  1. I've seen many rigs with loops waaay too short. distorting stiffeners, cracking them and pulling grommets out. Be careful about setting up your gear. Seen too much damage caused by "If a little bit's good, a whole lot's better!"
  2. There is a HUGE variance is the size of the "Older" RSL Pins. The process for finishing them was tumbling and the finished diameter depended on how long they stayed in the machine. In checking this same problem on around 75 different Tandem rigs, about one third were too large to fit in the hole. The new UPT RSL pin is a round stock and a tight fit but will work. If you change the material size and make it fit the largest size of the older style it will get "crushed" when used on the the smaller sizes of RSL pins. I think this temp pin is more of a special service tool and not an everyday, every rig item. If you think you may need it, check for fit before the pack job. If it does not work, prepare differently. Hope this helps.
  3. Nope, please try your call again. All operators are busy helping "Pre-Qualified" customers......Thank you!
  4. Sometimes to be "comfy" ya gotta spend the ca$h. Make a loop at each end of the 550, big enough to put a piece of 1" PVC pipe 4" long into. now you have a handle. Just giving you a "workaround" idea, or you can keep on waiting for the tools to show up. Did you learn pack these things in the military?
  5. You can use gutted 550 in a pinch. Use a gun rod (Pistol size) to negotiate the flutes, and make your stows by pulling the lines with a pullup cord.
  6. The jumpers JT Holmes, (Precision aerial diver, coordinator) Jon DeVore Andy Farrington Mike Swanson Julian Boule (Camera,Player/Coach) Packing Todd Shoebotham Ren Hushcle Abbie Mashaal Jesse Hall Pete Swan (Supervising Packer) This whole crew was the most fun, professional and intense group that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. The job came at one of the darkest times of my life and pulled me back toward the light. Thanks, guy's! SQUIRREL!
  7. I is a single use parachute, don't know exactly what for. I think they were 12' dia, I set up about 12 of them for a climbing expedition to Baffin Island last year. Leo Houlding got them off the internet and I had to do very little except make containers and static lines. They each delivered about 75 lbs of cargo.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8raH9SnqyGo
  8. Call Bill Dause, (209) 369 1128. He will get you sorted.
  9. Bill is a designer for Airborne Systems in So. Cal.
  10. Did you call Precision? Best place to start I'd say. I think I have seen one or two some years back but can't give you much info, sorry.
  11. Keep doing research, slambo. It will keep your mind occupied while you are on your fist tour in Iraq. You doing well over there? Look forward to when we can fly wing suits again, brother!
  12. No you are not, move on. The seller does not want to sell it that bad,IMO.
  13. Wow, Mike! You have been busy! I want to see your work. sounds like you were inspired by the Taka 2000 suit that Lori has now. How have you been, man? Been a while, let's do something.
  14. If it's in date, I don't believe so. I just note the work performed on the data card and seal it with my seal. Not all riggers will agree on this and it's up to them what work they do or do not want to do. Just because you have a Rigger rating does not mean you are obligated to do every request a customer gives you. I think the search function may help you here.
  15. As I remember, it was a Security "System" (real original name, huh?) with a pilot chute pouch mounted in the back pad. The handle velcroed to the lateral webbing and they floated a lot after the velcro became worn. The story I heard from Don Balch was that she had two resv. rides from it and everyone was giving her shit about it. On her last jump she was heard to say "I'm getting that thing this time!" The rest is, well you know... She was a great lady, always took time for me as a kid on the DZ. I remember her driving a nice red Morris Minor for a while. Oh, and can a moderator edit the title of this to make it a SMALL j in her first name, PLEASE!
  16. Been on both sides of that coin. I might be thinking the experienced jumper had the best interest of the newbie in mind. That jump, one on one may be worth 10 jumps if someone does not help the young jumper concentrate fully on one thing. How many jumps have you seen people orbiting around each other, trying to close the distance for most of the jump. I have had that same thing done to me and did not understand why until I thought about it from an experienced jumpers perspective. Let it go, it's not worth having your feelings hurt over. There are more serious things in life to worry about.
  17. Just found one for the Nat'l Warp III, it says to move the housing to the edge of the closing flap on rigs made before July, 1982. It was in an old Australian Parachute Federation hand book. Might be mistaken on the Corsair.. gonna keep checking though. Did see the one about the SST. Okay, found the reference to the GS Express problem in my Poynters Manual, third edition, page 200, top left. Some owners were removing the stitching that passes through the reserve risers and the shoulder pad so they could move the pad. Unless the stitching is replaced, the harness can fail. Sound about right, Beatnik?
  18. 1. Swift 2.Tempo 3.Corsair 4.Green Star Trac II 5.FCI (any) 6.Raven (early) 7.B. Gargano Hobbit the one I'm not sure about is the Tempo..does this show how old I am?
  19. Counting on everything else being compatible. That means if you are not stuffing it into too small of a container that might be a struggle for the bag to come out. I don't think it would be too much of a problem at terminal. you might want to adjust your emergency procedures for a low altitude slow speed bailout. Don't make the stows too big or tight. 1- 1.5 inches should be plenty to hold the canopy in the bag during extraction from the container.

My Mom went to the next big adventure March 15th 2010 FUCK CANCER!
  21. Oh boy, aside from unsewn lines from ALL of the major manufacturers of reserves. I saw one pilot rig that was not TSO'ed, repacked by an owner of a rig manufacturing company where he "shortened" the top loop by pinching it ABOVE the first grommet, (the loop was 900 lb Dacron) and threw a couple of supertack stitches in it! Pilot chute and some canopy in tow for sure! The rig had been packed like that for 12 years! Countless flights and who knows how many people wore it. Another was a new rig that had all the looks of a factory final inspection, resv risers wrapped with the velcro, toggles in place but no guide rings or even the webbing that holds them! One "helpful" "Master Rigger" that was too stupid to turn on the lights in his shop, pre-assembled a rig. He screwed a connector link right thru a reserve riser, I still have the bits of webbing that fell out of the link from that one! Various miss rigs of steering lines, loose links and just plain shoddy work through the years. Oh and one more, a reflex that was packed so poorly, I could lift the rig off the table by the pilot chute. A couple of shakes and it cleared but come on...
  22. So 75 x65 to make it a little more "square" then?
