How do you propose paying for all of the extra, unnecessary labor when those extra workers are on the clock before or after lunch? Alternately, how do you propose paying for the hefty hourly premium that would be required to entice reliable workers to a 2-hour per day job? There is a reason easily anticipated rushes still frequently result in increased wait times for customers. It doesn't typically make financial sense to bring in extra workers for a short period of increased customer arrivals. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

With a bit of business acumen, you'd understand why that's not likely to be a successful strategy. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Just calling BS on the claim that federal employees are overpaid compared to their private sector counterparts. As a taxpayer, I don't begrudge them their scheduled pay increases. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

A quick search reveals I'm slightly under-qualified for federal jobs in my field that pay my current salary, in similar real estate markets. That would suggest that civilians make more than federal employees in my field. Do you have similar retirement benefits? I have a pretty good benefits package. It might be inferior to federal benefits in some respects, but I suspect it's better in many ways. I almost certainly have better working conditions than my federal counterparts. For example, I enjoy my unshared, top-floor office with its 65+ square foot window and the view that it provides. For the most part, I set my own hours, and if I want to work from home I can. If I took anything away from military service it was this: Some people are honorable, and some honorable people serve in the military, but military service does not imply an honorable person. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

That's not actually true. It's all down to the Lebesgue measure of the open interval (a, b) being exactly equal to the Lebesgue measure of the closed interval [a, b], a < b, both real. Thought of a different way, when we integrate over (a, b), we get the same result as if we integrate over [a, b] (assuming the integral is defined on both intervals, of course). If we are to randomly select a number from [a, b], the probability of that number being a is exactly zero, likewise for b. It is, however, possible that the selected number is a or b. The same is true of any particular (i.e., specified before the random selection takes place) number in [a, b]. Sure, and technically collusion isn't a crime. But when people have a conversation and general terms are used..... I actually threw it out there only because it is an interesting (to me), albeit counterintuitive, mathematical result that was related to your comment. It wasn't intended to add commentary or call anyone out about imprecision. I apologize if it came across that way. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Even more generally (if I recall Real Analysis correctly), the probability of picking any element of a countable set from the set of reals is zero, because the Lebesgue measure of any countable set is zero. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

No they don't. Things that are probable are always possible, while things that are possible are not always probable. Don't forget that an event can be possible while having a probability of exactly zero. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Right. You wouldn't want to distort your world view with any facts, would you? I guess you'd have to ask yourself why the MSM exists. Do you really believe their sole purpose is to give you the facts? For the most part, yes. The CEOs of the private ones, of course, are charged with returning profit to shareholders (dividends) and/or growing as a company (increased stock price). At the end of the day, the product they are selling to consumers is factual news reporting. The ones who best deliver that product tend to be most successful, i.e., become the "MSM". I guess you'd have to ask yourself why capitalism works. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
