  6. Wasn't he complaining about his total taxes? That total tax bill could be lower (or he would receive increased government services for the same taxes) if Californians weren't subsidizing welfare states. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. Ha. Apparently, he got the message from your boss: he's apologized. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1496131-phil-mickelson-offers-apology-for-tax-comments-sunday-at-humana-challenge?hpt=hp_t3 Yep...its 2013. So many things you're not allowed to talk about anymore. It's pretty much always been a no-no to bite the hand that feeds you. You mean he gets checks from the government too? If he lives in CA, then his problem is more likely to be his tax dollars going to welfare states, such as Florida, Louisiana, or Mississippi. Re-read what you just said. You sure you don't want to edit it? Why would I want to edit it? It's fairly well known that California is one of the states that subsidizes welfare states like Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Edit to add: Oh, I see. I should have spelled out California instead of writing CA. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  10. I know some CCW holders who carry all of the time, but who practice very, very little. They may not be a representative sample, but I seriously doubt they are all outliers. These are the same people who are among the most vocal when it comes to regurgitating BS NRA talking points. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to raising LEO training standards, but as you said, even current LEO training standards tend to be higher than CCW training standards. Math tutoring available. 11. It does a lot better job of doing so than do civilians carrying concealed weapons. (Yes, I've read John Lott's work. His conclusions regarding CCW effects on crime rates are not justified by the data.) What data? It is well established that Lott fabricated much of his so-called "data". If the data points with missing data are removed from Lott's data sets, Lott's methods do not show a statistically significant effect of CCW laws and crime. If jurisdictions with CCW laws in place for over seven years are removed from the dataset, then Lott's methodology results in a positive correlation between CCW laws and violent crimes, i.e., jurisdictions with shall issue laws have higher crime rates. The only thing we know for certain about the effects of shall issue laws is that we don't have enough data to understand the effects of shall issue laws. That, of course, raises the question: Why are the NRA so adamantly opposed to research into the effects of guns and gun laws on society? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 12. Yes, I'm saying that the standards for CCW in many states are very low. The idea that there is no substantial difference between a typical CCW holder and a typical off-duty cop, as implied by at least one poster in this thread, is ludicrous. Math tutoring available. 13. In my experience, people resort to witless personal attacks when they have no legitimate argument to support their assertions. It appears that you've reached that point. Have a good day. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  14. Can you give examples of where cops are required to disarm themselves before entering the premises? I'm not talking about cops. I'm talking about other trained individuals. Oh, like minimally trained CCW holders? I thought you actually meant well trained individuals. My mistake. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  15. In that case, you statement is vacuously true, since all other things are not equal. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  18. I never said anything of the sort. However, the only training we can assume a CCW holder has is the minimal training required to obtain the CCW. Certainly some have more training than that, but you didn't specify only CCW holders who have had training far above and beyond what is required of a CCW applicant. If that's what you meant, you should have written that. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  19. Did you read the link I posted most recently in this thread? "Massachusetts officials said Tuesday that during an inspection this month investigators had found dirty mats and hoods, a leaky boiler, dark debris floating in vials of medicine, and evidence that the lab was not leaving enough time to properly sterilize some of its products." One would think that medical doctors and pharmacists would understand the importance of lab cleanliness in a pharmaceutical lab. But who cares about public safety when there's money to be made, right? There is nothing ethical about pulling large profits out of the company and filing for bankruptcy to protect assets from those who were killed through the company's negligence. 20. You're confusing police officers with waiters. Police are not part of the service industry. I seriously doubt she would still have a job if her superiors found out she allowed a violent felony to be committed in her presence without taking any action. There is a reason that many police departments require off-duty officers to carry a gun. My father has 40+ years in law enforcement in Texas. I know the difference. Clearly you don't if you are seriously comparing police to the service industry. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  21. It's a SWAT situation only if there is time to call SWAT. There wasn't. So the cop on scene took out the immediate threat, as she was trained to do. Yes, we all know that there are police officers who probably aren't well suited for their job. That doesn't mean someone with little to no training is better suited to that job. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  22. Yes, police can abuse their authority. Of course, CCW holders can abuse their right to carry. As amusing as your incorrect use of appeal to authority? Your belief that it's all about aiming ability demonstrates rather well that a CCW applicant is not nearly as well suited for situations requiring deadly force than a typical cop is. 24. It's difficult to grasp because there's absolutely nothing suggesting your assertion is true. She did her job, no more, no less. She certainly did not go "above and beyond the call of duty." I'm sure many were thankful that there was a cop on site, though. I doubt many of them would have preferred a mere CCW holder. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  25. True, but that's a lot like a parent saying that they would rather their kids make Ds instead of Fs. While undoubtedly true, most prents would prefer As, Bs, or even Cs to Ds. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
