We usually stay however long just depending on how we feel, and how exhausted muscles are from the degree of difficulty of the climb up, but this season it's been a bit of a rush to get back down to avoid the seemingly everyday afternoon storms (though your ride would still be different/probably harder than the climbs, and I haven't done nearly as much biking this Summer as in Summers past). Different people are definitely affected in different ways depending on body type, and I am rarely the same as what I meet on the climbs - I'm 6'1/2" weigh about 220# and 16% body fat, and I have to keep up on potassium (carrot juice) or I'm cramping, in addition to a little extra salt for all the water I'm drinking. well i am a 5' 7" shorty and never suffered cramps or anything like that only Knee problems (old age )coming down hill. Done 12-24 hour hill walks navigating in the dark before in decent weather. Had my share of horizontal wet stuff as well . Not the fittest person to look at but what i do have is stamina and the ability to shutdown and just do what needs doing. our last hill 2 weeks earlier mountain rescue had to airlift a guy off we already new it was a one way up 2 way down walk why this local decided to fall and break a leg on the rock side is beyond me only a 2,2k hill and was fun as we had done the opposite one ages ago. they are both not far fro ma larger training hill i use to keep my fitness up

That's actually Dan Watson. Notice the contrast in that pic with the Maroon Creek Valley in the background and the one with Capitol and Snowmass in back, which is just over the Maroon Peaks ridgeline. I like crampons - they always mean you're doing something fun, and some small part of me likes to pretend I'm badass Gene Simmons when I have them on. nice video mate looks like you had fun and well good weather always helps

The peeing wilderness thread Just made me think I have been Hillwalking and occasional climbing for 31 years Jesus where does time go when your having fun. Nothing like open wilderness and not a sole for about 20 miles unless its a crofter (small farmer). I remember the first organized trip i went on with teachers at school One of the group developed toothache it was 6-8 hours walk to the nearest road and a car lift to the nearest dentist 40 miles away and we sat in the remoteness waiting on the guy coming back. The clown who wanted to wear his own boots (unbroken in) after a day his feet where blistered and his pack had to be split down between the rest of us we where not happy. Since that time i have spent a lot of time in the hills mostly by myself or having to lead others. As leader reading maps using a compass in hill fog or low cloud depending on how high the mountain was you decided. To having to take control of a group or two when it became obvious the person in charge hadn't done their home work leading them out safely. Dropping back to keep and encourage the slowest person and keep their flagging spirits up. Never needed to call out Mountain rescue people and hope i never do. Have informed the mountain rescue or rangers when i have had to give advice to people either in a not equipped or over burdened for what they had planned, making sure they where aware of the people i have met. One of the funniest moments That maid me laugh i had just climbed up a steep gorge and was on my way back when i bumped into 2 mountain rangers taking their search and rescue Dog for training. One asked "do you now where you are going" I just replied "No do you" then burst out laughing # I only have my teachers to thank for the eye opening sights and experiences i have had. Seen disspare, fear and exhaustion in others, with some really surprises from people who you would not suspect of being able to step up to the plate and do what needs doing in difficult situations. Sadly i haven't photographed them all as that fun came later but will close by putting in some of the places i have been. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/1314803664/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/1314812808/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/2595507100/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/2793334261/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/2841874829/ A friend http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/2842011447/ sunrise early up hear http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/2841873731/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3099776277/ A end of a day http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3382896532/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3385276154/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3385285478/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3384496755/ hope you enjoy just be careful do your homework and plan for your trip . Don't now about the states but in the UK mountain rescue are volunteers who put their lives at risk to save others and i get pissed when i see people. Who are not dressed properly properly equipped who venture out to the mountains where the weather here changes on a heart, beat be safe and enjoy

Funnily enough something i ain't done for some time and yeh well unless on more than a day walk use your common sense and wilderness skill. ! In Scotland there are places dotted about the place Called bothies some have toilets attached to these shelters, some don't have. Stayed in a few and its from bare to but dry to, luxury and maintained by volunteers of http://www.mountainbothies.org.uk/ here is Carrour in the Lairag Ghru of the Cairngorms mountains outside http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3586127255/in/set-72157619024736373 http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3586156327/ inside http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3586194717/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/9483441@N07/3586221195/ My friend is one of the member's of the Association and they go out and maintain the places, usually having to carry the stuff in by hand. Which can be a long walk, if they are unlucky with the really remote ones. They may get help from the military to take heavy stuff like roofing carried in by helicopter

Don't say things like that, it is a very serious injury. I'm nine weeks out since my break and I'm still far from being able to completely take care of myself. Considering the pain level and the length of recovery, it's serious. I didn't have surgery so what I've experienced is going to be different than what you will experience, but mine hurt like hell for the first two or three weeks and then the pain started to ease up. My cast was halfway up my thigh until a couple weeks ago, which limited my mobility big time. It's way better now that the cast only goes to my knee. The leg still swells up if I'm up for very long, and it hurts if I put too much weight on it for too long. No good advice on the depression. Not being able to do what I want/need to do has been the hardest thing to deal with for me. I've found the end of the internet, read every book in the house, played video games until my hands cramp, learned to crochet... and I'm still bored out of my mind for most of the day... stop it your getting me depressed now its been 12 weeks for me. Hopeful on Monday i see the Orthopaedic surgeons, with hope they say time for the 4 stainless steel pins in my right foot come out. Then its a case of being booked in for the over night stay and op

I take my Camera's to various places always on a hillwalking or at events and yes the country i live in is wet . So i usually use a plastic bag/Bags from the local supermarket to keep my body and lens dry cheap and cheerful but it works and you can bin it does not take up much room or weight and can be disposed of when you return home, just remember to use a dry sack in your Rucksack just in case you get horizontal like we do
