As the main risers go bye-bye, the still connected RSL could get hooked on something you want to keep as the cutaway main goes away. Some containers have a Collins lanyard which connects the two risers. If the RSL is connected, the lanyard could choke off the reserve as the connected risers slide up the lines of the reserve. Taking an OP terminal is surprisingly not that hard of an opening. My scale of what I consider a hard opening might be a bit skewed as I have a lot of jumps on Sabres loaded anywhere from 1.2-1.6 and think a long sniveling canopy is a mal that eventually clears. I have demo'd a PD-R and an OP loaded at 1.5, both at sub and terminal. The PD-R definitely was much more brisk compared to the OP. The first jump on the OP was sub terminal and it was a great opening. Soft and relatively slow. Second jump on it was at terminal after a 10 second delay out of a KA. The opening was brisk, but not hard. The opening "shock" was staged throughout the entire deployment. What impressed me even more than the opening, was how nice it flared. I'm glad I took it terminal so I would know what to expect if I ever have to do so. Rather do it first in a very controlled situation instead of it being my only and last option. S turns are only to be used when you have screwed the pouch and have to land in a specific spot to keep from getting injured. Once you are in the pattern, fly a consistent and predictable pattern. Just like everyone else should be doing. By their nature, S turns screw up the pattern for everyone else because no one but you knows what the hell you are about to do. The jumper behind you now has to adjust to an obstacle that you have now become by flying S turns across the pattern. Never a good thing to do. Weight pockets on the container are another option. This has benefits in that the weight is carried as part of the container instead of on your body during deployment. Also, if you are ever unlucky to have a water landing, you don't have to worry about dumping the weights, once you are out of the rig, the weights are gone too. I use the same method you use to pack the PC. Two things I do to try to eliminate the problem you had. After I stow the bridle into the PC and fold/roll the PC on the container, I stand up over the top of the container and roll it on its side so the mouth of the BOC is facing up. I then make sure to rotate the rolled PC so that the bridle is against the bottom of the container when the PC is put into the BOC. The bridle does not cross over the mouth of the BOC, but sits tight against the container so I can tuck it into the protector flap. Any excess bridle can be tucked up under the protector flap or the right side main flap of the container. I don't shove the extra into the BOC. When I pitch, there is nothing in the way of the PC to cause it to bunch up. Second, I beat the bujesus out of the PC once it is in the BOC to make it as flat as possible. The mouth of the BOC is flat, and I want the PC to be the same shape so it can come out as easily as possible when I deploy. YMMV 50 donations so far. Give it a try.
