Some think you should just cut spending. Some think you should just raise taxes. Some think that you should cut spending and THEN see if you need to raise taxes. Raising taxes may well be needed.... BUT if you just raise revenue people will just find ways to spend it. In the military we had this thing called "Spendex" The idea was that you were given 100 (made up number, WAY low) rocket launchers for training and you had to either use them, or turn them back in at the end of the year. If you only used 50, you would only get 50 next year and the only way to get more was to claim you used all you were given and needed more. So every year like clockwork we would send people to the range to 'waste' ordnance. I have taken 10 AT4's to the range and just got to play with them. I was shooting them in a high arc flight trying to drop them in on targets, I was trying to skip them off the ground (bad idea BTW). So I basically wasted 15k dollars of ordnance that day. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/at4.htm I have been sent to the range with CASES of grenades. We were seeing how many we could throw before the first one went off, we threw the boxes out into the field and tried to blast them to shit, we went around dropping them in big puddles of water to create geysers. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m67.htm Ammo.... Crap, we used to take TRUCKLOADS of ammo to the range and we would fire all day doing whatever the hell we wanted.... By the end of the day we were firing full auto and not paying a bit of attention to where the rounds went (as long as they were down range) and we were aiming the BRASS into crates so we didn't have to pick it up later. Guys would fly C-130's to Alaska and back just to spend JP8 so they would not get less next year. And this is just some examples from personal experience. And this is NOTHING in the grand picture. They issue 1000 grenades, we use 500 of them in real training and then waste the other 500 in a spendex. Next year, they gave us 1200, we used 500 in training and 700 at the spendex, the next year we got 1500.... You see where this is going? And pretty much ALL govt programs work the same way. Blow your budget and you will get more money next year, make your budget and they will cut your budget next year. So instead of focusing on raising taxes to increase budgets... Lets FIRST look at getting rid of waste.... Cause if you do not start there, you will never get to there.

Wanna compare the number of times I mention issues in Canada and political figures in Canada to the number of you and the US?
-
Kinda like when someone tries to rile people up to go after a person for wearing a military award they didn't earn?
-
But you support wasting my time with an interlock in my car even though I never drink and drive.
-
Still waiting on this one: I would support pulling over a person driving at night without taillights, or driving in the rain without wipers. Do you support the right of cops to pull you over in the middle of the day, no rain, in no traffic, while you are driving perfectly and inspect for taillights, wipers, and a horn?

Is this still not a real plane? http://affordaplane.com/ nor this one? http://www.quicksilveraircraft.com/sport.htm You do not need a license or insurance to own AND TO FLY THEM.

Still waiting: Do you have a problem with the phrase "Shall not be infringed"? You love to claim that the SC is the final say.... Cool. But I have shown, using ONLY SC cases, the SCOTUS has said that an individual is allowed an M-16. You have not been able to counter that claim. United States v. Miller: "The Second Amendment protects only the ownership of military-type weapons appropriate for use in an organized militia." DC v Heller: that it is "an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia," "The Amendment’s prefatory clause announces a purpose, but does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative clause" McDonald v. Chicago: that it applies to the States You have shown that it is not an unlimited right.... Yes, and to cite the SC they mentioned prohibitions 'against felons and the insane'. But the fact remains that the SC has ruled that it is an individual right to own a 'military-type weapon' in all of the United States. Can you provide a SINGLE SCOTUS quote that proves your position against my comment? Remember, "Shall not be infringed" is already there as well.

You a Dr now? Why does EVERYTHING have to be the fault of something else? Fact is he lives a life he likes. He gets away with it since he sponges off of others, and we let him.... I'd prefer a swift kick to his ass, but my other buddy is so much the 'nice guy' that he has 3 deadbeats living in his rental units. Yes, there are people with mental issues.... But there are also lazy people who if they have beer and food are fine with life. Knowing this guy for 9 years, I'll trust my observations over your internet prescription.

They actually wanted a loose organization of strong States. People seeking power wanted the stronger federal govt..... The civil war AND the revolutionary war were both about the right of States vs a Super-powerful central govt. A battle that had be fought even before the country was a country and a great example was the arguments between Hamilton and Jackson. Hamilton won by using banking to unite all the Colonies. His banking program created a National banking system and Federal currency. The 13 States were in a bad economic situation and a Federal banking system allowed the States to write off that debt to the Federal system. Fact is the South left for the same base reasons that the Colonists fought for their freedom from England... A powerful central govt making rules that hurt them. It is a shame that people just assume it was about slavery. The true issues are deep and still valid today and seen today in issues like California's medical marijuana cases.

The funny thing is that they have all the laws YOU WANT, and this still happened. So much for proving your proposed solutions actually work.
-
No the main reason is because a guy wanted to kill others. And that is a good question.
-
The fact that YOU seem obsessed with *US politics* makes me question if YOU know there are places outside the US.

2. ....... yeah......not my type. So sorry, you will have to look elsewhere for satisfaction.

What is the cost to keep up a few of those over 100 land bases? http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/world/2011-03/12/c_13773896.htm Also: The carriers have also provided aid after natural disasters; in 2005, Lincoln supported Operation Unified Assistance in Indonesia after the December 2004 tsunami, and Truman provided aid after Hurricane Katrina later in 2005. The Reagan Carrier Strike Group performed humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations in the Philippines in June 2008 after Typhoon Fengshen, which killed hundreds from the central island regions and the main island of Luzon. In January 2010 Vinson operated off Haiti, providing aid and drinking water to earthquake survivors as part of the US led Operation Unified Response, alongside other major warships and hospital ship Comfort. As I said, they are already being used as bases.

The proof is for all to see. I guess I should just offer to take you out next time I am in your area... you seem very attracted to me. Two problems: 1. I am happily married. 2. ....... yeah......not my type. So sorry, you will have to look elsewhere for satisfaction.

Or auto correct bit me in the ass and I didn't bother to proofread. Now any comment on the CONTENT?

I am glad you have come out and said you are fine with allowing the mentally unstable to be pilots. I'm fairly certain the vast majority of the population would call that an extremist view. Thanks for clarifying your position. Fact is no one has said to let a mentally *unstable* person own a gun. Some have said that it might be a bit early to forever remove a right from an 8 year old without future data to see if he overcomes the issues.

Yes. So is "he'll be fine, don't worry about it." -- BillV
-
But you are fine with a pilot taking medication the rest of his life? So you would be fine with the FAA not allowing SSRI's? A depressed pilot could kill FAR more than any one lunatic with a firearm. The highest "rampage killer" killed 57 people in South Korea. Heck, a Saab 340B holds 40 people and that is FAR more than the average "lunatic with a gun".

This. I have a buddy that does AMAZING renovation work. I have seen him turn a house into a palace. His wood working skills are incredible, his stucco work amazing. He has great skills... what he does not have is a work ethic. He works hard till he has enough money to buy food, smokes, and beer. And then quits showing up for work and gets fired. He currently lives in another buddies rental house. Has not paid rent in 5 mths. But he always has beer, smokes, and food. I wanted to hire him to do some work at my place, but told him that the first part of his pay was going to his back rent. He said no thanks. Shame really. Good guy most of the time.

Read up on the idea of a mobile offshore base (MOB). And we already send carriers into places to act as bases, and have for 50+ years.

It can be a big deal and be ranked as the worst on a scale.... And still only be 10% of another example. So to claim that it is a big deal... would be true. To claim that it is ranked the same as Chernobyl ... would be true To claim it is not as bad as Chernobyl... is also true.
-
Yes, I can't help but prove you to be wrong.

Some of the posters have given me pause to think. Some have just spouted crap. There seems to be more BS than signal, but sometimes the signal is pretty good. Wendy posts some very good stuff. Andy flips between taking a piss and giving REALLY good info. BillV can give good info. I have changed my position a bit on a few things when logical debate has argued me into a corner... I think Wendy might have been one of the ones that got me.... But even the good debates have made me think about my position more. So yes, I think that if the debates are fact and not emotion based they can do some good.

all about the money.
