  1. That's quite the untrue and uninformed statement. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  2. There are/have been immoral religious people, for example, jihadists. There are/have been moral atheists, for example, Richard Feynman, Albert Einstein, many of my own personal friends (most of which are not scientists), and millions of others I don't know. Therefore, your assertion that morality and religion go hand in hand is not true. We know for a fact that it is possible to be moral without being religious, just as it is possible to be religious without being moral, setting aside, momentarily, the fact that morality itself is subjective, not absolute. You need to either revise or abandon your hypothesis, because in it's current form, it is not correct, since there is observable evidence that contradicts it. Math tutoring available. 3. Could you please start using words in the context of their traditional definitions and meanings? It would definitely promote intelligent dialog. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  4. It's tough to take you assertion seriously when you have to openly discount the exceptions to religious = moral AND the exceptions to atheism = immoral. In other words, you have no evidence of any correlation at all. If I'm wrong, feel free to provide the evidence I claim is missing. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 5. My personal view is that the universe with all of its physical laws is a visible manifestation of God. The universe is self aware, because God is self aware. It is the Physical part of God that gives the Spiritual a means of contact and expression. Like our bodies being the vehicle of our spiritual being. The perfect Nature of God is reflected in His manifested universal creation. The freedom He bestowed on us has been repaid by our corruption of His perfect creation. You're free to believe that. However, that is a profoundly different concept than the one to which I referred. Your statement: Interesting. Since this is one of God's attributes, it appears that you are simply exchanging personal viewpoints of what God is or isn't. is incorrect, or, at the very least, extremely misleading. The comparison that was made is similar to comparing a cake at your local grocery store to a bakery referenced in a fictional novel. Yet, amazingly, no one has ever been able to produce any in support of a supernatural god. One would think that if so much evidence for such a thing surrounds us, then someone would make the effort to point it out. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  6. I've seen a few recent polls on that particular topic. Obama and Clinton would both be victorious over McCain according to most of them. IIRC, slightly more claim Clinton would win, but the average margin of victory slightly favors Obama. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. Sigh. Power is defined as unit of work per unit of time. Can love do work? E.g. I love skydiving, but that love alone doesn't get the plane to altitude. So, yes, I can deny the power of love. I have that ability since I'm not Huey Lewis. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  8. But your sig line clearly shows you support the Democratic party. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  9. I agree. I don't think any of the three candidates currently in the running are the best our country has to offer. I live in a state that may well be a close call, so I feel obligated to vote against the worst candidate of the to major parties. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  10. Is there not going to be anything else on the ballot besides the Presidential election? Thanks for catching that. I was referring specifically to the Presidential election Well if you're going to cast a ballot anyway, and you truly don't believe your vote for president will be the least bit consequential, you could always, on principle, vote for someone who you feel is actually best suited to be POTUS, assuming of course that you're not one of the rare few who believes one of the two major candidates is actually the very best the country has to offer. That vote wouldn't mean anything, either, but it might offer some small amount of personal satisfaction. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  12. You seem to misunderstand what I wrote. I asked, "Are you defining God as the universe (i.e. God = universe = God)?" In other words, God is the universe, no more, no less (i.e. a natural god). That is significantly different than defining god as the creator of the universe (i.e. a supernatural god), an idea for which there is absolutely no supporting evidence. By the defining god as the universe, No creature could be any closer to god than any other creature, including Jesus Christ, if he actually existed. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 13. Undeniable, huh? Let's test that theory. Let me go on record as saying your supernatural god does not exist. In other words, I just denied him. I guess he's not so undeniable after all. The immutable natural laws are true because they're immutable, not vice versa. Okay. Those things have nothing to do with the conversation at hand, but just for you, I'll try to remember to do that, I promise. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  14. You should probably read posts before you reply to them. I'm not using deception. Yes there is. Those who persuade with truth tend to not abandon logic and reason. How profound sounding. It's unfortunate that it doesn't accurately represent reality. Heck, for a counter-example, check out the McClellan interview. He used the truth, but was used by deception. You give me FAR too much credit. Playing with fire vicariously just isn't as much fun. Not really. I don't mind my own company. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  15. Who wrote the memo? Who was the ultimate authority calling for the memo to be written with her identity revealed? Why did that person authorize it? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  16. It's no trick. It's a fairly common writing technique to rewrite the introductory sentence to create the concluding sentence, or vice versa. Their respective purposes are different, but their content is often similar. Outside of gambling, I can't think of any reason. Since I've not proposed any wager, it's a safe bet, so to speak, that I'm not trying to trick you. Isn't that what Speakers Corner is about? I get to practice my typing skills. In my spare time, I destroy galaxy clusters and buy whiskey and cigarettes for preschoolers. That doesn't sound so bad, does it? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  17. What concept are you incorrectly calling truth? Truth is that which in accordance with fact or reality. Also, notice I said "immutable natural laws" and gave laws of physics as examples. While I suspect that most, if not all, natural laws can be reduced to laws of physics, I'm not going to make that assertion in this discussion. How you possibly came to the conclusion that truth is greater than immutable natural laws with God defined as the universe is beyond me. No, it wouldn't and couldn't. Math tutoring available. 18. First, find a reputable mechanic. Don't chase sunk costs. They're gone, and you're not going to get them back. Whether you've spent $5000 or $50,000 on the SUV so far, it's only worth what you can sell it for. If repair costs are costing you more per month than the payment to replace it with something more reliable (I second the Toyota recommendation, btw), then you're better off buying the more reliable vehicle to replace it, eating your losses now before they get any larger. Car payments suck, but they're better than spending similar amounts on repairs. There is an expression: Don't throw good money after bad. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 19. Because you disagreed with: Rational people do not intentionally do anything they consider to be wrong. but absolutely agreed with: Every intentional action is correct from the perspective from which it is made. despite them being substantially the same statement. 20. What are you talking about? I never made any such claim. I said one does not have to believe in a god in order to be spiritual, not that people who believe in God are not spiritual. That doesn't make it any less reasonable. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  22. You've convinced me. We need an official language in the US. Considering Spanish is the most commonly spoken language in the world spoken natively in more countries than any other language, in the name of maximum global efficiency, we should select Spanish. ¡Viva la Español! (Mandarin is the most commonly spoken language in the world.) Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  23. There, I fixed it for ya! By the way, I agree with you. Personally, I think kids would be well served to be taught a couple foreign languages early on in school, while it is still easy to learn. Being monolingual is only going to become a bigger handicap as time goes on. Besides, it's not as if one day there were no Spanish speakers in Miami, and when they woke up the next day 58% of them spoke the language. The English speaking monolingual residents have had plenty of time to learn some Spanish. I wish I knew more than survival Spanish, but I'm grateful that I know that much. Math tutoring available. 24. You're right. I was recalling either a different thread or a post that was edited after I initially read it. Most likely it was the former. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  25. The only one I saw was the one you built. I take back the bonus points, then, and refer you back to the difference between local bond issues (which is what this REALLY is) and federal tax law tax structure. (straw man removed) Please do.
