  3. Comparison: England - 89% increase in 10 years, while most gun ownership was banned. U.S. - 428% drop in gun crime, while guns remained legal. And with that, do you still believe that gun ownership causes gun crime? Do you still believe that banning guns is an effective crime fighting measure? Thanks for helping me make my point. Furthermore, if you want to ignore an 89% increase in gun crime in England, under the idea that since America is worse, it's therefore nothing important to worry about, then you are making a really bad mistake. An 89% increase is quite significant, and should be taken seriously, regardless of what may be happening somewhere else in the world. How did we get from beer glasses to gun crime? A beer glass is no match for a .45. yeh percentages are great for hiding inconvenient truths aren't they John its a wonderful world where you seem to think that 1760 firearm incidents are worse than the 343,550 (non fatal) in the USA. I am glad you think that's better, may explain the poor state of the world economies with that type of thinking . your argument on gun control for me is quite frankly flawed mate as its unlikely that in my lifetime I will ever see any gun crime. Guns are a tool that are not needed by the general public here as we have no fear of Gun attack in our lives. Apples and oranges you seem to live in a society ruled by the Gun so you have that problem not us you failed to see passed your irrational hatred of this country to see that's to us Drink related crime is not acceptable anymore so for your Emergency centres deal with a lot more gun crime than ours and we have a lot more problems with drink related assaults. O yeh your .45 does you bugger all good when a random drunk glasses you and cut a major artery....................would it bet you wish that drunk had a plastic pint glass now. 5. News from England:Culture of violence: Gun crime goes up by 89% in a decade Gun crime has almost doubled since Labour came to power as a culture of extreme gang violence has taken hold. The latest Government figures show that the total number of firearm offences in England and Wales has increased from 5,209 in 1998/99 to 9,865 last year - a rise of 89 per cent. In some parts of the country, the number of offences has increased more than five-fold. In eighteen police areas, gun crime at least doubled. The number of people injured or killed by guns has increased from 864 in 1998/99 to a provisional figure of 1,760 in 2008/09, an increase of 104 per cent... Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1223193/Culture-violence-Gun-crime-goes-89-decade.html?ITO=1490 you like stats John how about U.S department of Justice stats kind of puts your figures in the shade mate. Still doesn't really excuse your flippant idiotic remarks About glassing victims which is the reason for the story in the first place does it ?. Quite frankly it makes you look a ass mate
  6. probably at the same pool party as bin ladden, Michael Jackson, elvis Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun
  7. Prevention is better than having to deal with the after math. Ask any of the A&E (trauma/emergancy staff ) what a weekend is like and what they have to deal with. Did you look at the pictures or ever seen some one glassed John !, have you. Do you know what kind of scar that can leave and i don't mean just physical. Exactly! Thanks for echoing my own sentiments. I'm with you on this one, by gosh. Those in emergency rooms who see the gory results of glassings with glass glasses ought to be allowed to tell the rest of England what they should be allowed to drink out of. Paper cups would make it impossible for drunken thugs to hurt someone with their drinking utensils. It would put a quick end to this scourge of "glassings", and the government ought to mandate it. If they'll just man-up and do this simple thing for the greater good of England, then your emergency room glassing victims will be replaced by yobs with simple paper cuts - a vast improvement, I must say. I'm glad you're in agreement with me on this. You can do it for William Wallace too. well i guess we should all be thankfull its not full of self inflicted or otherwise Gunshot victims getting in the way of the Glass victims, right John ! O yeh Mel Gibson/wullie wallace is my hero shows how little outside hollywood you know Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun
  8. Okay, that does it. Government-mandated paper cups only! Anyone caught drinking their beer out of a glass in public will be arrested on the spot! We can't afford to just wait until something happens to arrest a violent person - then it's too late. We should take preemptive action. We must presume that ANYONE is capable of violence, and therefore treat everyone as a potential felonious attacker. Let's face it - we cannot be trusted with glasses. We must discard them in favor of paper cups. Do it for England. Do it for the Queen. Prevention is better than having to deal with the after math. Ask any of the A&E (trauma/emergancy staff ) what a weekend is like and what they have to deal with. Did you look at the pictures or ever seen some one glassed John !, have you. Do you know what kind of scar that can leave and i don't mean just physical ?. you really need to see past your anti British prejudice Mate. it was plastic cups not paper and think you will find it was UK wide not just England
  9. been watch this thread and it all very well but .............any of you ever been glassed ? or seen someone get glassed. If you did then you might understand the trauma these people can and do go through. just so you can see the effects http://blogs.smh.com.au/lifestyle/allmenareliars/glassing.jpg http://m.gmgrd.co.uk/res/450.$plit/C_71_article_1097984_image_list_image_list_item_0_image.jpg http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/sundaysun/apr2009/0/5/stephen-grey-439335207.jpg seen plastic beer pint glasses used at a few festivals and quite frankly never noticed anyone jumping up and down about, didn't impair anyone enjoying themselves. So is using a plastic beer cup prefeable to the above damn right it is ! Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun
  10. Not so (apparently). The EU law is confusing since it prohibited "price-fixing" of tobacco by Governments. Another EU law says it IS legal to set a minimum product price as part of a wider-ranging health program. As Kelpdiver said, the real target is our equivalent of your two-buck-chuck; The cheap chemical cider, M&D20/20, Buckfast, etc... And to a lesser extent the cheap supermarket stuff. The MUP discussed (40-50p/unit) won't affect pube which already charge 1bout £1.30/unit. Nor will it effect "decent" brands which charge about 60-80p/unit. It may "slightly impact supermarket own brand which charge 40-50p/unit. What (it is argued) MUP will most impact is heavy drinkers on low income, by effectively pricing the cheapest of alcohol out of the market. Hence the claimed social benefits. I'm not au-fait with current US alcohol products & prices so it's quite hard to give exact parallels. Maybe someone who's recently been across the pond can help? Mike. interesting, you don't see so many kids drinking Bucky( to expensive )for most. So much now they have moved onto something else and that's all they will do. Its is a problem all you have to do is to go to any major city centre on a weekend to find out how bad. No point in putting our heads in the sand hoping it will go away something has to be done ! Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun
  11. got to agree as it being a non story i don't see what the problem is ?. More surprised that someone was aloud to photograph them due to the amount of hassle photographers are getting with the section 44 law. There have been armed police officers in every British police force area for a long time get over it. Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun
  12. Try telling that to the other 499 workers in my place and me. When the company decided to close our plant down and move our equipment out to Ireland and New York. Would have been different if we where making a loss but just greed on the part of the private equity firm who bought us last year. I hope it back fires on them, it will as to me the Irish plant is top heavy with people and will go through what we did over the last 3 years downsize a workforce due to new technology. Only thing is no one has told them yet and its doubtful they will see it coming ! o yeh and we are such professionals even in the 90 days notice period we are still breaking company production targets and achieving the highest quality standards in the company what a way to repay a loyal workforce Billy-Sonic Haggis Flickr-Fun

  24. some things are strange that stick in your head and the association with Childhood memories. For me its the smell of Road bitchumen (road tar freshly) Always takes me back to a hot summer in one place chasing the rag and boneman to get little things off for handing over junk or swinging from the back of the coal lorry as they slowly crept along making deliveries to all the houses in the street
