  1. That's not true. Science fits together very well. One of the main criterion for being accepted as a valid scientific theory is that it is self-consistent and fits in with everything else we know to be true. If it fails any of those tests, it gets dumped. Just because you can't explain how science fits it all together doesn't mean that others can't. Stephen Hawking would disagree. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  2. The world is slightly different than Roman and Mayan ages. The Soviet Union completely collapsed and the society didn't cease to exist. The housing market taking a dump and the Dow dipping below 8,000 is hardly the end of the world. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  3. Same role? No. Major role? Absolutely. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  4. The science you got/get taught in school bears no resemblance to the actual state of knowledge in the scientific community. And that right there proves my point exactly. The science we are taught bears no resemblance to other versions of science. That stands true on the general level as you have pointed out and on the literal level as in SR in relation to quantum mechanics. Those who place their faith in science can't explain how it all fits together. Yet, they chastise the religious for believing in things with no physical proof. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  5. Yes. That's what I said. People who believe in the science of today have faith, just in different places. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  6. Then why do Christians? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  7. only if you forget that science is about verifiable knowledge. Exactly - that's where 'they' keep falling down. We can demonstrate 'science based stuff' - they, for the most part, can not demonstrate anything. As far as where we came from; neither can you. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  8. only if you forget that science is about verifiable knowledge. Like the string theory? Or general versus special relativity? Or creating matter from energy? Or the gravitron across 11 dimensions? Verify away. Only fundamentalist Christians claim that we learned all we needed to learn 2000 years ago with the New Testament. I don't have to explain to you that "theory" means work in progress. Ok. I never said we learned all we needed to learn. Learning about the world around us is important. My point is that all of the theories do not explain where we came from or how things really work. It's always a "work in progress." You can't tell me where we came from or how things work because it's theory. Science is different today than it was 10 years ago and it'll be different 10 years from now. Which part of it do you believe in? I was taught there were three subatomic particles. That was verifyable and true at the time. It's not anymore. It doesn't make my teachers liars. That was the truth at the time. Now there are quarks and gluons. Why should we think there isn't something smaller? I'm not saying that science is evil or doesn't produce results. I'm saying that it's constantly changing so I find it funny people put their beliefs into the truth of the moment; something that will undoubtedly be different in the near future. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

  10. That's kind of the same logic that lawrocket is talking about. Yes, you can see the table, but where did it come from? I doubt you saw the actual forrest, mill, manufacturer, or distributor. Of course those things are all there somewhere. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they don't exist. The real issue with science explaining our existance, for me, is at the sub-atomic level. Everything is differenct today than it was when I was in school and that wasn't too long ago. The string theories, multiple dimensions, teleporting electrons... it's all new and mostly theory. Those who claim they believe in science show just as much faith as Christians. It's just in different places. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  11. Liters equates to gallons CCs to CIs Even so, 3.0 liters still sounds better than 183.07 cubic inches. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  12. Did nobody else see Obama's comments on the situation? He said that if someone was firing rockets into his daughters' window then he would do whatever it took to stop it. The Israeli defense minister then quoted him in a speach defending their actions. EDIT: The comments were apparently made earlier this summer. Either way, he's made his views clear and hoping he'll change something on the 21st is rediculous. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  13. Like some have said, I think it'll be a slow transition into using a combination of both. I don't think we'll ever change to kilometers or kilos. Not because people think math is hard, but because math is needed at all. When someone says pound or mile, we can instantly see that in our head. When someone says kilo, I have to do the conversion to something I recognize mentally. The result is that I continue to think in miles and pounds, but have to spend the time doing a mental conversion. It's a matter of changing how the entire country thinks and what it recognizes. Much easier said than done. Is calling the engine a 3.0 liter really a reflection of the metric system or just easier than advertising a .7917 gallon engine? 5.7 liter V-8 sounds nicer than 1.5024 gallon V-8. It's not technically imperial, but Farenheit was designed for cooking because there's a much wider range available. I prefer working with metric tools but the mental conversion problem is still there if I need to picture the part. This post is just a collection of my thoughts. There was no way to tie them all together. Thanks. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  14. You think we'll have less war, less differences, and less suffering if the global population is reduced? The only way that would be true is if entire cultures are eliminated. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  15. Hamas has slung over 3,000 rockets without retaliation. Israel upheld the cease fire even as Hamas didn't. Israel said they'll stop when Hamas stops launching rockets. Hamas said they won't stop for any reason. I applaud Israel's restraint up to this point. Regardless of religion, I don't know why anyone would take Hamas' side. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  16. Considering all of his sons were taught their leadership skills by the guy who was an aircraft commander who saved himself by abandoning his crew when his aircraft was hit ( they all died) are we really surprised how they have turned out... The Bush boys are the EPITOME of the me first generation.... serving themselves is far more important than little things like honor... duty.... legality. A. You're ignoring Jeb's record and connecting him to actions done by his father B. That is a grossly over-simplified account of the Avenger being shot down. Radio transmissions were heard commanding the bailout. Unfortunately, two people died; one from his chute not opening. Bush earned the DFC for completing the bomb run after taking hits and then piloting the aircraft out to sea before commanding the bailout. C. You ignore the 57 other combat missions and the DFC The Bush boys are in their late 50's and 60's. They're not the me generation. One of Jeb's strong points is his commitment to legality and the system, as previously stated. You obviously don't like him because of his last name which just proves the point of several posts. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  17. Wow. 4 replies before someone blamed it on the Republicans. Nice. I blamed it on right-wing whack jobs who threaten violence based on bigotry. If you define that as "Republicans", well, that's your definition. And my point was that it didn't take half a page before someone blamed the excessive spending on someone other than the people doing the spending. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  18. Not sure what you mean by qualifier. My point was that Bush Sr wasn't pushing for, or even suggesting that Jeb should run for President. He was asked about Jeb running for Senate and his response was that he'd be an excellent Senator. He then said he would also support Jeb's decision to leave politics all together. The "I'd like to see him be President" was after all of that and struck me as a father saying, I'd like to see my son do whatever he wants and he'd be good at it. Take it how you will. I just don't think it was a comment that deserves the attention and headlines it's getting. Here's the clip. I don't really see what the problem would be with Jeb running. If he's the most qualified person then why does it matter who his relatives are? If he were elected based solely on his last name, then I'd take issue. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  19. He added: "I mean, right now is probably a bad time, because we've got enough Bushes in there." -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  20. Wow. 4 replies before someone blamed it on the Republicans. Nice. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  21. Don't be rediculous. I need somewhere to vacation. Jones is a tough one to trace with any accuracy. I know it's Welsh in origin, but that's about it. I remember my grandfather wearing a ring he said was the family crest. Maybe I can track that down. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  22. The best thing they could do right now is plow in with trucks full of humanitarian aid for the civilians. I think it would help them more than anything else. Both the Palestinians and the world would view the situation differently. I don't think it'll happen, but I wish it would. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  23. I also found that amusing. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  24. I voted no, but in regards to your post, I think it has more to do with leadership training and the ability to think quickly and calmly under pressure. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
  25. I find your post, combined with your sig line to be somewhat funny/ironic. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
