The economy wasn't in the dumps in 2003. I think we should do whatever we can to help people in every part of the world. I know we went into Iraq with bad intelligence, but I'm also happy Saddam's gone and a democracy is standing up. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

If money is more important to you than that dictator being gone... I guess so. What about the $700B handouts? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

There's not a psychopathic murdering dictator running around. I guess an end to the genocide and all that other pesky stuff doesn't directly effect you, therefore it doesn't matter. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I doubt the guy had any prior intent at all, I suspect he just got mad and threw the shoe. Much like flipping some idiot driver on the road. Or punching a drunk at the bar that won't leave your friends alone. (that was for Kallend so he can call GWB a drunk) I doubt very much there was any "higher" meaning or "lower" purpose to the act - no matter how much each camp really wishes for one or the other. This comes from his family (who some of you have claimed were killed by US bombs) and co-workers. Zaidi's aunt Umm Zaman, who lives in the same building, described her nephew's deed as the realisation of a long-held wish. "For a long time he has wanted to hit Bush with a shoe, and at last his dream has come true," she said. Those quotes kinda make this look a little froced. I guess that opinion would also depend upon whether you're a person sitting safely at home behind your computer or a Kurd living in Iraq. Or the mother of a dead child, killed by a US bomb. Or the family of a dead US serviceman. Ok. I get it. You think everything is America's fault. China's environmental pollution. Saddam's genocide. The dead US serviceman. You think it's all our fault and poor Saddam should've been left alone to do his business. I'm pretty confident I've never once read a positive post from you regarding this country. You should pay better attention. However, it is a regrettable FACT that: the US DID supply Saddam with weapons and chemical precursors, The US HAS exported a huge fraction of its manufacturing and concomitant pollution to Asia, The US DID invade Iraq under false pretenses, resulting in the deaths of countless Iraqis and well over 4,000 US servicemen and women. And those ARE facts. Care to dispute any of them? Nope. But I blame Saddam for the hundreds of thousands of dead and tortured. I think the hundreds of Chinese coal plants are China's doing and if they don't have a desire to clean up the environment then that's their fault. The US invaded Iraq with faulty intelligence but I have zero problem with Saddam being out and democracy being in. The major difference is that you don't see any good. You only see a chance to blame America in all of those situations. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I think there should be something in the middle. Setting him completely free seems inappropriate. Of course sending him to prison for the rest of his is also completely unacceptable. I'm down with a punishment fitting the crime. If you threw a shoe at me and missed, I wouldn't expect you to do more than a few days in jail (actually, I suspect the police would laugh at me for even reporting it). Blues, Dave They probably would laugh. They'd also laugh if you reported someone prank calling your house. Try doing that to the White House and note the different response. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I guess that opinion would also depend upon whether you're a person sitting safely at home behind your computer or a Kurd living in Iraq. What about the families of the countless innocents and servicemen or all of the tax payers that have had their hard earned wages squandered? They're not countless. We have the records. The wages squandered on OIF? Should we have saved it up to hand out more to the big 3 or AIG? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I think Germany has a law that requires assistance. It's my understanding the GSL in this case protects the "helper" but doesn't require it. Lawrocket? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -

Find one instance where I said it was "inexcusable" Go ahead..find one. I am amazed people like you who opposed the war against SH, who was a violent dictator that gassed his own people, are supporting another violent act. With a LOT of US help, thanks to R. Reagan: Alcolac International, a Baltimore chemical manufacturer, shipped large quantities of thiodiglycol (used to make mustard gas) as well as other chemical and biological ingredients, according to a 1989 story in The New York Times. Nu Kraft Mercantile Corp. of Brooklyn (affiliated with the United Steel and Strip Corporation) also supplied Iraq with huge amounts of thiodiglycol, the Times reported. In October 1992, the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, which has Senate oversight responsibility for the Export Administration Act (EAA), held an inquiry into the U.S. export policy to Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf War. During that hearing it was learned that U.N. inspectors identified many U.S. - manufactured items exported pursuant to licenses issued by the U.S. Department of Commerce that were used to further Iraq's chemical and nuclear weapons development and missile delivery system development programs." Imagine that. You're blaming Saddam's genocide on the US. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

A.K.A the US-sponsored puppet-government. Now you're just throwing poop hoping some of it will stick. This thread is a worthless attempt to somehow blame Bush for a Christian act that you don't agree with. I think it's fair to say Iraq is far from being converted to a Christian state. Ok. Feel free to start a new thread discussing the issue. As far as the OP and this threa, my comments stand. So when the SOFA goes into effect and our troops take on a police roll under the Iraqi government... then what? Your claim is irrelevent? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I think that's the best advice. Then you at least know what you're doing and could avoid further harm. My wife was a CPR instructor and had the opportunity to save someone's life on the side of the road while others just stood and watched. Educate yourself whenever possible. Does the law state anything about providing assistance beyond your level of knowledge or ability? So, if you know CPR then that's fine but attempting a trach with a ball point pen can make you liable for causing further harm. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Yeah, the Romans didn't convert their subjects in a measly seven years, either. The Roman empire was around for over 1,000 years. After a few generations of occupation, the majority of their subjects were converted. And John McCain said he thought we should be in Iraq for 100 years "if necessary". If necessary for what, do you think? We're not occupying for 1,000 years. We're not even occupying, by definition. Besides that, we won't be in country after 2011 as the SOFA currently stands. Nowhere in McCain's quote did he say "if necessary" and it was never implied, or even close to imlied, that we would remain there to convert anyone. He said.. Maybe a hundred. Make it one hundred. We’ve been in South Korea, we’ve been in Japan for sixty years. We’ve been in South Korea for fifty years or so. That’d be fine with me as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. Then it’s fine with me. I would hope it would be fine with you if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Qaeda is training, recruiting, equipping and motivating people every single day. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

And we can't help it if you make up things and then go off about them. If you can prove such claims...Present them, or at least man up and admit you made them up. I didn't make anything up - the shoe thrower told the world that his reason was the US invasion and occupation. Apparently some people were not listening. The question isn't his motivation. That part is clear. The questions is whether or not throwing your shoes at a visiting President is A) an act of violence and B) appropriate behavior. Do you think it was a violent act? Do you think it was appropriate? It was a rather mild form of protest considering it was against a visiting invader. I suggest you would have thrown a shoe at Tojo if you'd had a chance. . I guess I should have known better than to expect a direct answer. I gather you think it was a violent act and it was appropriate. That's all you had to say. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

REASONABLE does not equate throwing a shoe with ordering the military invasion of another country. You have no idea what REASONABLE is. I haven't seen a single post that equates the two. You brought up that comparison to try and justify a violent act towards the President. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

And following Kallend-logic, Auschwitz-Birkenau would have been fine if it was filled with Republicans or anyone else he disagrees with. Fascists, nazis, and their modern day equivalents. Wow. You were pretty quick to prove his point. Sad really... -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

So. Back to the bottom line. What fuckin business is it of ours what Saddamn did in his own country. And we were a a major supplier of his weapons when he was our puppet. Now we want the countries oil and invaded and killed LOTS of innocents under false pretenses. I am done w/ you. You are too brainwashed to argue w/. Someone who still thinks the war was about oil isn't worth arguing with anyway. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
