I am curious when we, as Wingsuiters, and the organizers will grow up and mature. There's been many events over the last few years where were never truly 'got' what was set out to do. Yes, we have come close, but something or someone was still off with the photo's that we had for certain points of time. So instead of saying and being proud for what we did, we call it a 'successful formation' even though it wasn't. Sure it may have been a successful event, a learning experience, and an achievement, but it they weren't ever 'successful formations.' What's wrong with still feeling a sense of accomplishment for something that has never been tried before, yet not fully achieving the goal? I think the words and descriptions of the end result have to be better chosen in the future or it will look like we are still making all our own rules after initially set some other rules that we didn't meet. In the end, we won't be seen as serious until this is done.. and it has to be as a community. Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

How many ws jumps before teaching others to fly?
Buried replied to SuperGirl's topic in Wing Suit Flying
sure one needs to know how to fly and hit upon some basic points during a FFC, but would you say there is a difference between an teaching and coaching [newer jumpers]? I'd say so. In general i'd say less jump numbers are needed to train a new jumper compared to someone who is coaching by furthering an existing jumpers skills. People still seek out FF coaches and pay the $ since it's usually worth it though now they just spend it in the tunnel. .. but then again this is also skydiving so who says there are rules anyhow? Hey All, I am just trying to get some exposure out there since I and I'm sure others weren't made aware of the status of where the workgroup was with things until recently and wanted to participate. There' also been some through provoking posts made on the IPC forum to maybe spark some ideas. The url for where you can post was in the locked & stickied thread was incorrect for some time. It has now been updated or can be found at the bottom of this post. For whomever is interested, the IPC workgroup is now brainstorming and collecting thoughts about how to define and describe no-contact 2d wingsuit formation rules. If you have something to add, be it your own opinion as to what those should or shouldn't be, feel free post on their message board or post here. Please don't regurgitate what others have said. They will be looking at all things said and will formulate how they would like to proceed in the long term. If you more comfortable not posting, you can email the group directly, but they'd probably ask to post whatever you sent them - Jacqui Bruwer, jacqui@projectlink.co.za Larry Bagley, lbagley@uspa.org Ronald Overdijk, ronald@knvvl.nl below is a few things they are currently looking at Defining the Parameters Two dimensional Formation designs will be two-dimensional for this record category. How can/should we limit vertical deviation, and should we require evidence of flatness for judging (i.e. a side camera angle)? 2. Slot Definition A slot is a target in the air for each flyer in the formation (some examples: a single point on the head, a shape such as a circle, box, or any other shape around the entire body). How should the rules define slot? 3. Margin of Error Margin of error is a standard for how far a flyer is allowed to deviate from his/her slot (however defined) to still be considered “in” the formation. How should the rules define Margin of Error? 4. Flight Angle Based on the slot position, Flight Angle is the angle at which the flyer is located relative to the next flyer. To which degree, if at all, will we limit the relative angles at which slots within a formation can be flown? 5. Short Range and Long Range Order Depending on the method used, flyers can be judged on their relative position on an individual basis (short range order), or the formation can be judged as a whole by its shape and form (long range order), or both. How should the rules address this? 6. Glide Ratio/Flight Performance Should there be a minimum required glide ratio or overall flight performance of the formation? How would that be measured? 7. other? - Add your own. http://www.fai.org/parachuting/node/2181 Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

Oddly enough I saw this at a national park this past weekend. Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

there too many are out there who want to 'up size' quickly. In reality, it's not a good choice since it only hurts them in the long term. They haven't learned or are just starting to learn basic stills and advanced maneuvers. Many times the larger suit is actually a hinderance in learning since it requires them to fly in a different fall rate window that today's avg flocks are going to get the correct performance out of the suit. not pointed at you but "it's not the suit, you just suck" is a good rule of thumb Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

It was a short weekend, but fun for sure. Next time I'll need to allow more than 60 hrs there. I got some great video of purple from the two way jumper him and I did before holes filled. Can't wait to see the finish video Too bad the larger record weathered out. I guess it wasn't our priority since we were having too much fun and spreading the wingsuit love to new jumpers. i think they took up ping pong. I'm not sure who will actually be there. Not much talk about the event where I've been. How much is Hans in charge of organizing the event? Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

is Matter stealing.. i mean selling any wingsuit designs now-a-days? Probably not good to ask them anyways. How about - Nitro rigging (aka Nick) is a manufacture. He may not sell many suits, but they are available for purchase over the last 2-3 years (first through EG). How about just getting a definition from JII wings? I know they don't exist but I'm sure Jacqui can shoot an email off. That was a different suit. ..and don't you remember what I said at the BOD? I'm now a manufacture but no current models are available for sale. Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

*update* -we are working on getting a balloon for the weekend. price would be reasonable. -Demo suits will be available. -Depending on demand and availability. FJCs will be povided. If you or someone else is interested, drop me a pm since these will only happen once a day and slots will be limited. Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

All, Here's raw video from the wingsuit meeting a few weeks ago. ~35 people were in attendance. Please feel free to comment or let me know if you have any questions. I ask for all to post their thoughts and/or post on the IPC message board or send their thoughts, be in it favor or something, anything, or nothing at all, directly to the USPA IPC rep - Larry Bagley. the meeting is just about 2 hrs long. I split the video into four parts. http://vimeo.com/album/202704 password: wingsuit Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

the other is a record to clarify, Tom added the "kalland" method based on an interpretation of two images from my BOD presentation. I'll get that posted here soon. There should be two sets of dots in a simplified version of the method. one set should be uniform size and it requires a common placement as to where the flier should be (or it's the center of the outer circle). The outer circle is a scaled up circle around that dot/center point to define the tolerance allowed. The larger the outer circle the larger the tolerance. simon - yes, they and otheres are aware of this. I've talked with the guys about your worry to some extent. Since i'm pretty sure Taya (taz) is going to be following this thread, maybe she can post the pictures of the pepperell record and the one that was a record and not submitted for us all to play/compare against all methods. Things to think about - Does the image resolution product different results? It has already been identified that the current USPA judging method does. software include multiple methods, any work better than others (including the current downloadable grid) in general, does single point vs multi point judging method works best for formations? Don't worry about the application (read how to apply) as of now. method will help define delivery. there are always multiple ways to apply a method. Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

Chicagoland's Wingsuit Weekend May 29-31st Organizing by Zach Schroedel Focus will be like last year where it was more of a skills camp. Be it flocking, docking, stacking I'll tailor things to each flier. Super Twin Otter and the PAC750 XL means we'll have enough lift capacity so no long waits. Wingsuit jump price $19 jumps to 14,000' Friday-Sunday. 18,000' jumps are available all weekend long for a little more. Night jumps are also scheduled for this weekend. Maybe smaller night flocks can be put together if interest. There will be live music around the Bon-Fire with Beers from Around the World on saturday and Margaritas on Monday. http://www.skydivecsc.com/ I'm still working on other details so I'll post those once I know. PM me if you have any questions Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

so i guess it does.. i was wanting closer to 30% since it was positive that doesn't work with any of them and yes, this was the nicest old record that we agreed to work with. Besides it's barely if you look at using a higher res pic. I guess you just pointed out a fault of the system. The green grid is the new one. Measurements are 1.647 and .45ish for the spacing.
