No more so than racial, sexual or religious discrimination. A court decision is not a law. With what do you disagree? Are you saying you believe that being in close proximity with homosexuals can turn people gay? Or do you think it's bad to teach children tolerance and acceptance of those not like themselves? You claim that you don't judge, yet you judge homosexuality to be immoral. Which is it? You can't judge and also claim not to judge. Don't creationists believe that God is behind their genetics, and placed kids in their environment? The court's opinion, and make no mistake, their opinion is the only one that matters, is that is about civil liberties. There's no reason to consider homosexuality immoral. That's like claiming that it's immoral to have blue eyes. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

No, that's not what was decided. What was decided was should it be allowable to discriminate against people based on their sexual preference. The California Supreme Court happened to make a decision favoring morality and equal rights instead of homophobia and discrimination. I still believe it should remain morally not right. Interesting claim considering you conveniently didn't answer my questions pertaining to god and homosexuality. Agreed. People should have exactly the same civil liberties regardless of their sexual orientation. And here you completely contradict your previous claim. So you think it's okay to be bigoted based on sexual orientation, as long as you aren't bigoted with regard to color, race or sex? Interesting and quite telling. Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. What law was passed? Just as I feel it is morally wrong to be a religious fundamentalist, but I don't believe that in itself justifies prison sentences. I have to call bullshit. I've lived in a few cities with higher than average GLBT populations, as well as being raised in the belt buckle of the bible belt. If anything, the diversity is good for kids. Being around gays doesn't make people gay any more than being around cancer victims causes cancer. So basically, you understand and acknowledge that being gay is not a choice (i.e. God made gay people gay, from a creationist perspective). Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! If "god" had a problem with homosexuality, why is homosexuality/bisexuality so widespread in the animal kingdom? If humans were "designed" by a supernatural being that is against gays, why do men have prostates? Please, enlighten us, Ye of Many Words. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! I feel exactly the opposite. I see it as a victory against the homophobes. I've yet to hear a credible argument for a double standard for heterosexual couples and homosexual couples. For the record, I'm a straight white guy that supports gay rights and opposes racism and sexism. A dog, a dog, a cat, a cat, a human is a human. -Pato Banton Math tutoring available. Thanks for posting that link. Given the information provided there, along with the information provided by nerdgirl in post #4 of this thread, I will have to vote yes, as it appears that PTSD often meets the criteria of the medal. Spoken like a truly enlightened combat veteran (from the seventeenth century). If you have some freakin point to make, then make it. Do you think that everybody who has ever been shot at in anger deserves a freakin medal? It's a fair question. If you are going to judge those combat veterans who suffer PTSD as cowards, it's quite relevant to understand your perspective. Hmmm … I have an uncle who had to go out of his way to not be put in for a purple heart when, drinking back in the rear, he tripped and fell, cutting himself on a beer can in Viet Nam. I've heard from multiple VN vets that Purple Heart medals were often given out like candy in that war police action. Actually, the black beret was worn by Rangers, not Special Forces, who get to wear green berets. (Airborne wear a maroon beret.) I wouldn't consider having what it takes to be a soldier "nothing." Quite a lot of people don't have what it takes to make it through basic training and AIT. I can't think of any other job I've ever held for which I was expected to work 72 hour shifts (without sleep) in the pouring rain and expected to be as motivated during the 72nd hour as in the 1st. Your claim that the beret now means nothing is total bullshit. Once upon a time, having 1000 jumps was a huge accomplishment. Aircraft were small, and good landings could pound the shit out of people. Malfunctions required more complex emergency procedures. Surviving that process 1000 times was a big deal. Today, with twin turbine aircraft offering twenty minute turnarounds, rigs that can be packed in ~5 minutes by a motivated packer, three ring release systems and GPS, 1000 jumps doesn't even get you off rookie status in many places. Heck, I've known jumpers that had half as many again by the time they were sixteen years old. I've known many jumpers that have made well over 10,000 skydives. My friend Gus Wing (BSBD) once said that 10,000 jumps was no big deal. That's pretty easy to say from your armchair. How about heading down to your local recruiter to take your ASVAB and get a ride to MEPS, signing up, proving you have what it takes to wear even the black beret, cupcake. Let me guess, that old knee injury from high school football practice is preventing you from serving. Or, perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps, once upon a time you did actually have the courage to sign up, or at least report when you got your draft notice. In that case, how about following this man's example? Otherwise, sit down and STFU. I don't think anyone is claiming that PTSD is caused by simply being in combat. And if it were, that would be a pretty big indication that someone had the courage to fight in the face of a greater than typical fear of being shot at. Agreed. Has it? Are you saying that no veterans from previous wars have had to struggle for the rest of their lives, some with more success than others, with PTSD, or, perhaps more accurately, shell shock? From George Carlin's Euphemisms (1990): I don't like words that hide the truth. I don't words that conceal reality. I don't like euphemisms, or euphemistic language. And American English is loaded with euphemisms. Cause Americans have a lot of trouble dealing with reality. Americans have trouble facing the truth, so they invent the kind of a soft language to protest themselves from it, and it gets worse with every generation. For some reason, it just keeps getting worse. I'll give you an example of that. There's a condition in combat. Most people know about it. It's when a fighting person's nervous system has been stressed to it's absolute peak and maximum. Can't take anymore input. The nervous system has either (click) snapped or is about to snap. In the first world war, that condition was called shell shock. Simple, honest, direct language. Two syllables, shell shock. Almost sounds like the guns themselves. That was seventy years ago. Then a whole generation went by and the second world war came along and very same combat condition was called battle fatigue. Four syllables now. Takes a little longer to say. Doesn't seem to hurt as much. Fatigue is a nicer word than shock. Shell shock! Battle fatigue. Then we had the war in Korea, 1950. Madison avenue was riding high by that time, and the very same combat condition was called operational exhaustion. Hey, were up to eight syllables now! And the humanity has been squeezed completely out of the phrase. It's totally sterile now. Operational exhaustion. Sounds like something that might happen to your car. Then of course, came the war in Viet Nam, which has only been over for about sixteen or seventeen years, and thanks to the lies and deceits surrounding that war, I guess it's no surprise that the very same condition was called post-traumatic stress disorder. Still eight syllables, but we've added a hyphen! And the pain is completely buried under jargon. Post-traumatic stress disorder. I'll bet you if we'd of still been calling it shell shock, some of those Viet Nam veterans might have gotten the attention they needed at the time. I'll betcha. I'll betcha. Math tutoring available. They are, indeed, two independent variables in the function that determines the price. They are not, however, always the two dominant variables in that function. Fuel is an excellent example of how, in the short term, an increase in the price of gas can have very little effect on the quantity demanded. In the long term, as people are able to make significant adjustments to their fuel requirements (e.g. relocate their residences closer to work, find jobs closer to home, purchase more fuel efficient vehicles, etc.), price has a greater effect. Many other things can affect market prices besides supply and demand. Is the market perfectly competitive, monopolistic, or somewhere in between? How easily can new firms enter the market? How easily can quantity demanded be adjusted by consumers? Are there price floors, price ceilings, or other forms of government intervention (some of which is good, some of which is not so good)? Just a few other things that need to be taken into consideration. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I would say that goes double for his critics that claim his sermon was hate filled. I agree. The thing is, I'm white and a hell of a lot younger than Wright. I'm never going to understand racism like he understands it. That's in no small part due to people of his generation, like himself, who were active in the civil rights movement. The closest I'm likely to ever suffer from racism is not being qualified for the United Negro College Fund. He's lived with it all his life. Personally, I'm willing to cut him a little slack and give him the benefit of the doubt. But it matters a lot if it was taken out of context. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! ***You must not have gotten the memo - it's only bad to be a Christian if you're NOT a liberal. So your point was that it's okay for liberals to be Christians? Well now. that changes everything. As much as I hate to defend Obama, I find it amazing the the crap he's received from the media and the right because of some comments that were taken out of context to make his preacher (minister, or whatever he wants to be referred to) appear to be preaching hate. Personally, aside from his comment about the government creating AIDS to kill off black people, his comments weren't really that far off the mark. They were probably a bit less diplomatic than most would prefer, but they weren't hateful. I wonder how many hours of his sermons had to be sifted through to get the sound bites they got. Think I'm wrong? Find thirty continuous minutes of one of his sermons where the overall message is hateful. I've got an open mind. I'll admit it if I'm wrong. Math tutoring available. How much influence does the US REALLY have in foreign societies?

There are lots of examples of them right here in the US. They are the ones that don't vote, despite being eligible to register to do so.
