be a good listener...

  11. Hey! I don't have a clue as to how to start looking for a rig!!! I'm starting out in skydiving once I get back from my deployment and I'm looking for a rig that I can learn with but also will allow me to progress. What are some good starter rigs/mains/reserves? What are some good/bad experiences with you previous/current rigs? What are some tips and tricks for getting sized for a rig. -By the way, I'd like to learn freefly and I've heard there's only a few really good rigs to use for that. True? I'm in the navy and currently deployed and looking to start getting my class A license as soon as I get back home to California!!! What do I need to know? Prices, gear, when should I invest in a rig, what rig is excellent for beginners but allows progression? LOL Ok I'll shut up now!!! Glad to meet all of you!
