#12(?) (I lost count-) THe shithook who HAS to cut you off where a two-lane necks down to one lane - (eeneR you know the type!!) Usually some yuppie MF in a Rover with a damn "baby on board" sign in the back window. OOPS! I forgot - Owning an overpriced P.O.S. gas-guzzling SUV not only allows you to BE AN ASSHOLE, but you can DRIVE LIKE AN ASSHOLE TOO! And I, Too, am an asshole! Just ask my kids, my ex-wife, my wife, anyone who works for/with me, well shit just ask anyone! I could get into a really good Dennis Leary rant right now! Easy Does It

I absolutely LOVE jumping with my daughter (Only it was I who introduced her to the sport - ) Have Fun! It'l be some of the best jumps you'll ever make! And yes - I think you will worry about him! Easy Does It

Finally I got a pic of MY wings - - To add - This is the container I ordered just before my accident, that came in a few days before the cast came off, and was assembled just before Safety Day, which was my first day back in the air. I've got a PD 160 reserve and a Spectre 170 in it. And a total of 8 jumps on the kit. My son Esau spent many hours picking out the colors and pattern. I think he did a pretty good job!

I was 95% recovered at least. I could spend my entire day on my feet at work, (I'm an industrial mechanic/electrcian) had gone through 6 weeks of physical therapy, and gotten a green light from both the therapist and the doc. - I also practiced hopping off the second and third steps at home, and didn't favor myslef much jumping off of forklifts and such.--- They did request I wear a brace at first, a McDavid level III. The first landing I had to "run" out (about four steps) actually felt GOOD! It's still a bit achey from time to time, and I feel the dampness and colder weather. Stick to your excercises! I busted tib and fib last November when I botched up a normal, straight-in landing. I'm now host to a plate and eight screws, and sat in a cast for six weeks, followed by P.T. etc. My first jump back was a hop-n-pop on Safety Day. I made eight jumps then got slammed by a hard opening, now I'm nursing some damaged ribcage parts. (Not related to the leg, but just the same - ) Trust me, you want to let things heal up before getting back in the air. There will always be another day to skydive. A little extra time healing now=Lots more time skydiving later. Helpful Hint - You can still put $$ on your account just like you were jumping, and then, when you do get back in the air, you'll be able to jump like a fool all weekend and then some! Easy Does It

I've always thought a name like Idiot Bastard Sons would be a cool name for a hardcore punk band. (In the Sex Pistols/ Clash genre-) Don't know about Adventure Racing - But a name like that, it would defintely draw at least a little attention, - eh? Just a little rubber biscuit to throw against the wall and see if it bounces back - - (Cuz' if it don't, then ya gotta go hungry!) Easy Does It

Gee, gas prices are much higher and for some strange reason the oil companies are posting all-time-record profits. God forbid they sacrifice that profit to lower prices for consumers, though. (Just like the drug companies, gotta keep the shareholders happy!) Good thing, is, I'll be riding my motorbike to work and such much more often. I get about 40-50 MPG out of the Sporty. I guess that's sort of a silver lining - Easy Does It

Exactly. Starting out on a 250 isn't a bad idea, but I wouldn't buy a new one. You'd outgrow it soooo fast. Think back, how many of us (myself included-) started out on 5 horsepower mini-bikes as our first powered cycle? Easy Does It

Boxer-briefs here - Silk boxers with a suit, and quite often full commando in the summer. Easy Does It

FWIW - - I've been riding a Sportster for over five years now - - enough to learn that - I never bothered to get a motorcycle license as a kid, and took my road test on the same Sporty I have now. No sweat. Most Sportsters do have a high CG - The 883 and 1200 Custom, (which I ride-) though, come from the factory lowered about 2 inches, and it makes a big difference. They also come stock with drag bars and forward controls. Comfy and it looks cool. They can be as loud or quiet as you like - All depends in the pipe/muffler set up. Reliablilty - I have had no issues whatsoever. I work on my bike alot when I want to, not because I have to. They will vibrate like a sumbitch at certain speeds/ RPMs = Shift gears or crank the throttle to compensate. I guess the new models are rubber mounted, which might take a bit of the sting out of the ride. Sportsters are definitely not a long-haul bike by any means. If you're going to burn more tha a tankful in one long run, you'll probably feel it by the end of the day. But I know guys ride Sporties from New Jersey to Sturgis and back. Pretty tough hombres for sure. You can learn on a Sportster then build it enough to keep up with, and even smoke alot of the bigger V-twins out there. There's a ton of stuff out there to bolt-on. They're a (reletively speaking) low-weight bike, and if you start with an 883 and build it out past 1200, you get the advantage of a tranny that was built with lower gear ratios. (there is a signicant difference between the 1200 and 883 gear ratios-) The advantage is quicker off-the-line acceleration, at the sacrifice of a little top-end speed. Put dual disc brakes on the front and that will increase your braking power in good proportion. They can be built to really shit-n-git. Cool thing is, with a Sportster you can start with a pretty mild ride and get really radical with it if you like. On a budget, too. I see good bikes up for sale around here, many with less than 10,000 miles on 'em for around 4 thousand up to over 9 grand, and in good shape to really tricked-out. Lots of cool aftermarket goodies out there to just bolt-on, too. They hold thier value fairly well to boot. My opinion in defense of Sportsters as an entry-level bike you can grow with, and it can grow with you, too. Easy Does It

1 - Industrial Maintenance Technician. 2 - Drug taking - Other than over-the-counter stuff and whatever 'ol Sawbones prescribes, not usually. (twenty years ago it was another story - ) You'll meet a very wide cross-section in this sport, from the chronically unemployed to doctors and lawyers and kids jumping thier trust funds away, and everything in between. Gawd that seems huge - 10 Years ago a few of us ham-radio geeks were sitting in our club shack wonder how big a full 1-farad capacitor would have to be, let alone 58 farad. (We had been given a whole bunch if big-as-a-beer-can caps for building power supplies, etc.) Getting hit by that would kill a guy for sure. We've come along way, baby! Easy Does It

What's the farad rating on that? 58 farad or .58 farad? Can't read it it's a little blurry- Easy Does It

Robot Chicken is great! ATHF, Family Guy, Futurama, Sealab 2021 - It's on kinda late for me but the DVR does a good of recording it so I can enjoy at a normal hour (for me.) The 4:30AM alarm forces me to crash early. Easy Does It

I think you'll find most dealers are charging just about the same for the Cypres 2. (I may be mistaken though - ) My suggestion is you try to find a dealer at your dropzone. You'll save shipping and possibly sales tax, keep the money local and build goodwill. Easy Does It

I was a static-line baby, too. For me it was a jumps-per-dollar factor. In retrospect It was good for all the canopy time I got up front.

I've got over 300 jumps on Spectres and got thoroughly slammed this past weekend (some very sore ribs). I concur - any canopy can slam ya!

Hard Opening (My ribs really hurt--)
Dumpster replied to Dumpster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ouch! Damn! Betcha there was a packer that got some couseling! (can't blame that on body posistion!) Went to see the sawbones - She checked to make sure I didn't detach a lung, and took x-rays to rule out a cracked rib. Probably just upset a bunch of tissue. Gave me some good, non-narcotic painkiller, some heavy-duty tylenol-type stuff. Does a good job of taking the edge off the pain. Getting out of bed wasn't that bad. I should be OK in a week or so. Hard Opening (My ribs really hurt--)
Dumpster replied to Dumpster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's one thing that amazes me is that my neck. spine etc. are just fine. I do have a slight bruise on the inside of one leg. There is no visible bruising, and the pain appears to be concentrated where the main lift web and chest strap come together on the left side. Woke up this morning and getting out of bed was quite uncomfortable. I'll be calling the doc in a couple hours. Easy Does It -

Yeah you got that right! Depending how I feel in the AM, I'll be going to see the doc. I think some tape might be in order. I really want to heal quickly - The season is just starting here. -
Hard Opening (My ribs really hurt--)

Man, I got wonked pretty good Sunday - Hard opening, one of those that everyone on the ground hears - THWACK! Instant canopy. (170 Spectre I packed myself-) Half a line twist that went away before I could think. Knocked the wind out of me, took a couple seconds for me to get my shit together. I graoned alot though. Flying and landing was pretty normal. No damage to the canopy. I've got over 300 jumps on Spectres. Had a couple somewhat rough openings, but nothing anywhere near as hard as this. Canopy has about 10 jumps on a new lineset and about 500-600 total. Just back from PD with a clean bill of health. Not sure what caused it. I could have pitched before slowing down enough after my track, or maybe the slider moved out of place when I packed after my previous jump. I just switched d-bags in my container, maybe the locking bands should be smaller - I'm thinking possible I had a slight case of line dump? sure - A friend jumped the same rig right after me, had a nice sweet soft opening like I usually have. Didn't hurt too bad at first but today I'm starting to ache pretty good - Pulling some 24" and 36" pipe wrenches at work then coming home and unloading a bunch of hardwood flooring for the house didn't help. Laughing, coughing, breathing deeply all kinda hurt, too. I'm thinking maybe I should stop in and see the sawbones about this, maybe get taped up for a spell. All on the left side - Right side feels fine though. Anyone else get hurt like this from a slammer? Easy Does It -
0:2:0 Spent Saturday nailing siding on my friends' house, drank beer, went home and ate a sammich before crashing out. Went up to Sky Knights Sunday, did a 10- way on the first jump then a 2-way with daughter Sarah. Got slammed really hard - Bruised my ribs on the left side - One of those slamming-hard openings that people can hear on the ground. I said "ouch" alot and did alot of groaning. Took drugs, and I'm REALLY sore today. Hurts to cough, but at least I can take a deep breath without too much pain. But otherwise a good day - Well, Any day I jump is a good day! Easy Does It
